(Full cold case investigation) The disappearance of JoAnn Matouk
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- It has been 14 years since JoAnn Matouk Romain disappeared after attending a church service in Grosse Pointe Farms. Her body was found in the Detroit River 70 days later. Police said they believed she killed herself by walking into Lake St. Clair. Her family believes she was murdered.
The information about the car being registered to daughter and they claim Joann is missing is strange.
Yes, that was strange.
I agree
It’s not strange it’s literal evidence that the LEO had inside information on who was driving that vehicle
Pretty whacked out how they would sanction a hit on an innocent 55 year old lady… over what? Being mean to Tim😂
There’s gotta be more to the story but yeah I truly believe Tim and his police force killed her then covered it up
It’s pretty obvious & straight forward
she was targeted. I know the clues, I've been targeted for at least 5 yrs. There's EVIL in high places... police, dhs, gov, etc...
It appears the murderer thought the car belonged to Joann, and the murderer knew Joann's address so they went to the house. The only one that new Joann's address was her cousin.
Definitely a cover up! That police department is dirtier than the city dump
Dirtier than the city dump...Oooh, that's a good one...lol
🤣🫡
yup it's mad obvious
I think the cousin killed her or at least had someething to do with it and the rest of the police force is covering up for him.
@@tamitribbiani7907totally
I think someone grabbed her as she was getting into her car, her purse got ripped and she hit the car alarm either by accident or on purpose to try and get help,, she was quickly over taken and the alarm shut off. Then i think she was taken somewhere else, k*lled, then put in the water. I think the scene at the church with the footprints was staged while she was still in the church. Ive heard of this case before and ive never believed she took her own life. Thank you for bringing attention to this case.
Well Said
After 70 days in water, her boots, clothes and body would not be in good shape (like they appear to be when she was found.)
@@marygoff3332 7 days thy said
And the "person" who had the keys shut off the alarm...?
19:23 19:25 😅😮😮😮😮
She’s 4’10”, wearing high heels, 250 pounds….how is she physically walking down that long sidewalk in front of the church, getting across all that road traffic, in FREEZING January, and trudging I believe they said the length of two football fields to get into the actual water that time of year? I’m a midwesterner, and I’m just not seeing her take that walk.
Lol, you say that like she was an oompaloompa who couldn't even walk a few feet 😅😅Trust me, we women are in training to walk in heels no matter what the weather or terrain.
reporter actually said: if she was the one that actually killed herself, she would’ve had to trudge the length of 2 football fields, in high heels (in the freezing cold water) in order to find a spot deep enough to be able to drown herself. which with her size, health and strength…..would’ve never happened, there’s just no way.
@@truthhurts2879I'm guessing you don't live by snow. Regardless of her size and fitness, a woman of her age would be scared to fall and break herself she got to the water.
@@truthhurts2879Not realistic in this case. Don't need to "girl power" about an alleged suicide, which didn't happen because her lungs were dry.
@@truthhurts2879she would have had to walk 2 FOOTBALL FIELDS. 2010 water levels were more shallow. Again, Quoting from video evidence from her Dr.: she complained of physical health challenges & (as of 2007) had lost 80 lbs.

Thanks for keeping this case alive.
No water in her lungs. She didn’t drown. Period. That’s a scientifically proven fact.
@elizabethwelch2976
It is folly to suggest that in a drowning case the lungs are found to be " full of water" or completely water logged. Are you familiar with a
dry drowning ? Further, in retrieving a body from water it does not mean the individual simply drowned. At autopsy/pm the findings may indicate/ reveal any number of contributing factors that resulted in death. In practice the findings can range from the obvious to downright bizarre ! ( I have signed off many ) This case is perplexing to the nth degree, it does carry the nuance of greater complexity from the off !
I lean toward foul play.
@@lynnhexler-haan3357 it is NOT a folly to assume it wasn't drowning. I just argued with someone else about dry drowning. It accounts for 10-15 percent of drownings and more prevalent in children. Good job finding a way of drowning that has nothing to do with ALOT of murder cases ruling out drowning because ta dah!!!! No water in the lungs. She was also found 30 miles from where she disappeared. If ya know ANYTHING about that area and the Detroit River, I highly doubt if it were a dry drowning she would have been found closer. And not 5 months later.
