    What I got from this video is the discipline it takes to be an elite athlete. The discipline to eat correctly, get enough sleep, train numerous times a day, and the discipline it takes to maintain that routine day in day out.

    Welcome... a new treadmill disciple...lol.... I love them- for the reasons you mention- and I love them for precise workouts- such as a hard interval session, where there are no variables to worry about like wind/rain etc... :)

    Must be getting exciting to know what's coming in your future, I cannot imagine the anticipation! I have been watching your Vlogs since day one cheering you three on and to be honest you are looking stronger and more confident now than at any other time. Lot's of luck from the Comeau family to you in your upcoming season.

    Really interested in your cross training. I know most pros mostly just run (although I see Colleen swims, yay!) but many of us mortals do better at running by cross training more because our bodies can't handle just running. Do you feel stronger with the bike workouts or is it more for injury management.

    • @GwenJorgensen
      @GwenJorgensen  5 років тому

      Cecilia Bidwell it’s mostly injury prevention and a way to get the Cardio up without the stress of running

    very inspiring and interesting! Would you mind talking about period/having or loosing period when being an athlete or training a lot?

    • @GwenJorgensen
      @GwenJorgensen  5 років тому +3

      Gretchen Hering love this topic! I am able to menstruate at a low body weight. I haven’t missed a period besides because of Stanley since college. I think losing your period can be the first sign of your body shutting down and can cause stress fractures and bone health issues. I would love to talk more about this in a new episode

    Quick question Gwen, I run 100+ miles a week in my marathon buildups and when I do doubles, I generally keep the afternoon runs at a slower pace. What is your strategy with the afternoon/evening runs? Do you run fast in the evening?

    • @GwenJorgensen
      @GwenJorgensen  5 років тому +1

      Arunaabh Shah depends but usually I’m more fatigued and are slower. Easy days are good especially when you are running high volume

    How can you have no idea when your next race is? Don't you have any input into the coaching process? Do you leave every decision entirely to the coach?

    • @GwenJorgensen
      @GwenJorgensen  5 років тому +1

      mark Bateman we both know the next big goal race is the trials. Usatf hasn’t come out with a formal policy yet although we do know what they’ve posted and shared we are waiting for final verification before making final plans to know the best route for 2020

      @@GwenJorgensen Thanks for the reply! Still a bit unreal to an old timer like me that Olympic medalists actually read my random mutterings and take the time to reply!
      I'm an old ex competitive runner (and was never that good even in my prime!) and come from a British tradition of frequent racing - a couple of weeks without a race of some kind was pretty rare. A race simply replaced one of that weeks harder sessions. do you ever just jump into a relatively low key 5K or 10K and think of it as a harder training run?
      Whatever, very best wishes for 2019 and, of course, next year. Hope everything works out for you!

  • @Brockdorf
    @Brockdorf 5 років тому +4

    I have no desire for you to go back to tri, I really enjoy the marathon trip. I hope we dont have a bouncy ball interview again (just teasing, but was hard to watch), and would love to see hubby hit the bike again and his cooking show. Fascinated on Nike and your coach's perspective on biking as cross training. Hanson is almost totally against it, so curious because it is so nice to throw the bike as a cross train instead of another easy day.

    Good luck with your future races.
    Btw, I advise you to be a little bit skeptic regarding Jerry. I believe he brunt you out before the Chicago marathon, just like he burnt Shalane and Kara before the 2016 Olympics. If you had trouble with long runs, it means Jerry had you run so many "recovery" runs just before your long run that your body couldn't handle it.
    Have a good one.
