The original Shalimar (EDP) is lovely. The dry down is beautiful if you let it the opportunity to develop, it is not soo strong
@@Jaiem_ ive heard a few people say santal royal smells like "petrol", i wonder if its a skin chemistry thing cause to me santal royal is such a beautiful oud ,rose, cinnamon and sandalwood.

Hi Soki. I really enjoy your reviews. I love classic Guerlain perfumes and Shalimar is one of my favourites. The bergamot opening note and then the vanilla and iris take you on a lovely scent journey.
I love the dry-down of the original Shalimar. My husband has just bought me another bottle. I also love smelling the box - it has this beautiful pepper notes. I love love love Shalimar EDP, and thank you so much for this review.
The original Shalimar (EDP) Is sublime, I spray it in my bath water and the sent is absolutely intoxicating...
The best Shalimar for me is Parfum Initial beautifullll perfume unique , i dont know why Guerlain discontinued this beautiful perfume . 😢
Hey Soki! I only own the original Shalimar. But there's so many flankers I need to try. The Eau de Shalimar sounds delightful as I love a lime note. Souffle also sounds amazing. Very informative and Great video! 😊❤️

I got the orange. I'm in love with it. I have to buy 2 bottles afraid that it will be discontinued. Feel so honoured that you like this version too.
Shalimar smells like old plastic/leather left in the sun with cracked pepper on top and there is a lemon tree next to the old leather couch that you put pepper on and all of it was left in a melted ziplock bag in extreme heat with lemon sweat in the bag.
It wasn't reformulated. Same smell like in the 20s. The formula is secret and only few have access to her.
Any laboratory having gas chromatograph can decode any formula these days in minutes.

Souffle de parfum is such a leather parfum. It has very intense leather fragrance you can feel. But dont judge its because a few times later a very sweet vanilla say hello. You’ll love it
I love Shalimar edp I don't like the edt versions too watery for my liking & not a fan of the new versions either I have the Ltd edition Shalimar sur la route de Madagasca which is divine! Thanks for the wonderful review a civet is a small nocturnal animal found in parts of Asia & Africa & yes now the civet in perfumes is synthetic
Aqua allegoria are fabulous for summer I love the ginger piccante & I also have the vanille & ylang that came out in the 1990s

Actually Linitial Shalimar was very popular and when it was discontinued people were selling them on eBay for a little fortune. Guerlain brought it back, just changed its name to In'itial and a bottle. It is very similar to the original one, maybe a bit sweeter.
Hi Soki: what sad about Shalimar Parfum Initial. I love it! i Have 2 bottles of back up because I find it much better than the original: very spicy and very long lasting. Anyway, the idea was good, but the audience of the 00s is very diferent of the 90s and below, now parfums are really powerful but somehow, more sinthetics. This one still smells old, but not so, is close to Guerlain L Homme Ideal Parfum (wich i love, lots of "guerlanise iris". It´s in my winter wardrove . Lots of love from Argentina!

To all English people... Stop saying "soufflé" 😂 it's a speciality culinary with cheese... So it smells not really good compared to this perfume. It's Shalimar souffle, pronounce "souffl-"

Love Shalimar EDT, strong but not overwhelming. Wasn't impressed with Soufflé and Soufflé de Lumiere. They felt uninspired.

I am one of those people that LOVED the shalimar initial perfum and I stopped using it because I found out guerlain is not cruelty free. I’d like to ask you if you know any other brands of perfume that resembles to th Shalimar Initial with the blue tassel or to Le petit Robe Noire eau de toilette? I really love both scents. The original was very popular with flappers which makes sense given the year it came out.
Thank you for the beautiful review. I have the EDC version and much as I love it, it is beautiful. I love the citrus opening and the powdery notes! Delicious! But I find the dry down a little too sweet on me. It's a shame as the rest of it is beautiful. I like the sound of the souffle one, plus the orange one sounds nice too! I am a big fan of Guerlain and own and prefer the old classics to the new ones except for Herba Fresca which I love!

I owned Shalimar edt and edp about ten yrs ago but I really loved the Parfum Initial flanker for daytime use. I bought de l’eau version as well but that one I found annoying. Luckily I stocked up on Parfum Initial before it was discontinued. But actually, My favorite for daily use now is the eau de cologne.
I never tried the souffle or the newest one: ‘philtre de parfum’ because I have enough shalimars at the moment!

Shalimar EDP is beauty but too strong for me. I bought Shalimar EDT and I love this perfumes. I have Shalimar Souffle Intense 💕 (the best version of all) and Shalimar Souffle (very nice daily perfumes). I 💖 Guerlain.

