Wow, what an amazing place to dig! My 85-year-old father has been a rockhound forever, but can't walk very well anymore. He lives in Oregon - this would be a great place to take him for a little bit of rocking fun!
My wife and I went to that same mine and dug in a virgin pit and in an hour we got close to 2 thousand sun stones and we only dug about 1/3 of our pit. A pit size is 36"×36..If you dig the whole pit you should have ALOT OF SUNSTONES. It was 100+ degrees when we got there and there was no breeze at all and we had to leave after awhile. My advice is to get there early and bring a large outdoor table umbrella and lots of water, a long flat head screwdriver that has a 1/2" thick shaft thats about 18" long and a 3 pound hammer. Good luck and happy hunting.
We are commercial cutters of Sunstones. Brilliant cut, Calibrated sizes. If you need our services, pls send your rough to: GPO Box 1142, Bangkok, Thailand. We used to work for " Dust Devil Mining" Oregon. Satisfaction guaranteed.
❤ I love the colors, and that little one with the green right in the middle. All of them were very awesome. Thank you for sharing your experience with us 😊 Thumbs-up 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤😊
The spectrum mine has beautiful stones and many options for customers . I've been going there for years and met people from all over the world there to dig sunstones
I have never heard of these before and I shall have to ask my son if he has heard of them. They are beautiful, the blending of the colours is so lovely especially when held up to the light. Thank you for showing us these little beauties, I've learned something new again. Take care my friend, Mary-Ellen UK
Like a kid in a candy store picking out the sunstones from the conveyor belt could see the genuine excitement 😂 thank you for sharing! 😊 kinda looks like watermelon tourmaline!!
I just bought a gorgeous sunstone ring while in Boston. It’s not from Oregon. India I believe. A nice orange with copper inclusions. I never heard of sunstone. So I researched and found it was mined in Oregon! Guess who has a brother in Portland?? I will definitely check out this mine and the other mine on BLM land.
I've been here twice in the last 10 years, and my wife and I will be heading there again this year. We've never left disappointed, and I highly recommend buying an hour at the conveyor if you can - we got some giant ones that way.
I’ve been hoping to go back and missed it this year from the fire and heat. Yeah I found out about the Hot Springs after I left, that would be really cool to visit
Yeah this place is super cool, it was really hot and smoky a month ago when I was near enough to go. I didn’t make it, got bummed out but I guess next year I’ll get there early! Yeah I should check it out for sure, it’s a awesome location!!
Wow! All the way out here in Oregon. I live in southern Oregon, but have yet to go for sunstones. I’ll just have to do it this next year, looks like a fun time. Thanks for the video and the info. Well done like always.
Look in the rivers in Indiana I have a great collection of Quartz crystals, Feldspar, Agate, Moonstone, and fossils. Look for were the stones pile up and when the water is low splash the rocks with water and you will find treasures.
I’ve been hoping you would make a video at Spectrum. It’s an incredible experience all around. I enjoyed all of the collecting methods they have, and I highly recommend the belt run to anyone who makes the trip to Spectrum. Happy digging!
I can't believe how beautiful they are! I haven't been to Oregon since I was a kid so maybe it's time to plan another trip (if the CAD/USD exchange rate ever improves, that is.)
Couldnt help but notice the game songs. Your probably a gamer on your time off huh. When your not collecting crystals, your playing fallout. 🎮😎 Keep it going though. I Enjoy your vids. Makes me want to go collect some crystals too
When I was living in I Idaho there was a man who sold them. I never got a chance to buy one as he died. I had heard the government had closed off the area. I'm glad your digging some maybe I can get one from you next month. Ms Michal
I've been a rockhound, and especially a crystal collector since I was a little kid. Well, I'm so glad I've been going back through your videos. This one called to me because of the image you used for the primary photo of this video. I was amazed, and a little upset. See, several years ago I got interested again in rocks and crystals, as I was about to retire, and ready to spend some time doing more things I enjoyed, not just so much dumb s*** I had to do for 20+ years on my job. I bought some rocks that I thought sounded cool, and some awesome quartz crystals. But I also bought a couple of "sunstones." I had never seen any, and really should have Googled it. I got two rocks, but seeing the images of the sunstones you are digging out of the ground, well, oops. Somebody sent me a couple of nice tumbled...orange rocks. Some kind of agate-ish quartz. Thanks for this nice lesson in checking things out better and a learning experience in how awesome is sunstone!
Almost had my chance to go to Oregon this past July. My husband had a business trip but our work was being weird about it. I wasn’t going to bother him much, really! I was going to rent a truck and take off for glass butte for a day or so. Wanted to bring back my son all the different types of obsidian. I admit it. I’m a bit jealous! 👍
Native Oregonian since 1959. I have a friend that has a sunstone mine too. Your accent sounds like you are from Iowa or Nebraska. My uncle has the same accent. Lol. I stunning stone.
Hubby and I went there for our 15 year anniversary. We're so in love with the area. We almost bought the house and cabin out there. ...But those mosquitoes 😆
hi gothic just wondering... i live in the MUCH wetter part of Oregon (Coastal Mountain Range) and I almost never see mosquitoes. Were you joking or was the area you were looking in really mosquito ridden? Seems strange, especially if you were looking in the high desert areas near Plush... but, then again, there is a lake nearby sooooo... I dunno, just wondering. Hope you found a happy place to land with a kick ass mine nearby ;)
@@auntie-angie-2112 the mosquitoes from that lake...near sunset.. Good grief! I think i might have eaten twenty or so, and inhaled two, just trying to escape them.
Hi there! This is probably off topic but years ago we used to get Oregon Beach Agates by the small bagful. Apparently they were easier to find after big winter storms. Do you know anything about what they are, where they came from and why we don't see them anymore? I grew up rockhounding in the sixties and never really got over it. Thank you!
Those are Sunstone! The scene look particularly green hued for some reason... but the green and red are a play of colors due to the copper in the Sunstone!
I got here very late in the season it was 9° that night that I slept in my van, only stayed there one day and got out of there, need to get back and do more
