I absolutely loved her voice. Music back then was fantastic.
Played this all the time and sang around house as a teen. My dad would shake his head in disapproval!!
I really, really, really loved this song when it came out back in the day. It was saucy and very sexy. Nice reaction.
Me too.
Quintessential mid-70's mellow.
This was on the charts just before my ex-wife and I got Married. She never listened to it long enough to get what she's singing about. My gain. Her loss. My God. We were so young then. Now that Im in my late 60's and hear this song it takes me back to a better Time. Thanks for posting.
Her voice sends chills up and down my spine.
Thanks for doing this one! Brings back great memories. I was a sophomore in high school in 1974. Before disco music took off. All of us teens had a nice free and easy attitude with songs like this. Seems liked we mixed all kinds of music together back then. Makes me smile😉
I have loved this song for more than 40 years. I am also a lover of the California desert. Nothing more beautiful than a real oasis.
This song is so elegantly nostalgic, and full of emotion. And it's really the connection of the two that tears your heart out.
No make up - and so beautiful. Praise the Lord!
Her singing was definitely smoother on the studio recording. This was Maria's biggest hit (and I think her only "hit" record) even though she recorded many, many albums in several music genres.
"I'm a Woman" was also a big hit for her.
Her band opened for the Grateful Dead a few times in '74 and she wound up as a back-up singer in the Jerry Garcia Band a few years later.
She's 76 now and was still releasing albums just a few years ago. She's done big band/swing, children's music, gospel, and a lot of blues. She's been part of the Blues Preservation Project to save heritage Delta blues from the turn of the century to WWII era.
cannot even tell you how happy i am that you reacted to this!!! not enough people do. it is so incredible, and such a classic.
Just a total babe, and what a great groove with this track. On my personal Top 20 Album.
This was good but the radio version was even better. I was in elementary school when this came out. Always liked it. Her voice was different so it drew your attention.
Funny that I was just thinking about this song (for the first time in forever)this evening. Something prompted me to sing a little bit of it to my baby daughter, and then I wondered if anyone had done a reaction video. I was delighted to find that you did. I saw Muldaur perform in a small venue in 1973 or 74. It was a fun show. She has some real chops as a blues singer.
Now there is that 70's fashion I remember... haven't heard this in a long time.
I still have this 45, it is still one of my favorites; this life version doesn't do justice to the LP version.
I disagree, but that’s okay! It’s a great live rendition. I bought the album when it was released so I know it backwards and forwards but this rendition adds color and range to the original.
@@frankiebowie6174i agree.. awesome job on the live
another great voice from the 70's
One of my favorite songs when I was a kid.
What a great love song - the woman telling her man he don't need a harem 'cuz he has her!
Maria Muldaur's voice is unqiue, yet inviting with lsland-like musical vibes. This is a song that paints a musical tapestry with the "Midnight at The Oasis" theme about a romance in the desert. The song has very sassy elements in the lyrics. For example, "Let's slip off to a sand dune, real soon and kick up a little dust,. "You won't need no camel, no no when I take you for a ride," etc. This song brings back great memories of the 1970s! 😊
Oh wow my hubby and I of 46 years were dating when this song came out! Mmmmmmmmmm memories.
This live version helps me appreciate her vocal abilities so much more. I was too young to appreciate this when it was on the radio. It was played too much and I got sick of it. Nice to hear it with fresh ears.
I know 👍🏿
Love her love it one of my.all time favorites of the 70s. So many memories.
Have not heard this song in a very long time...so great...brings back so many memories! Loved your reaction.
So many great songs came out that year! That song was amazing!
I love this song! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
For some reason this brought back a blast from the past in my head lol...Brand New Key by Melanie...so there's another one for ya
The lyrics "I ride my bike, I roller skate, don't drive no car
Don't go so fast, but I go pretty far"
Have Always stuck in my head! Talk about the "Hook" in Lyrics, that one will live Forever LOL!!!
“Brand New Key” is so much fun!
@@TheLemzia I Got a Brand New Pair of Roller Skates You Got a Brand New Key!!
@@TheLemzia I first heard this song when I was five. It's one of those lyrics that stick in your head even as a kid
….. "a nomad known to all". …… Great lyrics.
2023 April 1st.
and still digging this song ..
From 73 ?
That like what ? 50 years ago..???? 😮
YIKES ❗❗❗ And still sounds good ..
Was 10 years old or so when this came out. Loved it then and still do. Although the lyrics made more sense when I got older. Lol. Keep yourself beautiful my dear. Peace.
The lyrics in this song are so good. "send your camel to bed." Wonder what that means....I think we know. Remember this from the 70s when I was a lot younger.
Loved your reaction to this great tune. Yeah total tease - lol. She did back up for many others too and she's STILL recording!
I loved singing this song with my mother when I was younger! loved it then and now!
Love this song. High school days!
You're a bad ass man... you react to the coolest shit... with no discrimination....
This is called heaven music
This song is so nostalgic, and I feel so much emotion, throughout. A great tune, on into forever!
Aww! I used to love hearing this song on late night radio back in the late 70's and the early 80's. I prefer the recorded version because of its added atmosphere and slower take.
Loveeee this song!
Thanks for your reaction. The studio version from her first album is much better than this particular live version.
I actually love this version....probably cause she is a pleasure to watch sing!
love this love this i was 11 years old when this came out
Wow, another song I kicked a heel to when I was a little 17 yr. old slipping into the discotheque to dance the night away. I always loved this song. The inference to the oasis and other details of Middle Eastern culture made me think of (the old even for that time) Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves movies my little romantic self loved as a young child.
