2024 F1 USGP Qualifying and Sprint by Peter Windsor

A hectic day at the Circuit of Americas was characterised by another stunning pole lap for McLaren-Mercedes' Lando Norris and a decisive Sprint race win for Red Bull-Honda's Max Verstappen. Norris and Verstappen line up on the front row for Sunday's Grand Prix, ahead of the two Ferraris of Carlos Sainz, who finished second in the Sprint, and Charles Leclerc (who finished P4 in the Sprint, behind Norris). It was a bad day for Mercedes, with Sir Lewis Hamilton failing to make it out of Q1 and George Russell crashing his car at high speed in the closing minutes of qualifying.