Did I just tell an ME they don't what they're talking about??? Ugggh that's gonna hurt in the mornin lol I'll leave the comment up so people can throw darts at it
Look up dry drowning
@@lindsay33333 for all intents and purposes, I highly doubt this case was dry drowning. Because a ) they make up about 10-15 percent of "drownings" and 2) it's most prevalent in children. The "dry drowning" from what I read into it has something to do with causing the vocal cords to spasm and close up.
Never heard of a case where the police start looking for a person just because their car is Parked somewhere for two hours and no one has been reported missing
Exactly. She could have left her car if she had gone out for coffee with someone after church or something and took one car, how would they know she was missing so fast
Never. You're right. They planned it & set it up & a mistake was made re: the timing. AND the car wasn't even registered in her name, but her daughters!! IF they showed up asking questions because they "found a car", when they showed up at their house they would have been asking for the DAUGHTER, if SHE was missing.
Especially when it’s not even registered to them
Clearly Tim & the police station killed her & covered it up/ tried to set it up as a suey
Only they did a horrible job😂 most dumb criminals would sell it better lmao
I know, right!? And footprints on bare asphalt/concrete? Calling for sea search before they know she's missing? Asking for her by name when the car was registered to her daughter? This sinister cousin is a detective in the police department, and it's really odd how easily investigations can be botched when a police officer is involved somehow. This must be beyond frustrating and exhausting for her children.
Yes, this stuck out to me too and seems highly suspicious to say the very least. I hope this family gets answers and, of course, justice. ❤
The simple fact her cousin has been a cop/ investigator for 30+ years and says he thinks it’s a suicide is all I need to know. Even if he is completely innocent, no one can look at this evidence and still say she took her own life.
Why wouldn’t he want to know and find out what happened even just to clear his name? The police not wanting to shout from the rooftops about this OPEN case also says a lot. Too many coincidences.
Edit to ask about her ex husband, was he mentioned or looked at? The beginning said she got divorced and moved in with her daughter. Just curious
💯💯💯
I agree. As soon as he answered that question, I knew he was guilty of something. Any decent cop would question that evidence.
@@j_3.16I agree! Especially a family member! You'd think they'd want to know the truth unless they wanted to hide the truth. Very frustrating! 😡
Good question. I don't think anything was said about him.
Someone is definitely lying and it sounds like it's at Police Department !!!! Why wasn't the FBI involved especially if body was found in Canada ?? Some much for Police Department reputation I wouldn't live there !!
Definitely the cousin. He had the connections to the corrupt people or the power to make the fake drowning happen. He threatened her. It only takes a few corrupt people to do something like this and get away with it. 100% its the cousin that works high up in law enforcement.
Well, Brother Bill was consistent friends w cuz. Tim M (who also worked in Prosecutor office btw), & brother John had been arrested by Warren PD for insufficiently funded checks.
The reason they won’t investigate is because it’s one of their own.
I wonder if that’s the truth that’s scary
My family member of mine was murdered in Indianapolis and we definitely opened an investigation because we’re not getting affiliated so it made no sense at all, still a cold case since 2020
What's your evidence? Prove it with solid evidence. If you can't, it's just a suspicion.
@@TheVeek192 It's a very reasonable suspicion.
@@TheVeek192 any police department that donates evidence is guilty of something. If you don't see that, you're in a dark place yourself...
No way she went into that water there. No police force would go looking for someone who was not reported missing ever, unless someone rang in and said someone threatening to jump etc . The alternative is that the police there are covering up something 😠
@14:00 Yes, and there was no "jumping". She would have walked those button-up heels 2 FOOTBALL FIELDS to be deep enough. After doing an athletic scramble over cement chunks & re-rod infrastructure in the dark.
Exactly. Specially for an adult. Even if family reported police would STILL wait for 24 hours before doing a full scale investigation.
Exactly. Usually, with adults, they wouldn't even look unless they have a disability or old or something like that. Or probable cause. They'll make ppl wait before they look for an adult loved one.
Fully agree something is being hidden
The woman does not look like someone who could do that, go into the water, it's just convenient that the water is there!!
