@@WoWLinryif you buy a hamster, do not, I repeat DO NOT, buy the cutest and fattest hamster you see. Learn from my mistake, lol. In college I bought a cute, fat grey teddy bear hamster on a Wednesday, went home for the weekend on Friday, came back on Sunday and I had 9 hamsters. Mama and 8 babies. I just wanted some company while going to school to study auto mechanics, it was my first time living alone. 🤦♀️ Having her and her babies did help with feeling alone and the depression though. It's nearly 24 years later and I have a husband, 2 teenagers, 4 cats and a dog in my house, so feeling alone is not an issue anymore, and my dog and 1 of the cats that's really bonded with me make sure I never feel truly lonely, lol. I have ADHD along with persistent depressive disorder and finding that little dopamine boosting thing is a struggle as every time I find a new hobby I get obsessed for a while and then it dies away. Nail polish buying and doing my nails is my current dopamine booster, though it's something I loved as a teen too so hoping that it sticks this time. Watching your videos, especially the dupe it videos, have also been a little dopamine boost lately and I sincerely thank you for your content and your shenanigans.
People sleep on LA Colors but let me tell you, they have some great polishes and collections.

Nerdlovesnails here on UA-cam has a video about replacement brushes for LA Colors. I haven't gotten them yet, but I am going to try them.
The issue with MC is that they're dependent on their branding and one of their branding are those types of swatches that they take for their site. So for them to take realistic pics AND post them as their main swatch ain't happening 😂. So they bury them at the end. And they also took down reviewer photos... Kind of pathetic..I've always said about them, Thank goodness their resale value is high. Looking forward to more videos from you! ❤

May was a bigger month for me after not buying anything in March and April. I picked up 5 of the HT Rock Candy polishes and 4 polishes from Orly.

@@WoWLinry My favorite ones you have done were for the Orly Melting Point collection. One I liked from my own stash was trying to dupe ILNP Melody using ILNP Pumpkin Patch topped with HT Encryption Key. It was not a dupe but looked stunning.

I'm sorry you're in that depression battle, those are so hard - but look! You're maintaining uploading and still doing things, that's amazing. You're kicking butt! I got soooo many Mooncat polishes, to the point of where I am NOT buying them until Black Friday (which is hard! I love them so much!) I also purchased the latest collection from Garden Path Lacquers. It's 80s Fantasy themed and the polishes are GORGEOUS. So excited to wear them. I bought the Rock Candy collection plus the shade Spyglass. It was my first ever purchase from the Holo Taco website. Another first, today I made my first Polish pickup purchase and bought the Little Mermaid polish by Chamaeleon Nails, I also bought a cuticle oil pen and acetone additive. I’m officially a nail polish addict 😱. Time for a no buy!

I feel your frustration with official photos not representing what you’re getting! I had an overall good experience with a small brand, but the color looked significantly different than the online swatch. While I ended up loving the color I got, I couldn’t shake the feeling of mild disappointment that it was different than my expectation. Now I am cautious about ordering again, even though I love the formula and had a great customer experience!
Also, L.A. Colors, get quality brushes. I would pay more for that and use the polishes more frequently, hence buying more colors in the future. Please and thank you.
I’ve been dealing with depression & anxiety for years & now going thru menopause 😩 it’s a trifecta of FML! I have actually just started to slow down my buying & hoping to continue but it’s like detoxing from nail mail. My last purchase was a big haul from Cracked for her Memorial sale & got 10 polishes I’ve been wanting on sale so that has me feeling satisfied. PPU today I only ordered 2 when I normally have been ordering 5 so another improvement has me feeling better. Hope you feel better & do 1 day at a time. TFS 😊

Oof the depression and shopping thing- feel that for sure!! My last few years of it have stemmed from digestive health issues so my compulsive shopping happened with food and grocery items, in the hopes that one day I'd be able to eat them all. Well, food expires. 😅 so the dopamine would hit when I bought it, and then dread would set in when I had to toss it. I'm happy to be slowly getting better, and I hope you start to soon as well. ❤ I find that doing free things that still give me dopamine hits are a good way to preoccupy my spending urges, so sometimes I check out too many books at the library in excitement but there's never buying guilt with that one. 😅

I went ham on their sale & placed two orders. The site swatches can't be trusted in several instances but i am overall pleased. And, stupidly, their bottles are my favorite shape.

