Here's the Google Drive link to the Martin GPC 16E IR snapshot that I created.... drive.google.com/file/d/1C9ehmo9_a7c42NQ6SE6ODlWHdV6I1zNx/view?usp=drive_link
@bcmusic71 Yes, It's a good guitar and it sounds pretty good on its own, but now it sounds much better and warmer. For classical guitar I easily found a suitable IR but for acoustic guitar I couldn't find the one I liked, until I tried yours. I only need one good IR and now I have it, thanks to you.
Demo was well done and helpful. It convinced me I don't need an IR loader. I liked the D28 most of the IRs and thought some of them were not as good as the straight Fishman.
I really love that lavalier mic....I use it for all my videos right now... Wearing it means that the guitar sound is more the sound that I'm getting from behind the sound hole...my drummer told me about a famous drummer who liked to mic his drums with lavaliers cuz that's the sound that he heard sitting behind the drums..🎶🎸🎵
Well what I use is a jjb30 passive pickup, no barn door,no quack, into an empress para eq , simple and suits me perfectly. I have had Fishmans, Baggs of every description over the years and since changing to this system have now installed jjb30 in all my acoustics and couldn't be happier. No more batteries and can leave my guitar plugged in all night long. Now if someone can come up with a wood block to fill in the barn door holes left in my guitars from onboard preamps I'd be in heaven.🤙
Interesting video. Thank you. And thank you for keeping each demo short and simple. It makes the sounds so much easier to compare. For me, the Framus and Martin IR patches sounded the most "natural" and would be the ones I would choose for that particular guitar. Just my opinion.....
You're welcome and thank you!... Yeah, I think some guys pad their video with too much playing, and it's hard to compare the sound...I really did put a lot of thought into how I wanted to present this... And yep, everyone has their own preference, and that's what it's about!
I liked your IR the best. I have a similar guitar. May consider this pedal, if I get it I would definitely be interested in trying your IR. Thanks for the video!!
I'm using a Fishman C4 pickup box, fed into a BOSS BD2 pedal, then into a Laney AC65C (65 watt) acoustic amp with chorus, paramid and reverb features. A lovely clean blues resonating tone with depth.
IRs are game changers for amplifying acoustic guitars. They still don’t sound as good as a properly mixed guitar but they have none of the hassles and limitations that come with mics. To my ears , the D28 was the clearest for your guitar. All the others appeared to suffer with minor distortion issues. Bottom line is that a lot of tone lies in your fingers as how you play also has a massive effect on the final sound. Something I’m still working on!
I bought the TC Impulse so I could keep my Quad Cortex at home when gigging. I wish the TC allowed me to blend in the IR at less than 100%. I do that with the QC, and i find that a 50/50 or 60/40 with my K&K Pure Mini equipped guitars sounds noticeably better than 100% IR. The TC is still a great pedal. Thanks for the video! You did a great job playing and explaining it all.
I’m slavering over the wonderful sound of your guitar. I must save up and treat myself one day as my cheapo guitar won’t stay in tune and has started to lift at the bridge. I enjoy all of the sounds you created and especially the Martin D28. What a lovely resonance from your guitar. 🖖👀
Thank you... I've had many acoustic guitars through the years... Finally went all in and decided to try the real deal... It is by far my favorite guitar... Plays much better than I thought a Martin would.... Very happy with it.... Best wishes! 🎵🎶🎸
@@bcmusic71 thank you. I think my favorite guitar was my 12 string Hagstrom back in 1972. I was paying for it on a monthly credit basis until I mixed up my payment and believe it or not, I was in the Guatemalan jungle when I received mail, and one letter was for late payment and if I didn’t pay in 7 days the guitar would be repossessed. I was in the jungle 😵💫 for 6 weeks and couldn’t respond. My mother, bless her, handed the guitar over innocently and that was that! Boo hoo, I played that guitar in Hong Kong, Saudi Arabia and of course in home territory. Such is life I guess. Onward and upward 😂. 🖖👀
I like IRs for live performance through a PA. I use a Hotone Binary Cab for my pedal. I strap a battery to it to power it so that I can use it easily at an open mic. I much prefer it to the piezo pickup sound. 👍👍 Thank you for the demo. Of course a mic is best for recording, but for live performances the IRs are much more consistent without the feedback.
