If the list were released, it’s possible guilty individuals could escape prosecution on a claim that releasing the list had such a prejudicial affect that the individuals now cannot get a fair trial. You also have an issue with speculation due to not having evidence for the reason any particular name is on the list. Perhaps the list was made for falsely accusing someone for the purpose of extortion. Now an innocent victim is wrongly defamed and the government could be held liable for very large money claims. There are too many unanswered questions about that list. And the defendant, Ghislaine, is not trustworthy to believe given her motivations to lie in exchange for a deal. As much as we all want justice you have to be careful in the methods used to seek it.

Usually you’ll receive the money in increments and you have to document what the money is spent on. If the money is being wasted, usually the rest of the funding would be pulled. The donor usually has leverage since their lawyers provide protective clauses. The school/non profit getting the money is just happy to get the money.
I don't know if all of this is true, donations typically have no stipulation on how the money can be spent. Grants, are what allows the funder to set certain stipulations, but they aren't allowed to pull out of the deal in a grant if they just feel like it. As long as the research is being performed in a timely/cost effective manner as per lined out in the Grant, donors have no say in the data that is being produced. You could certainly try to influence the research with financial stipulations, but all that will do is lower the quality of your research as a whole and make it that much harder to publish.

I worked for a non profit that received funding from several entities. There are donations with no strings attached, but when rich and influential people get involved, they often times like to see some type of ROI or milestones met. In terms of influencing research, it all just depends who you’re giving money to. If they want to fabricate or manipulate data, they can certainly do so. It’s easy to misrepresent data, the government does it all the time lol. Publications get revoked years down the line because they missed something during the initial review.

To answer their inquiries about investors and donors giving input on research; yes, donors most often want certain findings from the research and will sometimes threaten researchers with defunding or worse if they do not publish findings consistent with the donors' pursuits and goals. It's an investment to many, not just funding research.
I've had to deal with this shit about a dozen times over the past 8 years and it's infuriating.

Usually you’ll receive the money in increments and you have to document what the money is spent on. If the money is being wasted, usually the rest of the funding would be pulled. The donor usually has leverage since their lawyers provide protective clauses. The school/non profit getting the money is just happy to get the money.
I don't know if all of this is true, donations typically have no stipulation on how the money can be spent. Grants, are what allows the funder to set certain stipulations, but they aren't allowed to pull out of the deal in a grant if they just feel like it. As long as the research is being performed in a timely/cost effective manner as per lined out in the Grant, donors have no say in the data that is being produced. You could certainly try to influence the research with financial stipulations, but all that will do is lower the quality of your research as a whole and make it that much harder to publish.

He actually didn't come from money and basically used his intelligence in a cunning way to con and charm his way into those circles all his life. He lied about his credentials like being a college graduate for example, and since everyone around him liked him they would never bother look up his "diploma" or fact check his past work history ect. The article basically said that. There were more details of course and Ghislaine was the main connect into the upper class big wig guys. She basically vouched for him and nobody batted an eye cuz of her. She definitely deserves more consequences than what she's getting. Despicable!
@@GreenMyst12 It just depends. It’s not going to be true for every situation. That’s why I said “usually” several times in my original comment. I worked for a non profit that received funding from several entities. There are donations with no strings attached, but when rich and influential people get involved, they often times like to see some type of ROI or milestones met. In terms of influencing research, it all just depends who you’re giving money to. If they want to fabricate or manipulate data, they can certainly do so. It’s easy to misrepresent data, the government does it all the time lol. Publications get revoked years down the line because they missed something during the initial review.

Since he's a scumbag I'm sure he could find a shitty researcher that would do it for him, but you can't influence what data is produced after the grant has been approved/signed.