I bought nothing in May. But I made up for it by purchasing 13 LA colors in June on National Nail Polish Day. At least it was all inexpensive. And it scratched that itch for neons that all these neon releases triggered in me.

Plus the free mystery polish promo that HT is doing right now. I love that you include base coat recommendation and number of coats in your review.
I go through depressive cycles. It sucks. I'm starting to pull out of this one. You've got this! I'm keeping it low buy and trying to stay in a small amount if I do get something. I did cave and bought some Great Lakes lacquer polishes which I've never tried before. Thanks to Caitlin swatches, I ended up buying 4 polishes from them including a brilliant orange I think you'd be into.

I am also done with Mooncat website. I got duped on their sale too! The colors just get me and then I’m so disappointed. But I did get maelstrom!! It’s beautiful.
I actually own fairy dust as well. I used to use it back in the day like over 10 years ago so I bought it again. But it’s definitely subtle once I got the holo taco.
Welp I guess you just gave me a great explanation as to why I have spent so much $$$$$$$ on polish recently. I have depression as well but just had my second surgery for a health issue which has made everything worse. I’m stuck in the house and nothing to do but buy, buy, buy then feel bad, bad, bad. Sigh. I went insane in May. I don't even know why I did honestly. I think I got two from Great Lakes Lacquer, two from HHC, two from Bee's Knees Lacquer, one from Lumen, one from Cracked, one from LynB, and one from Sassy Sauce? So that's a total of 10... It really adds up with the shipping from all those orders, too. This month the only nail polish I wanna get is from the Ethereal drop. But we'll see.

I went a little (ok, a lot) overboard last month. I purchased from Polish Pickup and Mooncat for the first time. I absolutely love all the polishes I got! From Mooncat I got House of Hades, Plankton, and I'm a MF Supernova. plus I got their base coat, smoothing base coat, and top coat.
Then from PPU I got BCB One Giant Leap for Otter Kind, Cadillaquer Calvin, Nailed It Lord Nibbler, Vanessa Molina Guided by the Light, Glisten & Glow glitter grabber, and Curricula top coat.
I am not adding up what I spent because I don't want to know.😂

Oh no, I also got Ultra Hot in the Mooncat sale and that is so disappointing! I haven’t swatched it yet but I was hoping for that bright orange 😢
I’m also annoyed with Mooncat because the first bottle of Blood Moon they sent me was cracked, and then the replacement exploded when I opened it! I really wanted that color but I didn’t want to take the chance of another exploding bottle so I asked for a refund 😢
Mooncat has really made me sceptical - I feel like the swatches are 50/50 accurate. I was SO disappointed with Ultra Hot and Alien Invasion 😢

🙈tectonic shift is my favorite polish from mooncat! lol when I got it last year I wore it like every time I redid my nails (at least one nail on each hand) which is sooooo rare for me. But I also love to layer it with toppers and never wear it alone. It looks so good with the shimmer and unicorn skins from HT.

I'm also clawing my way out of a depression and nail polish has been such a crutch and a blessing for me. I'm with you on Mooncat. I really love a lot of their polishes but I refuse to buy from them without seeing pictures and swatches of people on youtube and instagram that don't come directly from Mooncat. Their pictures just can't be trusted.

I think it looks weird unless it's on a blurring base because it's relatively sheer so it merges with flesh colour and becomes this muddy grass-stain shade.
Appreciate your note about Pangea... that's what I always worry about with dark blue bases... I freakin love them but they always hide shimmers (I think part of it is because dark blues bleed a lot, but probably not in this case).
p.s. My adhd brain also rounds up so that inevitably I will have extra money for that thing I forgot I needed 😅
I've been doing shopping therapy as well this month and shot right through my previously successful low-buy/no buy goals, but trying to rein it back in now. 💪
It looks like Mooncat uses either a blurring basecoat or like a gel foundation layer and it makes their polishes look more opaque than they actually are on natural nails. It's a bit deceptive in their marketing that they don't feature real natural swatches on their site, so if you buy based on their photos, you're disappointed in how the polishes look on your own real nails. It's a shame since they do have beautiful polishes, but are getting a bad reputation for not accurately portraying how those polishes look and leaving customers unhappy with the choices they made based on those photos.