Thanks for the video. I’ve been looking for something like this and I think I’ll buy one asap. I’m playing more acoustic guitar and less keys on my gigs lately.
...which means it's pretty authentic, because recording my D28 always involves a pretty aggressive bass cut in a very narrow Q where it just goes crazy with added volume.
Hi, I also have this pedal, but in my opinion the Bodyrez in the tc-helicon "play acoustic" sounds more natural than all the Ir's I used. Thanks for your video. Btw, my guitar is a Lakewood m-18 with an LR Baggs stage pro.
What settings do you use on the TC Play Acoustic ? I have one but I feel it’s sounds very bright and unauthentic. I also own the stand alone Body Rez too, so looking to change up the pedal board do something that makes the guitar sound more mic’d
@@micktmusic Hi Mick, i use the "flat" setting with full bodyrez (10) and a bit eq-ing like reducing the mids and bass a little bit. Alternate "only compression" could also be a solution. At the end it depends on your taste and your guitar, pickup!!!!A lot of guitarists love the k&k pure mini, others the LR-Baggs Anthem and so on! I'm definitely not an expert but trust my ears :-) And maybe one day I'll give the ir-loader another try :-)Have fun and thanks again to Barry! Greetings from Germany, Thomas😀
Superb demo. I appreciate your dedication. Only thing I'm hearing from the TC is possibly a little too much bass. I'd use the built in EQ to brighten things up a little.
The Martin D28 IR sounded the best to my ears with strumming and finger picking. I was really surprised that the Takamine IR sounded so dull ... where those guitars usually have a nice sparkle to them.
I'm surprised by that too... Maybe just doesn't like my guitar?.... It's just factory sound with no post eq.... Not sure why it sounds like that...midrange seems sucked out...🎶🎵🎸
Your question I do consider most important is that one you make in the final thoughts. "Can you achieve all these differnt sounds with an eq pedal?" Great Answ: MAYBE!. Mine would be: Nobody never knows. BUT, If you use a great instrument, no other gadget is needed. Thank you.
Thank you .. I agree, a quality instrument goes a long way in making life easier!!...I consider the pedal just another tool in the tool box when needed..... Thanks for watching and your comment 🙂🎵🎶🎸
Very nice test and video. I liked the guitar pick up (Fishman) sound and D28 sound and the other IR models did not appeal to me. I use K&K Mini mostly and run it through a pre amp before it goes through the PA system. Not that this is the best system. My JJB 330 and K&K sound great through my Fishman Loudbox Artist amp. I’m wondering how the K&K would do through the IR….
I have a Cort A6 Gold Natural with a Fishman pup in it. Sound is ok I guess. Nothing special. I like all of the IR examples except the Takamine..it sounded muted and dull. I had no idea what IR was until I watched your video, interesting stuff! And your Martin sounds excellent!. Cheers.
Thank you...I love my Martin!... Not sure why the Takamine sounds like that...I agree .. Just meant for a different guitar I guess?.... Best wishes 🎶🎵🎸
IR is great. I never liked Fishman pickups. I bought rack gear and learned how to use it, specifically to fix that harsh quacky sound. I play a Martin OM 28 with a KnK passive pickup system now. No battery required. No hole in my nice guitar, and it sounds so much better. I use an original 20 yr old Yamaha AG Stomp, because it is still better. It has everything and a kitchen sink. I run that into a Roland AC60, and export a plug from the sub output in the back of the Roland into a small Ampeg keyboard/bass amp. The Roland divides the frequencies to the appropriate cabinet. I can run my electric guitar modeler, a drum machine, my vocals, acoustic guitar, a real or simulated bass guitar, or keyboard all through one small rig, at the same time. There are few pedals, few connections, easy to transport. I can plug into a pa and use my rig as a monitor. I could also mic those cabinets. Fishman amps are also unnatural sounding, especially the vocal channel, and you can't connect to a small bass amp and double the size of your sound.