I’m a huge fan of the OG Shalimar. I loved it as a teenager in the 1990s and did not care who disliked it🤭. It makes me think of sex in a garden Great Gatsby style.

Anyway Im not a big fan of Shalimar, I do own a small bottle but it’s too loud and strong for me so i rarely wear it. I do also have the Soufflé intense bottle and like it, i love citrusy floral scents for Spring and Summer.

Of the Shalimars, I have Cologne, Souffle, Souffle Intense, and Parfum Initial. I can’t get used to the play-doh opening of the original, it may be the leather or the civet, not sure. But I am most interested to try Souffle de Oranger of all of them. I personally think Initial lasts the longest on my skin, so to each their own. Lately I haven’t been wearing the Souffles as they are heavy on musk and my mother can’t stand it (been around her a lot for the holidays).

Btw, Shalimar Parfum Initial was considered "spicy"??! I'm shocked anyone could feel that way. SPI is sweet and fluffy. What's that all about? Is Patchouli spicy to some people?
Edit: I just realized how old this video is. A lot more Shalimars have been released since then!
Of these I have bottles of Parfum Initial, Souffle Intense, and Shalimar Cologne (not eau de Cologne) and I find the Initial and Cologne to be similar except the Initial definitely has the iris vibe. I really dislike the leather/incense vibe of the original. I also have a decant of Souffle de Parfum but I don’t really reach for it compared to Intense version. For Initial, I find it actually has really great lasting power, better than the other flankers.

John Bates bought me some for Christmas, back in the 70s when I worked for him. I still wear it, so he chose well!!
I tried shalimar, chanrl no5 and dior jadore and my husband and me picked jadorr.
To be honest, both shalimar and chanel no5 smells more towards maturr ladies, classy, feminine but older people. Jadore smells quite light and wint hurt anyone, heheh. Dont blind buy shalimar and chanel no5 as thry smells heavy, powdery and old people. I dont know if it is just me😂

I have Misouko by Guerlain, which is an a antique perfume too.
In my case I love Shalimar and gets in my skin like a fresh vanilla sof powdered aroma delicious, the incience that yu are talking about is very weak is not smell at all in my skin, everytime I use Shalimar people ask me wow what is that parfume it smell delicious so I think ithere is a parfume for every skin. Love Shalimar..the soufle it smell very strong in my skin so I have to be moderate with that one.

Shalimar edt has its own world for me..like my past with my grandma..n i definitely love it
Shalimar perfume is not strong at all. It became very soapy in the dry down and discreet . You never use it if you say that is strong. I am wear it for 15 years and I know.
I really wanted to love this. But to me it smells like burnt rubber. I guess it has to grow on you. 😕

I received a small decanter of Shalimar and didn’t like it at all......I’ve been trying to give its time, letting it sink, waiting for it to develop.......i just can’t, I’m not capable to appreciate it. :(
I went to a local beauty store this evening and smelled the original Shalimar EDP for the first time, in one word...Disgusting. I really tried to wait and see if something pleasant would develop but nothing but it smelled like expired medicinal muscle ache cream....it turned my stomach and burned my nose. I also tried Mon Guerlain EDP and at first I thought it was somewhat pleasant, but it's sickly sweet and smells horrible one...husband hates it too....not sure if Guerlain is for me. The big hits with me were Versace Dylan Blue, Gucci Bamboo, YSL Mon Paris, Chloe by Chloe and Viva La Juicy Noir & GA Acqua di Gioia....runners up are Daisy So Sweet, V&R Bon Bon and Dior Poison & Addict were quite pleasant as well. I regret spraying Mon Guerlain on my wrists now they still stink after a few hours and after scrubbing them with soap.

According to there GUERLAINE and a documentary the Formula for the perfume has not changed since 1925. It is annoying and a shame that you can find most perfumes like this physically in most department stores and drug stores now in the USA. it is all Celebrity designer Garbage mostly! to find them in store you must go to Maceys and pay a arm and a legg for them. I would get 1-2 bottles a year of fine French or English perfume. Shalamar is always one and for the past few years I have gotten it from my nearby drug store Walgreens bc. they are the only lace aside from Macys that carry it in store. i went into the store a month ago saw the counter and was desolated to find they no longer seem to be carrying it in store. the still carry it but i would have to order it pay for shipping and handling plus the sales tax! luckily they only charged 52-56 dollars before tax which is a quarter of the full price of what it is actually worth but even that is still a bit beyond my normal budget.
