  • There is amazing footage of the nighttime fireball of the Buzzard Coulee Meteorite that fell in Canada on November 2008. The fall occurred just before a blanket of winter snow, so the meteorites are well preserved. In this episode, Geoff and Steve search for pieces of this famous meteorite. Also, the meteorite hunters receive a surprise invitation to visit the newly discovered, and highly protected, Whitecourt Crater and hunt the surrounding area.
    -
For thousands of years, meteorites have slammed into the Earth's surface carrying an invaluable record of the origins of our solar system. But finding meteorites on Earth, some buried over centuries by thick layers of dirt and sediment, is no easy task.
Meteorite hunters Steve Arnold and Geoff Notkin travel to some of the most remote locations around the world to explore the scientific and financial value of meteorites. Featuring treks in Chile, Sweden, Australia, the US, Mexico, and more, these meteorite men meet with top scientists, geologists, astronomers, and meteorite experts to reveal a deeper understanding of how meteorites have helped to build our solar system and shape our planet.

About 10 years ago, one of these exploded over northern SC and woke me up... Seriously, I thought someone shot a large gun or crashed a car across the street until the local news reported 911 calls repeatedly reporting similar events across a few hundred miles in two states. The official story later that day was that a meteor blew up over the area. The funny thing was this was right after we had two earthquakes hit the area (one locally and the other one a few states away that both felt and sounded like an airliner landing next door).

Just to have been a part to have heard it was a rare event! It's so awesome! I was sitting on my balcony one night when an enormous brilliant streak crossed the night sky in front of me - it was so fast I couldn't even comprehend what I'd seen but it was so spectacular I will never forget it. (It didn't seem fair I was all alone when I saw something so incredible, lol)!😊

I didn’t hear a shockwave with the one I saw fall… collected a ton of glass though…. Maybe have been moving to fast to create a sound wave… made chely look like a slug in sky lol.

Just remember it’s not the size of the meteorite it’s the trajectory and how fast they enter the atmosphere.

Metal detectors are a better bet on farms where there is lots of junk metal & magnetic terrestrial rocks just under the tilled surface.... also it's hard to roll anything over the sprigs of dry grass & uneven terrain. They use very expensive metal detectors which actually tell you what type of metal it's detecting, so you can ignore the hundreds of rusty screws & earth rocks that would otherwise clog up one of those rolling bars. But they'd be great in an urban environment 👍

    Long-Time Viewer, First Time Hounder.
I Put A Large Swivel Magnet Onto A Pole and Went To A Place Where They Say Is A Strewn Field.
Within Five to Ten Minutes I Felt the " CLUNK " and the End of the Pole A Was Surprised by What I Saw.
It Was Slightly Larger Than A Quarter but Way Too Heavy For Something That Small.
Still stuck to the Magnet , Very Heavy and Very Dark. Just Something Odd About This Little Rock.
Minutes Later I Got Another Hit, Then Another, Then Another and Before Long, I Wasn't Even Using the Magnet Anymore.
The Rocks Were Dark Enough and Heavy Enough to Tell.
I Didn't Bring A Sack or Bucket or Anything and My Shorts Fell Off. So I Made A Pile and Got Them Later.
The Largest One Was the Size a Baseball . Many of them Did Have the Bluish, Brownish and Reddish Tones.
So I Cleaned Them All Up and Brought Them to the Rock Shop to Get Them Assessed !
I Showed Him the Large One First and then just a few of the Really Pretty Ones .
Before I Could Show Him Anymore , He Kindly Stopped Me and Said " Sir ,
You Have A Bucket Full Of Hematite.
    Hematite , It Is Magnetic?
    It Is Very Dense?
Named Hematite For Its Reddish and Bluish Shades?
    Hemoglobin ?

Good one, Canada, without the complications, on a farm field. Quite impressive ! But you really should have a replacement on standby for exactly that kind of situation/accident. It's your beloved work/hobby after all. And quite frankly, I wonder if they're durable and quite sturdy to handle. I'm checking online and wonder which the heavy duty brands are, say, ideal for your level of adventure which should be more than what I need for spelunking.

I love the meteorite saw fall!!!! It took me 15 years to find it!!!!!! it’s one of the much rarer meteorites that is barely attracted to a magnet for the most part and has a very strange square shape… the weirdest part in my opinion though is that when you touch the meteorite you can feel freezing cold air coming from the center of the stone…. Maybe it’s a tiny comet? Try not to hold it TO much because it can make you feel very sick and vomit on rare occasions. One of my fav stones by far though.

What I found April 14th 2021 will blow your mind... a stone filled with micro-photographically placed images of ET's. Upon taking 12.1mps at 4K resolution this is what I found, and where it's lead me. Sadly virtually no audience of the blog and recent video. I'm new at video narration and editing, but much to see, plus the blog link in description of UA-cam video. This is WAY too amazing to go unseen.
