- The SNP has received an “immediate lift” in canvassing sessions as John Swinney prepares to become its next leader, the party’s depute leader has claimed.
Keith Brown said the “field is clearing” as it is expected that Mr Swinney will run unopposed and be confirmed as SNP leader later on Monday.

The Scottish system where we have 73 elected MSPs and then we get 56 also rans foisted on us gives 129 MSPs. The equivalent of 1,720 MPs in Westminster which would be considered ridiclous. These extra 56 MSPs cost a lot and I never se my 7or8 holding public meetings or giving justification for their salaries. Holyrood is far from full at FMQT. Why do we Scots never challenge Holyrood and its set up?

Sturgeons only claim to fame was the baby boxes filled with meaningless stuff which most mothers already had but it did give her a lot of political leverage. fortunately, the baby boxes didn't have painted-on windows and everything fitted into the box and they did come within budget, the only time anything the SNP did .

The worrying thing here, is how easy it was to get extreme views in law as a result of proportional representation. For example the ridiculous gender law that helped double r*pists be put in Scotland’s women’s prisons and the recent hate law. If this can happen, imagine an ideology that has a high proportion of extremism across the world being able to get their wants through.
Modern democracy is a dangerous system indeed.

Reform UK are demanding PR because they are usless at getting votes in an isolated areas. Sometimes people behave one way when they are simply in charge of one department or another, and then behave another way as soon as they are in a position of power. We saw that with Tony Blair.
Came on here by accident - what a load of rubbish. You are fixated by “majorities”, obviously, bur clearly uninformed about PR in Scotland. In 1999 it was set up to prevent a majority happening.. However, someone called Alex Salmond, heard of him ? He broke that mould and Sturgeon continued it.
You really must do your homework about Scotland and its politics before spouting this garbage.
They need the Parliament working together for the benefit of Scotland as it was designed to do, but what we have is nearly half working for the Union and against Scotland.

That's very true of the SNP and as a consequence, Independence is toast for at least 15-20 years (if ever).
It's down to the total lack of preparation in the last 17 years. Scotland now has a £ 20 + BILLION budget deficit which has to be funded, no real improvement in both internal and export infrastructures, declining education, health and local services and such as the seabed for wind farms was sold off @ fire sale price, ferries late and way over budget.
No coherent 'pathway to Independence' has been articulated to the electorate, only a number of very expensive, high-level, glossy brochures full of word soup and totally lacking credibility - promises of taking 100,000 children out of poverty, FREE bikes and laptops, i/2 price train fares.
The other half of the SNP are fighting purely for POWER - limiting local government, centralising everything - eg: Named Adult and Hate Crime Bills extended mpa's; Sleekit increased taxation eg: ULEZ, pay-per-mile; and then spend, spend, spend on vanity projects and jobs for the grey kilt slugs.
There will always be those who cannot accept it, but reality is a cruel mistress as Useless has just found out and Swinney will.

@@blackislepeas Scotland does NOT have a £20 Billion plus deficit, Scotgov is NOT ALLOWED to have a deficit. The alleged deficit is created by UK spending and allocating the cost to Scotland, with Scotgov having no say whatsoever on WHAT or even WHERE in the UK or the WORLD it is spent. The TRANSITION to Indy will take several years so there will be plenty of time to arrange things, as every coutry in the world has had to do, sometimes even in great haste after a disastrous war. Scotland is better resourced and more fit for indy than any country before it.
