    I was stationed at MCAS Beaufort 78-81. Loved crabbing, shrimping, and fishing the intercoastal waterways in the Beaufort area! Best of times!

    Hello sir. I see that you are familiar with Lake Murray in SC. I really miss that place. My Grandmother was Minnie Dreher. Our family had a piece of land there that is run by the state now but still beautiful and it just reminds me of how good God is. After a century of life in SC she had some wonderful stories of that lake. Keep these good videos coming. Tight lines brother.

      Thanks for sharing that my friend, I bet my father knew your Grandmother because I was born in the town of Chapin in 1951 in a house that is still standing on Peak St. in the town limits of Chapin. Thanks for watching The Old Fisherman videos.

      Hey Doug, you better believe that shrimping is hard work. I had to prove that I could still throw that cast net. I will probably retire from shrimping now. Ms Debrah and I had a good time trying, one more time. Not sure if the schnauzers like it as much. Thanks for watching us on one of our last shrimping trips.

    What is the best mesh size for netting shrimp

    • @theoldfisherman2040

    I grew up working the canals down in Hitchcock. I'd pole my raft up and down casting and setting out mud minnow traps. Once night would fall I'd have to be back home. That's when them chicken necks went in the water. If you hungry down there you just a blamed fool.

  • @Denzel_4
    @Denzel_4 5 років тому

    Where is he fishing? How many shrimp am I able to keep and am I allowed to set up my own bait poles or are they already out there. And lastly do you know of any more shrimp filled areas in South Carolina.

    • @theoldfisherman2040
      @theoldfisherman2040  5 років тому +1

      You Buy a shrimp baiting license in South Carolina. The season run's from the middle of September to the middle of November. You can put out 10 poles and you have tags on them. The tags are bought at DNR office or on line. The limit is 48 qt cooler full.

    • @Denzel_4
      @Denzel_4 5 років тому

      Okay thank you. Steve Comalander just one 48 qt cooler? What bait did you use? Did you use the clay and corn meal mix patties? And what size net and brand is the best to purchase for shrimping.

    • @theoldfisherman2040
      @theoldfisherman2040  5 років тому +1

      I use 1/3 fish meal, 1/3 white clay and 1/3 red clay mix water and make a patty about twice the size of a hamburger and put them about 8ft in front of the pole. The law states that the net mesh has to be no smaller than 1/2 inch. Hope that helps.

    How do you make the bait ball?

    • @theoldfisherman2040
      @theoldfisherman2040  5 років тому

      I use 1/3 white clay, 1/3 red clay and 1/3 fish meal. Add water and mix together together. Get a ball twice the size of a bass ball and pat it together. You got to learn not to put to much water and not to have to dry. Hope that helps, that's the way I do it. Thanks for watching.