Something SKETCHY with the Police Department there. THEY did that to themselves and failed their Community in the worst way IMO
I can't believe anyone would call this a suicide.
I totally agree. There’s no way 😢
Why would a woman commit suicide in this manner? Statistics say that when a woman is going to take their own life, they do it the least violent way. Walking into freezing water to drown yourself? Plus there was no water in her lungs. Lord have mercy. God rest her soul. ☦️😔🥴🥴🥴🥴
@@jawnica Nope i don't believe it either, she had no reason to kill herself.
Well true butt that's how the phyco killers or so would want people to believe let them get away with murder
Exactly she had NO WATER IN HER LUNGS. she was out there for 70 days there was frozen ice chunks on the lake bumping in to that and would have caused damage.
What about fish they would have maybe tried to nibble.

@carolseven3802 oof, this. 😔
The sole, single fact that the ME reported there was no water in her lungs that def negates drowning right off the bat. Drowning is literally the lungs filling up with water and suffocating the person. This def is a coverup and this woman and her family needs justice.
Nope, many times when someone “drowns” the lungs seal themselves off in attempt to survive n the person “drowns” when actually they suffocated under water. But it’s still called drowning n you can 100% drown with zero water in your lungs. It happens all the time. Look it up if you don’t believe it. Not saying this wasn’t a murder just that you can drown without having water in your lungs.
@@ThunderDomeBoxingTalk I did, yea it's called dry drowning, and accounts for a small percentage of drownings. 10-15 percent. And more prevalent with young kids.
Both of you are right , if that makes sense. 😊❤
@@cerealrakist7360 I have watched, read, heard about sooooooo many murder cases they ruled drowning out because of...you guessed it: no water was aspirated. And the fact Ms Romaine was an older woman and found with no water in her lungs 30 miles away from where her "footprints and butt prints" were found tells me this person just tried to troll me and make a one up on me. I did exactly what they told me to do, and guess what? No egg on this face 😁
Also, the lungs sealing up is a lie. When water hits the throat it paralyzes the vocal chords most notably in children, where dry drowning is more prevalent.
It does not take an arm chair detective to uncover a RAT😢 this whole case STINKS OF COVER UP😢😢😢
Going to a church service, walking out and straight into a river to commit suicide is one of THE most unlikely things I've ever heard.
No water found in the lungs scientifically proves that JoAnne did not die in that river.
Hopefully they are able to find out what *REALLY* happened to JoAnne.😔
This needs to be a dateline/48 hours episode. Rest in Heaven Honey
I totally agree with your statement ❤
It was on the Unsolved Mysteries reboot on Netflix, but I agree. Every crime news show should cover this story. When I heard they ruled her death a suicide I literally 😂😮😂😮….like WHAT?!?! Are you seriously going to sell that? And then to go with typical thing women are labeled with ‘paranoid/depressed’ - you know, that old chestnut. 🙄🙄 THIS WAS A COVER UP!!
I think Dateline or 48Hrs did do an episode on this case.
Agree but there is no heaven. That’s child stuff. No Santa either. Which makes it all the more important to get justice now, in this lifetime. Our only lifetime.
If there were a heaven or hell, it wouldn’t matter if someone good was murdered by someone evil. They’d both get what they deserved in an afterlife. So stop buying into that made up nonsense. There is zero evidence for it. It only exists to make us feel less afraid. And to make us forgo seeking justice in the here and now.
Honey bunches of oats
I watch a lot of murder cases and police never go looking for anyone as an adult who is missing less than 48 hours! WTH?
Even if it's a child, they will say it's a run away
F.B.I needs to be brought in to get to the bottom of this. Would not trust Tim as far as i could throw him. He is dirty. He is the reason the cops were there early looking for her before she was missing.
Yes💯
FBI wouldn't confirm nor deny that they met with her. A "non- denial" denial is a confirmation 👍
@@radiantmessenger3369That's how I read it. If they did not meet with her they could come out and say, no meeting. In fact that answer would help the police move forward, so by saying they cannot deny it tells me a lot more about this case
You would think this "cousin" that is a cop would be the first one to step up and investigate this "situation" being it was family he supposedly got along with. Questionable tactics with comrad cops.