The microphone was the best quality sound. The balance, depth and nuances are somewhat lost with the IRs. I do think your own version was the best and closest to the natural, mic'd sound. Great video content.
Thank you for your thoughtful comment...I agree the mic sounds great... Always a struggle to find that sound in a live setting right?... That's why I'm happy with the pedal I guess... Best wishes 🎶🎵🎸
How did you create the IR? Because if you would play (and tap) your guitar from lowest to highest and use that piezo recording as your input sweep, and then convolve it into what your mojave mic picked up (you can use voxengo deconvolver for this) it would sound much more convincing. Even better if you do it 2 times with differend mic positions and pan them left/right. Can even use a subtle autopanner to give it a little bit of simulated movement because an IR sounds very static, it's a snapshot after all
that sounds like a great way to get a great sound!...I appreciate that....I definitely do all that.... I basically did what this video did for my IR.. ua-cam.com/video/OgmL5y4LMc8/v-deo.htmlsi=SgKWsFInYSBLew4A ...best wishes and thanks for your comment....
These sounded a lot better than the Tonedexter demos I’ve seen. The thing I don’t understand is why more pros don’t use these. I’ve been to concerts with top name players and had a hard time getting over their piezo quack.
That's a good question... Not really sure..I guess it depends on what genre you're talking..I think in a rock or country setting, the sound guy eq's the guitar to be bright and chimey, kind of like a drummer high that... But I know what you mean... Someone might have a better answer!
Based on the lavalier mic, I'd say the Framus 57 IR sounds the most like your guitar. It sounds like mahogany, whereas the Martin D28 IR has a more scooped mid to mimic rosewood. I don't mean anything negative by saying this, but I feel that the IR you created sounds much more pickup-y than the Framus, Martin and Takamine IRs, which sounded closer to microphones.
Great ears man!... Yeah, I went back and relistened...I totally hear that....no negativity taken at all... Just wanted to relisten!.... Thanks and best wishes🎶🎵🎸....yeah, been using the lavalier lately and I'm really happy with it...
Interesting. I play a Taylor these days (through the PA) and my bandmate plays a McPherson. His guitar sounds light years better than mine. I was considering moving up but maybe with enough tweaking, maybe an IR could save my wallet… Thanks for the food for thought. 👍
Wanted to thank you for doing this video. It was very helpful. Have to agree with you on your favs. I like the D28 IR. I think I like the Fishman without IR too. Just my opinion, seems to need some granular EQ too to remove the piezo sound and maybe take the sound up a notch. Worship Tutorials sell some fantastic sounding studio tweaked IR files. See UA-cam.
You're welcome!.. And thank you for the nice comment and recommendation...I think it's really cool we have the same guitar 🎸....i totally agree about the piezo too... Sounds good, with just a little EQ tweak....I always thought of a Martin as just a bluegrass guitar, but I love it so much for my acoustic shows... Plays really nice too ... I'll check out the Worship Tutorials... Best wishes..🎶🎵...
@@bcmusic71 You have to dig through their site to find them. They vary from free to $14 for a set of them. Sound samples on UA-cam sound fantastic but I have no personal experience with them.
Fishman sounded more harmonically rich. Years ago I tried the BAGGS VoiceTone pedal, a premium IR unit. Sold it months later. Intriguing but plagued with bassy artifacts overall. Not a fan of acoustic IR’s. What I’ve found creates more authentic tone is JHS ColourBox v2 DI.
i think the IRs should be made with EQ to avoid mud buildup. NUX OPTIMA AIR has line in from preamp and graphic editing program .My next step is Melda plugin through DAW.
