Journeyman welder here. I didn't watch the whole vid but what I did watch was very well said and helpful. I am sure you have inspired some of your audience to make the jump, which is great. Welding is the easy part, the design and fabrication takes a life time to learn.

If someone criticizes a word you used is just closed minded. This is an interesting video if you like to make things, I don't care what your skill level is. You can always learn something. Like you said you may do something the 30 year veteran didn't think of or hasn't done in 20 years and got them to rethinking things. Nobody knows it all , if they think they do ,they are just lieing to themselves. I wish I would have found your channel when you started it. You are a spitting image of me about 30 years younger. Only I did not have the open mind that you have. It looks like you had good parenting or guidance somewhere along the line. You are one of the best channels I have seen. You are the ONLY utuber I have seen that actually looks like you are happy doing the work. I will get out of this rabbit hole and just thank you for the video.

GET A AUTO-DIMMING HELMET!!! Even a cheap hobo freight helmet is a new world of welding. Start with free bed frame rails on the side of the road, any cheap 110v welder should do well on this and it should be thick enough that your not burning it up like exhaust pipe. Weld away. Underrated channel keep it up. Just my $0.03.

one thing that will definintely help with the heat in ur container is to paint the outside bright white... the dark color is absorbing heat thus making it hotter inside

Levi - hands down one of the best welding videos I’ve watched (beginner here). Articulate, well thought out, encouraging and overall, a blessing for a beginner. I applaud your candor and sincerity. Your video has been instrumental in getting me off my butt and into the project I’ve put off for way too long - all due to my own reservations about not having done welding before. The tip on using McMasterCarr as a source was outstanding - I’ve used them for a number of years and always found the hardware I never knew existed.
Finally, while I’m not into tattoos myself, I do appreciate those that are well done and the one on your left arm is stunning. Having sailed many years ago, I have a major soft spot for wind, water and sails. Your tat brings all three together in a very beautiful way!!
    Thank you!! John Tunison

Awesome video! Yes having 2 grinders is key to metal working! So far all the welding on my unimog is done by father and friends. The most impressive and insane welding is my steering arm. We joined 2 steering arms and really build up the weld in between them. So cool what you can build with an welder.
I do love to design stuff and think about shape and how strong it needs to be.
After my unimog camper is build I want to build a trailer. So I decided to learn welding for that project 😁

I came across your videos through watching some I'm subscribed to and I'm glad I did. I am now subbed to yours as well. I am fascinated at your presentation and situational awareness and how you totally get the correct point (yours) across to the whole audience and still welcome critique without being offended. I've seen too many youtubers wear their hearts on their sleeves to just get crushed by the few thumbs downers and just quit doing what their desires are. You sir are a very knowledgeable and intuitive person that I can appreciate and am very excited to see,,What's Next. You're doing a very good job all the way around and am proud of your skill set, presentation, teaching ability and being real most importantly. Gods Peace and take care. C~

It's been 25 years since I've done any welding but I've been trying to decide between a MIG or a 3D printer. I think the printer is going to have to wait now. I've got so many things planned for both but a welder will be so much more helpful in general.

I had always wanted to learn to weld and found an opportunity to work for a small fabricating outfit about 3 years ago. Was able to learn from an experienced tradesmen while getting paid to do so. Started with cutting and grinding but eventually progressed to the actual welding as well. Bought the same Lincoln 180 pro mig that Levi has and would def recommend it. I pretty much agree with everything that was said in this video. Bare tools required are a welder, one angle grinder with cutting and flapper discs, an auto darkening helmet, eye protection, and gloves. Budget for some wire, welding pliers, gas, and work boots as well. Harbor Freight is a great resource for those with a tight budget. Decent welder options but more so for the gloves, eyewear, wire, pliers, clamps, etc. not top quality but good enough for the uninitiated.