Now you said something substantial. Why he didn't do that ?! 🤔?!
That's how an innocent cop would behave.
This wasn't that.
Did anyone else hear when he was asked if he got along with her? He said yeah I liked her. It may be little but first cousins and she’s dead, I would say yes I loved her. Idk it felt weird.

If there was no water in her lungs then obviously she was murdered
@poodlespoodles8967
Dry drowning where water does not enter the lungs but there is assault on the airway.
Water in the oropharynx causes spasm enough to cause lung injury by aspiration.
This can set in within minutes.
( The lungs do not have to be full of water ) There has often been a clash of opinions by the medical fraternity, some of whom deny it exists. It cannot be dismissed ( in my opinion & findings) it takes very little water to drown, not lung fulls as people imagine. Water entering the oropharynx can give rise to spasm & close. A person could already be compromised.
Nor nesssarily
If he is involved you will never find out unless the FBI gets involved because he’s in LE.
Apparently the FBI was involved. They simply refuse to answer any questions to admit their role.
you’re absolutely right

What stopped the one set of foot prints being someone carrying her body? It’s the 2 football fields to the water and what cop station makes a missing person within hours? Ugh.

@@tamitribbiani7907How in the world are you able to see that this case is suspicious, yet you CAN'T see that Trump is suspicious? I think it could be that it's because you have no reason to be partial in the woman's case. I only would ask you to ask yourself if you are REALLY applying the same impartiality to all the Trump cases. It's crucially important to take a good, dispassionate look at the evidence for/against Trump because your opinion in that case MATTERS. The lady who died here most certainly matters, but your opinion of her case doesn't make any practical difference unless you are involved in some way with determining its outcome, and I assume you are not. However, in the Trump case, your opinion matters because your vote matters. He still stands to cause enormous harm to the the world if he wins. Because he is DANGEROUS. Democracy, the Republic, and innocent people everywhere are in danger if he wins. If you don't see that, then you simply have not seen all the relevant facts of the case. Because if you will look at the evidence with an unbiased mind, you can't unsee it. So I can only assume you just haven't seen the facts. Please, before making a decision that you are being told could actually end democracy, consider the arguments carefully. I really wish there was a better alternative to Biden, but there simply isn't.
Respect to 1st LT. Twana Powell, she told the truth that they wanted her to clear allegations, and she wasn't willing to do it. And how do you drown with no water in your lungs? According to the Mayo clinic website... There are no medically accepted conditions known as "near-drowning," "dry drowning" and "secondary drowning." Rather, the terms refer to delayed illness that is caused by aspiration of water into the lungs, which may cause the vocal cords to spasm and the airway to close up. This acute lung injury can develop over minutes to hours after exposure, though, despite news reports, it is quite rare.
But this is not talked about in the report... But curious if corner ever found that her vocal cords were closed off... Anyway, big footprints in the snow, don't equate to tiny feet in stiletto heels. 🤔
Praying for justice for both families.
@spiritisalive1
I beg to differ, the terminology is referred to as such in many medical texts. The term may be used if the findings apply, & then listed accordingly, seldom would a cause of death be read as " drowning".
( Certainly not in those I have dealt with) Policies in practice may differ stateside in comparison to those in Europe & across the globe. Suffice to say this case is one unholy mess.
Well, dry drowning is a "thing." 🤷🏼♀️ The better question to my mind is, how do you go. into the water in Detoit, & be found in Ontario looking like you went in the water, IN ONTARIO CANADA!...🤷🏼♀️🤔 that's the bigger question that will be never be answered, because police services screwed the entire case up, from the get go! There's another good area for querie...forget solving this one! 💁🏻♀️
Thank you for your post. I remember hearing the expression dry drowning for a toddler that drowns in an inch of water and it's exactly what you mentioned. It's generally suffocation but they asphyxiate a little bit of water in their lungs. It's never zero water.