Keep up the good work India
Loved that song when I was a kid. Of course being a kid I heard more the desert oasis romantic dreamy part.Today I finally listened to the sexy part "spend a night with me you won't need a harem to satisfy you".
You should react to don’t you feel my thigh by Maria Muldaur.
Don’t you make me high! Love that thing. I worked in a record shop in the early ’70s and got to hear all this great music when it came out. Maria Muldaur may be a “one-hit wonder,” but she has lots of great records.
Always wanted Maria to take me for a ride😁
The Martin 00-18 refers to a really nice acoustic guitar that was there.
The strings really are popping pal 🙂 the music is very cool and her voice is sexy on this song.
It was a hot song in the 70's and still sounds good today
as well as Pillow Talk by Slyvia.
Hip hugger bell bottoms IT'S THE 70'S
yessss
Zipper pulled up with a pair of plyers!
We all Roberta Flack but she did a great duet with Donny Hathaway called Where is the Love.. Don't think there is a video of it but it a beautiful song
I got this song on my Time/Life Sounds of the 70s series CDs.
I'm so glad you chose that song...I love that song. It's unusual and groundbreaking combining jazz and blues and soulful singing.Yes,your right she's acting out being a tease being persuasive and sexy, sassy with her voice. Giving the words and melody a bending and sway.( Hey singing is acting sometimes.)I was lucky I got to see Maria Muldaur in a small club in Buffalo called the Sportsman's Tavern. She was alot of fun to listen to and watch. She later told us that she had a cold that evening but she performed with no vocal problems...A nice woman,a true professional.
A really good song by Maria Muldaur is Richland Woman Blues. You should try that one.
Front row saw Maria M. at a High School Gymnasium back in the day
Jealous! Did she sing “Waitress in a Donut Shop”?
... expand your world w/ a listen to Maria's "Waitress in a Donut Shop" ...
Oh please react to Rita Coolidge's "We're All Alone"... always loved that song. I think you'll like it.
Dear India,
I remember watching a documentary(?) on PBS(?) back who knows when, about the music scene down in Greenwich Village in the early 60s. It seems that Maria was a regular on the circuit back then.
rumor is that prince was obsessed with this song
Melissa Manchester - Midnight Blue
LOVE elephants 🐘 😍🥰🐘...Your elephant on your desk is so pretty...Loved elephants Ever since I saw a documentary at a science center exploritorium years ago and another elephant died on a long walk...all the elephants stopped, were confused, tried to wake their friend up, realized and then cried allot really loudly with their trunks in the air looking up to the sky and also said goodbye with another sound looking at their friend...Elephants are sooooo loving. 😍🥺😍😊☺️😎🤩...
P.S...Didn't mean to make anyone cry, my bad! 😐😋😐
I remember this song it was cute and sexy I don't remember any other song by this singer.
I was going to request this someday. This song had my pubescent self burning a fever when it came out.
😅Right? I was 11 and had it on a 45rpm!
😝
Treat her right .. the commitments 👍🎈
She is now a blues singer
Sounds better on the album rather than a live version. Just better equipment and acoustics in a recording studio.
Good song thanks india
Great song, but to get the full true sound, you should always play the studio version, off the album, IMHO.
Her guitar player wrote this song.
What you can never react to is the 50 years that have gone by. This is never just the song, it is what you were doing 50 years ago.
India, thanks for doing these songs. Naturally they're not all winners but keeping them alive is a good idea. Now, my questions to you. First, how old are you? Next, what are some of the songs that you like. Not necessarily the one's you score but others? Knowing these things will me a better idea of your taste.
The studio recording is much better. 👍 nice chill song.
Used to sing with a jug band. Part of the 60s California music scene.
Have ever loved MM along with Teena Marie etc.
I went to hs w prince...he was obsessed w this song
Atlantic Star with Always Emotions with Don't ask my neighbor.
Back in 1973 this was close to aural porn...but the radio stations got to play it and it kind of opened the musical world after that, especially with an aggressive female lead to the song.
Another big big one hit wonder song. Dont miss her or the song. Oh well. Cant like them all. Hey India, can you take a react to jennifer warnes song RIGHT TIME OF THE NIGHT. or maybe BARRY MANILOW the song EVEN NOW. Thanks kiddo. You the best. On n on to 100k baby
Record is better than live performance
wow, one of my high school fantasy girls. nice :)
An amazing musician. But just one of many that didn't gain popularity during the seventies. I'm going to listen to Janis Ian "A Seventeen" now.
martin 00 18 is a martin guitar!
Try 'Cause we ended as lovers'. Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's jazz club. It will blow you away. X
What a voice Holy $&@#
This song always reminded of those old 1920s Rudolph Valentino desert movies.
One of the sexiest songs ever made...if not, THE sexiest.
Beautiful little song.. Think it was her only big hit.. Love the little jazzy breezy feel. Laid back sounds of early '70s before disco
The studio version is much better. Amos Garrett's guitar solo is legendary!
10+
Good one. How about some Donna Summer?
Martin 0018 is a guitar
Geez I miss India.
Love it. A very sexy song.
I was hoping you'd do this song. The live version is really nice.
Oh the recorded version is so much better. She is missing so many notes. Hi Miss India!
Should have played the studio version.
Her studio performance is so much better than this live performance.
I should look it up before I speak, but I think she may have recorded "Don't You Feel My Leg" . I'm sure someone on here will remember and correct me if I have the wrong singer. It's a fun one!
She did. It's on the same album.
@@tlking4194 yeah, I went straight away to look that up.
Great Song! Love it!!!!
Studio Recording is much better. This is a poor poor version.
