Sundolphin Aruba 10 Kayak Review

- Опубліковано 7 вер 2024
- Something different for me, a Kayak! Sundolphin Aruba 10 (this is not the SS) was on sale pretty cheap at the local Tractor Supply store and a buddy was getting into kayaking and kayak fishing so it sounded like a fun way to get out and exercise. I also figured this would be a fun way to retrieve RC float planes or boats that have stalled out in the water.
My first kayak, and first time ever doing it! This is basically an unboxing and walkaround, then some of it in action on the Lake Terrell up in NW Washington.
These can also be bought at walmart, kmart, amazon, ebay, etc. Certain times of year they are under $200 out the door!
I plan to modify it for fishing, some rod holders, maybe an anchor trolley, cup holder, more storage, milk crate...
PRO:
- Durable
- AFFORDABLE!
- FUN!
- Light weight ~40lbs ish
- Stable
- Free oar
- Adjustable pedals
- Adjustable backrest
CON:
- Not much storage ( The one little cubby behind the cockpit, and its not super watertight, mine has always been dry though )
- No seat cushion*
- Seat should be farther forward to balance it a little better for bigger riders, The rear of it sits a little low in the water, but it doesn't take on water or cause any problems, just a looks thing.
* Here is a link to the inflatable cusion I have been using, $5! and works great, I inflate it about half way or so, just enough so keep you off the plastic of the seat, helps with my legs too.

All that said, this is a bargain! It was on sale for $179, and I have no regrets, its worth every penny, Id buy it again for sure. I do wish it had a seat cushion, but I got a cheap one and threw it in there, it is fine for short runs, but for long ones you may want something.
Thanks for checking it out! Ill occasionally have more vids, its so much fun!