Excellent investigation. This case is highly suspicious. We need the justice department to investigate
This guy did it and police helped... the 6ft man they saw with him was another detective and they all are covering for him. Funny how police never explain why witness is not credible... they just say he is not credible. She had no water in her lungs yet we are supposed to believe she walked in heels to deep enough water to drown, and not only that but end up clear on the other side of that shore in Canada... that is insulting they expect anyone to believe that. I think these police and this Tim were involved in organized crime she found out he did threaten her on that phone call and he had police department help him murder her and cover it up. That would also explain why their stories and times do not match up. Also how did they know who she was and she was " missing" the tag and car was in daughters name. Also how did officer see footprints leading to lake when there was no snow in that lot. This is clearly a homicide case and FBI needs to look at tim the cousin and police department. I believe it was exceptionally well done and they did bring forth evidence to support the facts. And the interviewed more witnesses than unsolved mysteries ever did. But yet we have trolls on this board trying to intimate that Joanne was not or that she did kill herself. This makes me wonder if it's people from the town this happened in? What the hell, that is pretty strange of the FBI to not just come out and say no they did not have a meeting with Joanne. if in fact they didn't have any meeting with her, but for them to come out and say they will not admit nor deny they had a meeting with her really speaks volumes to me.
I know her daughter's pain my moms murder was covered up by the police and the local news paper in Mansfield Ohio 2014 read rotten to the core and rotten to the core 2 these are books on my hometown and the corruption and cover ups. The things i seen when my mom was murdered was like out of a movie😢😢
Sorry sweetie take it one day at a time.
I am so sorry for your loss and your pain. It’s hard enough to lose a loved one never mind in violent circumstances. 🙏🏻
I'm very sorry for your loss and the evil corruption. Much healing and peace to you 🙏♥️
🙏🙏🙏
My mom's friend was about the same size as JoAnn. At the same age as JoAnn, the friend wouldn't have been able to navigate that distance, in snow, in heels, over obstacles, to reach the river. What was shown, with the rebar and concrete barrier, would be challenging, especially with snow, for a fit woman of JM's age.
JM would have been a heavy weight to move. I would deduce that JM was abducted from the parking lot, and somebody else (if the prints ever existed) put the prints into the river. It's altogether possible the running man was simply a jogger in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's also very possible he was a distraction set to cover activity around the church parking lot.
It's difficult to tell from public reports if there are/were forensic opportunities. I would think the best bet for the family would be with the Canadian autopsy and possible samples taken there, as local officials wouldn't be involved.
So much corruption all over the world it's a totally disgusting and sickening!! Poor Lady Rip to Her 💔
Maybe she saw or knew something and was murdered because of it. She hasn't water in the lungs so that shows she didn't drown. Everything sounds very suspicious to me. Maybe it's something to do with catholic church. Who knows. Hope the family gets justice and case will be solved. It wasn't a suicide!
Not in all drowning cases. There is a condition called 'dry drowning '. Although dry drowning isn't necessarily considered drowning, it still is. It's where water enters the larynx, but does not enter the lungs. So it is possible to drown, and for water to not be in the lungs.
That's not quite what dry drowning is. It's when water does get into the lungs but not enough to cause the person to drown then and there. They get out of the water either on their own or with help. A process of irritation of the lungs gets started by the water that got in during the incident and eventually that's the cause of death. Drowning on dry land, so it can't have happened in this case. Not as the facts are presented here. ❤
@@kathleenmcleod2023 I was just repeating what was on Google. That’s what webMD has posted for the answer, but then again, that’s WebMD. 😂
Oh, I almost forgot one more comment. Joanne's body was transported by boat close enough to the Canadian area and then dumped. This person also knows how the tides move in that direction because they've gone that way by boat before. This person is an avid fisherman and he loves to go out on the water. They followed her and they planned this. M
Don’t give up!! Your intuition will guide you through
I work in the world of suicide so to speak in inpatient psychiatric. And everybody who comes in who is suicidal, says what their plan is. Nobody has ever said they’re going to go out in the middle of the freezing, cold and drown themselves in a cold lake. Maybe jumping off a bridge because they know that they’re gonna die upon impact. But nobody is going to just get into a very cold body of water and just freeze to death. That in itself is just so suspicious along with everything else. At some point they just can’t be that many coincidences, or things that have to be explained in a very weird way. Plus in the snow, you can just go back over your footprints and cover them up as you walk away. Or she was just taken somewhere else, and then the perpetrator walked down there, so that there would be one set of footprints going that way. It’s just weird that the police seen one piece of evidence and just go with it and don’t ever talk about all of the possibilities. Very suspicious.