Loved the video! What an excellent tool and with such a beautiful result! I can look it up, but if you have time, do you know if tc electronic makes an equivalent IR Loader Pedal but for classical guitars (nylon strings)? I'm sure one could just build their own effect, but having preloaded default effects is super appealing. Thanks!
Thank you!... What a great question...i don't really know off hand...I know with this one, you could create one and load it to this, but there's got to be already made ir's out there that you could download and save to this pedal.... Please let me know what you find so we can share to this community! 🎵🎶🎸
Hi Barry, great demonstration! I have the same Martin Guitar and love it. I will consider the TC impulse. Wondering if you have any experience with the baggs voiceprint?
Yeah, great guitar....I haven't tried the Baggs, but I just looked it up... Looks pretty convenient too and Baggs is a well respected brand... Best wishes 🎵🎶🎸
I'm curious about that as well... But this pedal does make it quick and easy, and has a lot of amp/speaker ir's as well ... And very affordable.... But I get what you're saying too....🤘🎵🎶🎸
You're welcome!... Thank you!... It really is cool...ua-cam.com/video/OgmL5y4LMc8/v-deo.html this is the video I learned from to make my own... I made it a year ago, so I would need to watch again to remember how to do it! 😁.... Best wishes🎸🎶🎵
The Fishman sounds awful. That's what Im trying to get rid of, too jangley. The Martin patches sound great. I have a takimine. But that one was ok. Have you ever heard of the sonicake factory acoustic preamp pedal i was wondering your opinions on it.
I hadn't heard of it, but I looked it up on Amazon... Looks pretty cool, especially with notch filters so you can really get rid of unwanted frequencies...but Amazon did warn that it's a frequently returned item... But the reviews seemed pretty good... Maybe just people not knowing what it was, expecting something else... Let me know your thoughts if you get one... I'm curious...🎶🎵🎸
I never understood using a blend with irs. It’s not like other effects. For example why would I want to blend a dry amp head with the sound of a speaker cabinet. That’s not how we listen to them normally. Same applies to an acoustic. The ir simulates the “mic in a room” sound. Why would I want to blend the piezo sound with that? That’s not what I do when I record.
Does this pedal completely digitise the guitar signal, then alter it before converting it back to analogue? It would be interesting to hear how it sounds at a live show. Also, I really dislike piezo quack and prefer magnetic sound hole pickups for my acoustic guitars, but I'm always looking for that "better" sound. How would this pedal work with a magnetic pickup?
I'm honestly not sure on the technical side.. Sorry...I do use it for my solo/duo shows, and I think it pretty much sounds like the examples in the video...I believe the IR's that are built in are meant to be paired with a piezo....I haven't tried it with a magnetic pickup, but I don't think it would be as good, unless you find some IR's specific to a magnetic pickup... I think most reputable music sites and Amazon have a good return policy, and the pedal honestly is not that much, which is why I originally went with it... Best wishes...🎶🎸
Neither the Fishman pickup *nor* the IR sounds anywhere NEAR AS good as either of the microphones! I’ve done dozens of shows over the past 20 years with a Martin D-18 and an instrument mic … I’ve *never* experienced a feedback issue. This device looks to me like a solution in search of a problem.
Been playing since 1975. I have gone through a bunch of guitars over the decades, from Guild to Cortez to Yamaha to Gibson to Epiphone to Martin. I currently play the 2000 Martin DCME my wife bought me new for my birthday in 2000. As for the IR pedal, most of the mixes weren't great to my ear (via Jabra noise cancelling headset). The built-in Fishman pickup is great; the most appealing IR setting was the Martin D28 since it seemed to capture the rich tones - both low and high. The other settings seemed like they compromised the natural sound of your Martin. The Takamine setting was probably the worst since it sounded like you stuffed a pillow in the sound hole. It seemed to destroy all of the acoustic dynamics. A good Martin -- yours is gorgeous -- doesn't really need much help to adjust its sound. I have used many pedals on my Martin over the years and I consistently come back to a straight feed from the built-in pickup/preamp.
