1968 Jeepster Commando Build (part 1)

  • 1968 Jeepster Commando build progress. The original Jeepster was in non-running condition, full of rust and missing a lot of original parts when I first brought it home. Over many moons, trials and tribulations the Jeep finally runs and WILL be on the road in 2023!
    The list of build parts are as follows:
    Body: 1968 Jeepster (originally green) now Lunar Yellow
    Engine: '98 305ci vortec chevy small block (chevy 1500 truck) bored .30 over & rebuild
    Drivetrain: Dana 60- 35 spline front ('93 dodge) 14B rear -('77 chevy) rebuild with ARB airlockers and 5.38 gears
    NP205 transfercase, SM465 transmission (with bull low 1st)
    Leaf springs on the front w/ chevy S10 rear leafs, 4-link rear with fox coilovers. TMR & Trailgear parts for johnny joints ect.
    Disc brakes all around, custom CV drive shafts 1410,
    3/4 ton chevy hydroboost, custom radiator & shroud, custom aluminum fuel cell, smitty built winch, LED headlights, turn signals, custom flash on the PCM, 40" tires on steelies,
    I missed a few duplicate photos, but some of the pictures are relics at this point!

    Badass! I’ve had a few long term builds, and I bet you can’t watch or look at pictures and not get anxiety over certain parts of the build.

      Yeah there's definitely been easier and harder parts. When ever I got discouraged, I just put a car cover on it and let it sit for a while. A solution eventually comes for everything

    I loved seeing it at 4WP last month. I couldn't stop drooling every time I walked by it. Top notch craftsmanship.

      Thanks man! one step closer. glad the 4wp guys could setup the gears and lockers for me. Just waiting on drive shafts now...

    What size box did you use for the chassis?

    Very high CG? not to good sideway slope??

      I hope not haha. If I can recall the frame height is 24” to the bottom, full width axles and the wheel base is about 113”