I only bought two from the Mooncat sale, Merkitten and Fake Holo because they are both SO hyped and the swatch photos on the site are gorgeous. I should have known better than to do that because when I opened the package I felt a little meh about them in the bottles. I haven't swatched them yet so maybe I'll change my mind about them when I get them on my nails. But I've purchased half a dozen polishes from them and the only one I've really liked was Mermaid Bait so I think I'll go back to skipping their stuff.
Oh that dopamine hit from shopping made me see myself, I am going no buy until Holo Taco anniversary collection and if I don't LOVE that I won't buy it. Hang in there and keep clawing yourself out, at least you are doing it with pretty nails right!! (I am super jealous you got Maelstrom)

Agree on Mooncat. I didn't want to buy any, but I bought Maelstrom, and I do love it. But I don't like not being able to trust their pictures. Also just don't think I'm their target demographic (which I presume is dark edgy teen... lol).
Can relate on the depression front, too. Can't enjoy the highs in life if we never have lows, I suppose. But it does suck when it drags on so long.

Im in the official Facebook group and i use the search bar to see other people's manicures for certain colors im interested in buying ao i can see what it looks like on other skin tones, lighting, and read how it performed for other people. I think I might go No Buy for the rest of June and July...ive spent waaay too much on polish lately. I only have 10 finger and 10 toes. 😅
I honestly feel like Michelle is taking photos with a phone and phones are notorious for exaggerating colors and the glow. Cuz no matter how many photos i take with my DSLR i never get the same results no matter the lighting, the only time i get similar stuff is phone. I try to avoid Michelle's hand shots cuz very few are accurate and instead look for the swatch pics from actual customers on their Facebook group before getting anything.
Also, same girl, i've just been loading up on dopamine by shopping, which is turning into a problem honestly....

I picked up Mooncat’s Triceratops and Velociraptor as well as Garden of Evil. I’m very happy with them, even if I’ll wear them later in the year. I also just picked up another group from Lurid Lacquer and that should make me no buy for the rest of the year.

I look forward to more dupe-it-out videos! You make those so entertaining, so if a no-buy makes you lean into making more of them, your audience benefits! And, in regards to depression, it goes to show how different our various responses can be, from person to person. When I endure a stretch of it, I completely shrink from the world, isolate myself, sometimes I don't even call my parents. My work suffers, everything is bleak. But look at you, cranking out regular content, joking around on livestreams-- I wouldn't have guessed that you are going through it. I hope you don't find yourself masking too hard. If content creation makes it worse, give yourself a break. But on the other hand, if it gives you something positive to focus on, keep at it, things will improve. Wishing you healing.
As for May, I threw down for the 30% off Cracked sale, picked up ten bottles. That brand is so right for my taste, such silky smooth pearly shimmer formulas, and I get to support a fellow Washingtonian. My favorite of the bunch that I picked up is called The Shag, it's a green, you might like it! It kind of reminds me of one in this video, Alien Invasion, with a golden sheen, but it's more subtle, demure. Maybe that's not your vibe, though lol Although it might be one to reach for when you want green but want to be an elegant lady lol Also I splurged at Deco Beauty and got a bunch of nail stickers in their 25% off sale. My hands are too shaky for painting nail art, but I can cheat with cute stickers!

do you watch/follow kokia faina here on yt? she is funny and quirky and does alot of mooncat swatching and honest reviews. your honesty about life is comforting. hang in there. some things that help me (when i can implement, some days there is no implementing anything) is 1. get in the shower. i will feel better, i know i will. so just do it. easier said than done some days 2. really been trying to implement therapists suggestion of not being so hard on myself, it just fuels the shame which fuels the depression which fuels the inertia. so i just have to yell stop (in my head) give myself a break, and i use the 3 beautiful things method. when i am going on in my head on whatever - stop, look around , find 3 beautiful things. it stops the negative narrative in the moment, grounds me to the actual moment, and lifts my mood/gratefulness. can be anything, blue sky, pretty pattern, kitties, even a colour on a car and especially my nails,...whatever. and a big one for me is the trick to have indoor running shoes, again easier said than done. but when i can, sports bra, brush teeth, lipstick and indoor running shoes, it tricks your brain somehow into moving and getting things done around the house, even when the rest of me is crusty/left over messiness. even if i just put the shoes on without the rest, it makes a difference. the biggest is having my nails done and #365lipstick. i put lipstick on everyday, even when in crusty pjs, hair not washed not going out in public, it just helps. again, somedays it doesnt matter i cant get these done..but those days are less and less with some of these tricks. and fresh air, if its not a walk, even if i just sit outback with my tea. hang in there, your candidness and humour helps out the rest of us more than you know, xo