😁 thank you... Cool you play a Martin too!...I do love mine... And I agree, the internal pickup sounds great.... Not sure why the Takamine sounds so muffled....I didn't alter it, promise 😂.... Thanks for your great response 🎶🎵🎸 this Martin has an internal circuit in it too where when you tap on the body, it picks it up, and you can control how much..I really like that too, for solo stuff...
I don’t think this is working as intended. I use an IR on my Hx stomp and the IR sounds considerably better. You may want to consider checking your settings.
I didn’t like any of the samples Only acoustic pick up I use that gives a faithful sound through PA or amp is the Seymour Duncan woody SA3HC. I have the expensive LR Baggs mic system in one of my guitars and it does not come close the the woody
I don’t think IR’s are the way to at all. I have purchased several quality ones in the past and wasn’t impressed by the results. Just put a great system in like a LR Baggs HiFI, the latest HiFi Duet or Anthem SL.

that sounds like a great way to get a great sound!...I appreciate that....I definitely do all that.... I basically did what this video did for my IR.. ua-cam.com/video/OgmL5y4LMc8/v-deo.htmlsi=SgKWsFInYSBLew4A ...best wishes and thanks for your comment....
I like the sound of TC Blend
I thought they did a good job with that one... Sounds really good...🎵🎶🎸.... I've used that one at gigs before...
To my ears the most natural acoustic guitar amplified sound comes from the K&K Pure Mini run through their XLR pre-amp box. Just my take.
Thank you...I think many would agree with you...I bet that sounds good too!...🎵🎶🎸
These sounded a lot better than the Tonedexter demos I’ve seen.
@@bcmusic71 what lavalier mic is that? It sounds so natural and good, and as a sound engineer I could imagine several great uses for it.
@@roymeyer6837 amzn.to/48hrKbk saw another UA-camr use it and I thought it sounded great too ... And for the price, you can't beat it IMO...
Very interesting but I prefer the sound recorded with the microphone it sounded more realistic to me. I am listening with good headphones.
I hear ya... Maybe not always easiest or appropriate in a live set up, but sounds best for recording..
Interesting. I play a Taylor these days (through the PA) and my bandmate plays a McPherson. His guitar sounds light years better than mine. I was considering moving up but maybe with enough tweaking, maybe an IR could save my wallet… Thanks for the food for thought. 👍
Taylors are beautiful guitars... Yeah, I would say try some tweeking first... Glad to provide some inspiration! 🙂🎶🎵🎸
Makes me want to buy a Martin D28
I understand! 😁🎸🎵🎶
Interesting!
Thanks for checking it out🙂🎵🎸🎶✌️
Wanted to thank you for doing this video.
Thank you for that..I hear what you're saying🙂🎶🎵🎸 best wishes
i think the IRs should be made with EQ to avoid mud buildup. NUX OPTIMA AIR has line in from preamp and graphic editing program .My next step is Melda plugin through DAW.
Yeah, a little eq'ing depending on what you're running it to works well... Best wishes 🎵🎶🎸
I have a Traveler MKIII Escape. So a piezo on a slab of wood. Would this pedal let it sound more like a real acoustic?
Wow... That's a great question...I would probably call Sweetwater and ask them.... I'm gonna guess yes, but someone may have a better answer...🎵🎶🎸
WOW, what is the TC MODEL IF THE IR UNIT?
That tc model is factory in the IR pedal.... Sounds good..🎵🎸🎶
Loved the video!
@@bcmusic71 yep pretty dang pricey though. Maybe I can try both and return one. If I do, I’ll definitely load up your Martin Ir. Thanks again!
@@steveperry4243 yep, great idea!....
Seems you can do everything the IR does with a good EQ Pedal
I'm curious about that as well... But this pedal does make it quick and easy, and has a lot of amp/speaker ir's as well ... And very affordable.... But I get what you're saying too....🤘🎵🎶🎸
Thanks a lot for the video!... Now I need this pedal 🤤...
