The biggest thing that shocked me is how dead the city got. It went from horns honking every other minute on Friday’s rush-hour to only about three during Monday’s rush-hour downtown. When the holidays come around, it almost feels like you have the city to yourself.
one place i absolutely loved inn d.c. was the national arboretum what a great place to be so relaxed with so many things to see and trails to walk, the national herb garden and the bonsai trees there are excellent, went the last week of april for reference weather was absolutely gorgeous that time of year
I totally agree on shoes being the most important part of preparing for walking in DC. When I was in DC in November, I walked 31,027 steps (11.8 miles) in one day. I had a great time and am looking forward to coming back.
Amen to good shoes! I felt like I walked so much it was equivalent to a Disney World vacation in terms of all the steps and my feet being worn out by the end even with good shoes. I would definitely ride the metro more next time I am there.
Hi! Love your channel. Going to visit with my family in April. Can’t wait!! We’re planning on one of your guided tours. Any recommendations for great comfortable walking shoes?
What I recommend is go to a dedicated walking or running shoe store. They will have much better shoes and staff who can help you find the best option for you. I gave up on big box shoe stores a long time ago.
@@TripHacksDC I mean - you know - I"m partial to ROOSEVELTS! But I'm gonna be SUPER LAME AND BASIC and say - that Capitol building gets me EVERY * SINGLE * TIME. I also really liked how clean the subway was. Compared to NYC, that was very impressive!
Enjoying your channel! Really REALLY think visitors should explore outside of Georgetown and the mall. Even areas like West End, the Wharf and the H Street corridor have alot to offer and should be easy to get to from the main banks of hotels and other tourists areas. On the shoes front, another attire tip for fall and especially spring (so now) is to definitely pack and dress in layers, since the day to day, and even temps during the day can fluctuate so much. That way as the day warms up you can remove layers and visa versa.
The last time I visited, I was there for a week and had an average of 30k steps per day. In hindsight I probably squeezed too much into each day, but it was worth it. And there was still so much I didn’t have time to see.
I would absolutely love to see a video about the statehood movement in DC. I remember seeing Mayor Bowser roast a reporter who asked an unrelated question during a press conference about the statehood movememt.
Appreciate all the tips, so helpful but. . . We are still here, and we were shocked to find out that driving in DC is not bad at all - we lived in Chicago for about a decade, and found the signage here simple, the traffic after 6 pm virtually Disappears, We understand the flow of a big city and I know it’s off season but there was easily found street parking everywhere we biked, and unlike Chicago, bikers and pedestrians pretty much do what you’d expect, even after the Capitals game, -we would have made a lot of bigger plans had we realized using our car wouldn’t be a problem. So take that “don’t drive in DC” with a grain of salt. If you’re lifelong country and trying to tiptoe in the left lane then yeah - stay on the bus. But we wasted a lot of opportunities by being scared off of the roads.
DMV means Department of Motor Vehicles in several states. I'm a DC native* and I never heard this DMV nonsense growing up * a REAL DC native. Born and raised in the city itself not the suburbs.

National Arboretum is 💯
@@TripHacksDC absolutely its such a beautiful and quiet palace, going there on a weekday in late spring is just magnificent
Two of my favorite people!

Whoa that's a lot. Nice job!
Trial hack videos are mostly promo restaurants and other businesses. It’s garbage.

I think Disney World is a good comparison for the amount of walking many people do.
People are also shocked at how clean Metro Rail is 😊
If you want contrast ride the DC and NYC systems the same day.
Awesome to see Mark here, great info !!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Peace and love from SE

Yeah the stations are quite grand, aren't they?

D.C. is gorgeous :)
Agree 😃
Cool! I love Marks channel!
Me too!
What will be the Before Christmas holiday hours of Christmas Break for the Natural History Museum?
LEGENDS!

I'll see what I can do 👍
it would be great to see a serious one, but John Oliver's Last Week Tonight did a fair job of covering it. ua-cam.com/video/4Z4j2CrJRn4/v-deo.html
All you have to do is read the constitution and you will find the answer that it is impossible for DC to be a state.
DC should have been a state already!! DC for statehood 🤩
I strongly disagree with Wolters we aren't unfriendly.
I'd like to see a camping tips in DC video. Are they any good campgrounds around there?
Cherry hill
I'd love to see a video on the history of / your opinions on DC statehood! No rush but I'd love your perspective
OK let's see what I can do!
I'm old, when I lived in DC it was never an issue that anybody ever talked about.

Geographically, DC is not big, it's tiny.
Correct
I like small