Glad to hear!
Alana Mitchell a year later how are the holding up. Getting 2 today hopefully
Bought mine on a whim when I just went for a beer run. Carrying it and a 12 pack was a trick.
+Mike Qualls haha. I like your style
Forth of July.. drank a 12 pack then bought mine... forgot I bought it.
Badass story man
John, what a great overview you did. That will helps tons of people wondering about the sundolphin aruba. Thanks a bunch for taking the time to film it and share it! Kudos man!
Thank you! Im happy with it, I look forward to spring so I can take it out again.
I have one of these and a different kayak. By far my favorite one is the Aruba 10. I can lift it to the roof by myself. It steers well, it’s comfortable, very steady and there’s no worries about tipping over. Great kayak.
I was at a vacation home over this last summer and they had a little boat and a private pond, and I really enjoyed going out on the water and just relaxing out there, so I’m planning on getting one of these Aruba 10 models to do that on the weekends. Really excited for it. Thanks for the video, I got a good look at the kayak from this.
Im happy with it for the price!
If you cut that rear cargo compartment open, you'll need to put a separate float bladder inside it, fastened to the hull somehow, to keep it from sinking completely if it's ever capsized - that whole rear end is an airtight compartment as it comes from the factory, widening that storage compartment by cutting it open will destroy the internal float capability of the hull
SupernalOne I don't think I'll do it to mine. But I'd add some pool noodles or foam or something for sure
The "rear end" is not air tight. The seat is formed into the kayak from the top mold and leaves room on the sides to the stern of the kayak.
It’s not airtight at all. The Aruba has no bulkheads. If you flip, the entire boat will fill with water.
After 3 beers it tickled me when you said you can stick it anywhere, talking about the oars. That's the kind of reviewer I can appreciate. Leaving it all up to the consumer. Lol.
Your welcome. haha!
awesome review I'm planing on buying this kayak so that's nice
Thank you, I still have it!
Just bought one for 150 off a friend . Absolutely love it. Has plenty of room in 6'1" tall . Has plenty of room for me and 30gal wet back . Fishing pole and a few more bits of gear
Score!!
Correct those thick o-rings helps keep the water out of the cockpit.
A good investment would be getting a skirt. Helps if your caught in a storm etc..
I just bought one from Dick's sporting store for 49.99. Good luck to you fishing and exploring :) your gonna have a blast!!!
What skirt fits an Aruba Sun Dolphin?
the 'Statement of Origin' is your boats title papers for when you go to the DMV to register. All watercraft should be registered with your local DMV if you are going to operate with a motor.
Thanks
Do not ever listen to the people that dislike your video it is awesome
Appreciate it!
modded mine into a fishing yak,. more than happy with her
still enjoying mine! I have not taking it out in a bit, probably wont much until spring now as its getting cooler
photos?
Love mine! I added two 30degree PVC rod holders in the recessed areas behind the seat. I have fished hard in them for the past 3 weekends. Great investment.
Awesome! I've taken it out a bunch bass fishing. Need a better seat though, that's my only complaint.
+JohnVHRC I've heard a cheap fix is to put a rolled up towel on your back and another on the seat. Might suck if it gets wet but just something to try if you haven't already :). Great video!
I'm sold! Time to get one..
Haha, your welcome!
i just picked up one today! along with a peddle and life jacket. cant wait to hit the lakes this summer. i live in cape breton island it is lake central
Look like it's got a nice glide and looks stable
Very nice review! I need to get me one before the Summer ends.
Thanks! Im still having fun with it!
great video. I bought a kayak couple weeks ago for $150 from ollies. haven't tried it out yet. looks fun and easy, I am sure I will enjoy fishing out of it.
Thanks! Post up some vids!
Thanks John for stopping by on my video over my review of my setup. How are you liking yours and anything new you have done to it?
+DARKTOTHETOUCH not much. Just been enjoying it as it is so far. Thanks!
My buddy just gave this one to me. I have to clean it up a bit but that's no problem. Mice did minor damage to seat and thigh pads. Will also do some fishing mods too. Overall great score on a free kayak!
That’s a deal!!
You should get a sun dolphin extrusion 10’ next
makes a great affordable kayak for outfitting for fishing camping
Yeah it really is!
Statement of origin is there in case it goes through customs. They request that. It’s probably coming from oversees.
Just saw them at Wal-Mart today for under $200. Not bad quality....it'll get you out on the water, that's for sure. If you're looking to do a lot of fishing, you're really going to want a larger Fishing kayak with larger cooler compartments....but if you just wanna mess around, 10' should be fine.
Ive fished out of mine a bunch, very fun boat
I pickup up one for 85.00 at academy. Just something for me and my dog to enjoy paddling trails
Thank you so much for doing this review!
TB1996 your welcome. Thank you!
That's looks like fun!
It really is. Pretty random, but a lot of fun
Thanks for the review
Thank you!
Good review. Thanks!
Statement of origin is for watercraft registration in some states. Serial # too
Oh, good to know, thanks!
I got a 10 foot yesterday my mom 8 foot last week and were getting a blow up today
Thinking about buying this.
I still have mine, its good.
Thats going to be me, I haven't wore short pants since I was 10 years old.
I believe the weight capacity is 275lbs. If you don't mind me asking, what do you weigh? Trying to see if I can use this being 290lbs.
Im around 200
@@JohnVHLife the weight limit is 240#
I'm 200lbs, The hard part for me was getting in and out.😂
I'm thinking about getting one and strapping it to the top of my RAV4 on one of those kayak holders. Anyone know if there would be a problem with it staying? I'm worried it might be too long. Thanks!
Brandon Graham probably be fine as long as you can tie the ends down to a bumper or hitch?
I think that 3rd ring goes somewhere along the middle of the paddle bar. Did you ever figure it out?
No, just left it as is
@@JohnVHRC it’s a spare!
Is is scary on the kayak like are you scared of falling in or no you love riding it!
Its a little weird the first time, but its alot of fun! We have two kayaks now, we got one from costco, it was $100 more, but its a much better built boat.
Mine came dented in the rear. Many reviews are saying the same thing.
Bring it back.
Thx for the reply
Only 88 bucks at local Walmart, yesterday. They look the same, I believe.
+JohnVH541 - I rechecked the $88.00 price at Walmart, different kayak. Super small. My mistake, my only one. Ha! ÷)
I knew it was too good to be true, haha!
Is it comfortable with no seat
I used an inflatable seat to help.
Thanks for sharing!
You bet!
My son just bought 2.
I’m 6 foot 3 and I’m a pretty thin guy do u think I would fit in this thing
I think so
the ring things are drip guards
Oh, haha. Thanks
was it in a box? or it just came in that plastic?
Mine didnt come in a box, just in that foam wrap
how much do you weigh because I want to buy one for me and my dad and my dad is a big guy like you and I was wondering if it could hold him
+oAoekii I'm around 200. I've had more in there.
+JohnVHRC thanks
How's it track and is it stable enough
It does decent, Ive only been in two kayaks in my life, so I feel for the dollar this is a decent one.
can this kayak fit in a t5 vw transporter?
I have no idea, do you have 12' of space?
nah it was too long kayak
Check out: KayakTrainingWheels.com and we think you will agree this is the perfect add-on to make kayaking more fun than ever! This kayak is superior in many ways. It is lightweight...only 40 lb. Easy to put on the top of any size car, easy to take from car to water and very inexpensive. At the same time, these very light weight kayaks are hard to keep from capsizing and various inventions to add to the sides of the kayak are expensive, difficult to install and, most of all, make it hard to row. As a fan of these, we have devised a simple way to prevent capsizing, make it possible to stand up in the boat and makes it much easier to fish from.
+John Mauldin I'd love to review a set for my kayak
Greetings how y’all are you and how much do you weigh
Im about 210lbs and 6' tall
Soooo what you're saying is you're volunteering to be the official boat retriever?
Uhhhh, haha, I can be bribed! lol
+JohnVH541 lol
I have the same Kayak
Fun
I have this one, I like mine, I don't fish, I just paddle around.
They work great for that!
think this is ok for a 227lbs person?
It would work, but even with me in it at 200lbs, the rear sits pretty low, just something to think about.
Is this a white water kayak?
Not sure Id take it out in white water.
Absolutely not. These are made for flat water only. They don’t edge well, no secondary stability, and they can fold up around you if you get pinned in fast moving water.
That said, they are an extremely affordable way to get onto small lakes, and slow moving rivers with flat water.
Nice
I got mine for around 170 at shopko
Good buy!
That’s so pretty. where’s that at?
Thanks! Lake Terrell, Washington.
Is it sea worthy?
Not sure Id take it in big waves, but Im more of a boat guy
Back hatch is no where near waterproof. We have them at work every one comes back full of water
Yeah
I've never collected water in the back storage compartment, even in a good current.
Unboxing? Lol
Thiaguinho Oitodois haha. You got me. Unbagging?
Also I subscribed
Mine and my moms is a lifetime
Found one for 65 bucks
Wow. That’s a deal!
@@JohnVHRC its used its missing one foot peg but thats nothing
They're nice boats. We own two of them. Here's a video of some mods I did to mine. ua-cam.com/video/ou0KS3700m0/v-deo.html
Ive watched yours a couple times, good stuff!
take your hand off the mic next time
Daniel Thomasson haha. GoPro was in a waterproof case...
First time watching one of your videos...you say “Like, Comment, Subscribe” way too much....you should say it at most, 3 times in a video, not 5+ anyway, nice video. Thinking about either the Aruba 10 or Bali 10
Worthy a try. Haha.
