Great review. It was refreshing to see your review start w/ a personal reflection on what sparked your appreciation for sneakers. I will state for myself it was the Air Jordan 3 White Cement in "87" while in middle school. Still my favorite silhouette to this day. The AJ12 is in my top three w/ the AJ5. I plan to pass on this AJ12, however I do believe it is a great looking sneaker. Best wishes.
Thank you for the kind words! 3s are up there for me, the black cement 3s specifically. 12s were the first shoe that made me really notice design and color. Thank you again!
@@thereviewd I couldn't exactly say perfect for the 2023 version, but I will say it's a great retro still. I'm saying that because if you are comparing it to the 1997 OG White/Red(Japan) 12, they still haven't gotten the red transulcent sole in it's proper color. Very noticeable when you look at the white 23 on the heel. There suppose to be a contrast of reds near the jumpman tab and heel. Much better leather and craftsmanship if we are comparing them to the 2022 Playoff 12.
@TheDudeAbides1998 details, thanks for the info. When I watched the weartesters review, he did comment on the 23 at the base of the heel and variations but overall was happy with this version. The one thing I noticed over the years is, GRs almost always lack in material quality and quality control. These came out great, materials were good and most importantly each shoe looked like one another, no real variations 😂
@@thereviewd That's why I doubled up on them. Behind the translucent sole on the OG white/red (Japan) 12, they left the heel portion white and the fore foot portion was in red....Most lizard embossed prints on retro 12s looks off in shape and print wise for men size. This time, the shape of the lizard embossed print/sun design looks better on them.....If you notice GS/Youth versions look even closer to what the OG was in shape of the lizard embossed print. The 2023 version flip the reds around if you compare them to the 2009.
super interesting. I have a few 12s, the lizard print is sometimes really faint and sometimes obvious, I had the "Master" 12s, materials were really good but the lizard print was really weird. Just taking another look at the forefoot and heel, it's crazy how solid/saturated the red is versus the heel.
The 2009 pair is far from the 1997 OG Pair. The red on that 09 pair was more of a bright maroon type red than Varsity Red. Also the shape of that shoe was more short and less sleek. The 2023 pair imo is the closest to the 97 pair we’re going to get. Even collectors that have a DS 1997 pair said the same thing
That's amazing to hear, I appreciate that. When I tell you I was obsessed with this shoe as a kid... I was obsessed. The fact that they got it as close to OG as they did makes me happy. I haven't unds'd mine yet but I'm itching to. Thank you for the insight!
It's blasphemous generally to say the 12 since the 3s and 4s are generally the popular "best" shoes. But the 12 is what started my love of sneakers... and the Questions. I have to ask... What's number 1?
Yes! Can't argue with that, great shoe great colorway. The 14s were my first Jordans, saved up and bought them on clearance 😂 the indiglo colorway specifically. The 5s are classics... Just the silhouette and story/inspiration. Had the grape 5s from... 2014 or something like that but ended up selling them.
If there’s anything you want to know or if there’s anything I missed about the Cherry 12’s leave a comment!
Love your review, love your content, love the XII. Enjoy your childhood shoes man!
Thank you so much for that!!

We used to call them white/red 12. Since the design theme of the 12 is Japanese. The nickname I'm calling them is Japan 12. My favorite 12 colorway.
That’s what Nightwing said as well, no nicknames just colors. Love it though, mine is the taxi’s or white/black. Perfect show overall.

How’s the sizing are they running the same
Yep, for me as a wide footer I go true to size at a 12 but there’s enough room to go down half a size if I want a snug fit.

@@thereviewd oh this was an immediate double up for me. My favorite Jordan 12 of all time. Second favorite shoe of all time