How tragic. Hope the family find out what happened to their loved one.
Clearly not a suicide, more like a major cover up... just horrifying Rip Jo...🕊
pretty obvious police are covering for 1 of their own (Tim)
How the cousin is still in LE is crazy. An internal investigation needs to be done asap
If you watch as many cases as I have in the past 25 years, this one is a bizarre as the come.
So many small towns around this country that have their own law not the laws of the constitution
Grosse pointe woods is literally in the middle of Detroit don’t let the depiction fool you one step across Mack and your in Detroit the people there are snobby but they not evil more like npcs from Micheal’s neighborhood on gta v. 😂
No camera’s in the whole area? That is a huge & important church! I hope the family gets justice! 🙏
Yes that’s a good point.
this is incredible.truth will emerge eventually,in this life or the next
I figure with a town of dirty officials, the case will never be solved. The family would be safer leaving the town especially while pursuing the truth. Pursue in a safe distance from the town. As it is trying to get solution is like five people going head first into a fully armed army. Sad reality.
It's Michigan.. The cops all the way to the Judges LIE! POLICE THE POLICE 💯
Exactly , the entire Michigan police department needs to investigated . Especially WARREN police
He's a LIAR😡I believe the witness, why would he make that up that he saw him that night...🤔🤔🤔Rest in peace to the mother and I pray that God gives the daughters peace
This is the first time I've seen this channel and I subscribed based on this investigation.
Why was she killed? What did she know about whom ?
Need to transfer case from Grosse Pointe to Michigan State Police!!!!
Cousin is so guilty
There is a God and does better justice than law enforcement
Living in Australia 🇦🇺 I heard about this case when this happened. I use to wonder if ever this case was ever solved. Not remembering the names of the victim I could never look this case up to see if there ever was solved.
I am very sorry to hear it never was solved and I feel deeply for the family.
I felt this was a murder to me. I pray hope this is solved very soon.
Corruption at its finest
I think she was kidnapped then several months later murdered n placed in water close to where her. Body found..aybe she knew too much or there was a monetary reason
I’m sorry but “Crooked Cops” comes to mind. Sad to think, but something is totally fishy. Especially now with the only man on her side, Paul Hawke, is now dead too. I really hope it gets solved and all parties involved get put where they belong!!! Good luck, sending love ❤️ hugs and prayers 🙏 to Joann’s family and loved ones as well as Paul Hawke’s family. From NWOntario, Canada 🇨🇦.
This is definitely a cover-up and I pray for her family to get justice for Joanne. 🙏🙏💔💔
She was murdered 😢
So disturbing that Paul Hauk died
Very shady what did she know who did she know that was in gaged in criminal activity you just don't plan a hit because of an family argument on the phone was there a fight over family money
Exactly! And what kind of corruption was/is running through that police dept.?! 😱
She told her daughters to look towards her cousin if something bad happened to her, & he was a police detective. How awful. She didn't tell her kids what was going on because it would protect THEM. She knew they'd run straight to the police.
@@elizabethjarvie6077 I think it was more incompetence because there not experienced enough to handle something like that so they were covering up their own mistakes It made it look real suspicious.
Bless these sisters we stand with you xx
Well then if city attorneys told him not to speak then they are terrified at what could come out of what he says?
How and why do cops go from seeing an empty car to a missing person immediately, it makes absolutely no sense 🤦🏼♀️
I had to quit watching after 18 minutes. I was getting too angry about the investigation. I'll check back on this another day to hopefully see someone under arrest.
Because who ever at church witnesses her walk toward the water and then never saw her again that’s why the police asked if she was missing
How would they know that she walked towards the lake with an empty parking lot and only a car registered to her daughter with Noone there to tell the cops anything of the sort until after the cops already stopped at her house to ask the daughters if their mother was missing? Suspicious dirty Cops!
Can they not get his cell phone or did his car have gps that can be checked?
Were there an cc tv cameras?