Can I ask how you generated the IR of your guitar?
You're welcome!... Thank you!... It really is cool...ua-cam.com/video/OgmL5y4LMc8/v-deo.html this is the video I learned from to make my own... I made it a year ago, so I would need to watch again to remember how to do it! 😁.... Best wishes🎸🎶🎵
@@bcmusic71 Thanks so much for sharing! Much appreciated!
Mojave condenser mic alone - Fishmann sounds poor, TC. Electronic too!
Agree
I love that condenser mic!🎤🎵🎶🎸
Agreed
I agree, because the IR is made poorly, it can be done right and can be very useful for live applications
It's a good IR but it needs more volume....let me know if you increase the volume....I like the sound.
Thank you....🎶
Wow.
🤘🎵🎶🎸
Strange that your IR sounds better than the mic, which I guess is what you used to create the IR?
You're correct.... That is the mic I used ... definitely could be placement is different, I created the IR a year previous to the video....🎶🎸🎵
The Mohave Audio MA-201 sounded best to my ears. It sounded the most realistic.
Good interesting video
Thank you!...much appreciated 🎶🎸🎵
I never understood using a blend with irs. It’s not like other effects. For example why would I want to blend a dry amp head with the sound of a speaker cabinet. That’s not how we listen to them normally. Same applies to an acoustic. The ir simulates the “mic in a room” sound. Why would I want to blend the piezo sound with that? That’s not what I do when I record.
For sure when recording, condenser mic seems best... Just options for live sound I guess....✌️🎵🎶🎸
The D-28
Very natural sounding for sure! 🎶🎵🎸
@@bcmusic71 Well, I grew up on the singer/songwriters of the early 70s (Jackson Browne, Fogelberg, James Taylor, et al) and they all played Martins.
@@michaelweiser6887 love that style of folk singer/songwriter music...I grew up on that as well...
Nice guitar!.... Yeah, the mic definitely sounds the best.... Thank you and best wishes...🎶🎵🎸
I perform over 200 gigs a year in places where using a mic is impractical and impossible. This devise would work very well for me.
thanks for video, but you didn't tell us where to get the IR pedal, please help us how to get one, OK!
Thank you for your comment... You can get one through Amazon here amzn.to/4evlu1o .....
Google is amazing for such inquiries.

You may want to consider checking your settings.
thank you for the suggestion...best wishes....
Mojave condenser mic. Best overall.
I do like that mic.... Very true sound of the guitar... Thank you 🙂🎶✌️🎸
@@bcmusic71 Yeah, it sounds rich (on my computer speaker anyhow...) and seems the best for vocal accompaniment, without overpowering the singing.
@@danherring5676 right!
Martin D28 sounded best to me on both strumming and fingerpicking
It does sound good!... Thank you 🙂🎶🎵🎸
Hamblin
That has a nice clear sound 🎶🎵🎸
I didn’t like any of the samples
Only acoustic pick up I use that gives a faithful sound through PA or amp is the Seymour Duncan woody SA3HC.
I have the expensive LR Baggs mic system in one of my guitars and it does not come close the the woody
I'll check it out.. Thank you! 🎵🎶🎸
I don’t think IR’s are the way to at all. I have purchased several quality ones in the past and wasn’t impressed by the results. Just put a great system in like a LR Baggs HiFI, the latest HiFi Duet or Anthem SL.
I get it... Thanks for the comment! ✌️🎶🎸🎵 Keep rockin'

@@im58woody that's awesome! 😁 Thank you!
To the cork sniffers in this thread, not everyone has a condenser mic
And guess what?....99% of your audience doesn't care or notice ... To me it's more what sounds good to you, and what motivates and inspires you....
Don't buy a pedal, buy a LAVA ME GUITAR instead and you will have a lot more things to play with

It does sound very clear and natural sounding, I agree...🎵🎶🎸
