THIS is how you UA-cam! you make a 1 minute video for a tip, not a 10+ minute video with an intro and a vlog and a quick trip to the store and an interview and a review and an outro. good job
Techmoan
Yes, but longer video = more ad slots... $$
Fucking dumb shit humans
Don't forget that even after all that, you don't get anything useful out of them videos lol
lol quick trip to store hahaah
This movie channel I watch will take 1 minute of news and stretch it out for a 10 minute video.
I'm glad that this video continues to help people.
Even 9 year later, this was a great help. Though I ended up having to use screws on mine! Panasonic had some bad plugs.
This video saved me from returning my banana plugs!!!
I was looking so long on how to connect banana plugs to the av amp! Thanks!
Does this apply to speaker terminals?
Yes!! Sooo damn useful!! you rock Techmoan.
The perfect video. No fuss. No preamble. No five minute story about how this tip was handed down from your ancestors.
I had no idea what a banana plug was, or how to connect speaker cables. I'd never had separate speakers before, but that's what the store gave me. I went from totally ignorant to knowing exactly what to in a minute. Great.
I've had my AV receiver for four years, and have only JUST realised those were caps. I've had banana plugs sitting around for four years, waiting for an upgrade. No need. I love you, Techmoan.
Thanks, 10 years after you posted it, I found it and now I know.
Over seven years have passed, and your video has not lost one iota of utility. I had not fallen back from using plugs for years until getting a new receiver, and it took me about 15 UA-cam videos and four articles of wheel-spinning before your video hammered home the basic facts that I had forgotten from 5 or 6 years ago. There is a lot of trash content out there, but you sir are not contributing to that pile. Thank you for the concise, complete and coherent instructions!
Techmoan, thank you for posting a simple and concise video explaining this. You are a shining example of someone who gets TO THE POINT.
Jim Heimerl You think that would be explained in the directions of the receiver
9 years later and this video is still very useful to new People who are starting a new Hobby in Home Theater Gear. 😁👍
try 12.. lol
The most helpful UA-cam video I've ever watched. A true revelation. All these years, I've been using the method of connecting the bare speaker wires through the little opening of the binding post which is excruciatingly painful and torturous process. Im in heavens now!! Why this helpful information can never be found in the av receivers users manual is a crime. Thanks for sharing this info. God bless you.
Almost returned a set of banana plugs but this great video saved it, thank you.
Also to confirm Onkyo has the same thing...
Onkyo and pioneer are the same company now.
Exactly same! I felt so dumb!
My receiver got a one star review because it disgusts me that there is ZERO mention in the manual that I will have to order paper clips from Amazon in order to use banana plugs with this receiver. Might send it back. They are not getting away with this sort of shit - we keep letting them and they KNOW this.
No problem, that's why I made this...just passing on some knowledge I'd picked up along the way.
Omg your a champ ! 12 years in the making ! thanks for the video
Techmoan -- you just added years to my life! I've been battling with connecting five speakers to my Yamaha AV receiver and it has been driving my crazy. Your short, concise videos gives me all the info I need to convert to banana plugs. THANK YOU!
@vladigor03 Glad to help. The lugs are there for something to do with safety and avoiding electric shocks (presumably not really a problem on relatively low power AV amps). I don't think the lugs are compulsory in all countries - but I'm guessing the manufacturers are covering their backs by keeping quiet about the ease of removal.
Amazing! So much work saved by watching your 70 second clip. I'm setting up an 11.2 AV configuration, I bought super duper cable and quality plugs. Being a man with the 'don't read the manual' attitude I was cursing my lovely new Pioneer amp when it wouldn't take the plugs. You've saved the day! Thanks!
These lugs have been sitting in my Denon 3805 for almost 14 years. Only now when I need to buy new cables have I discovered banana plugs and their ease of use. Many thanks and subscribed.
Man from the future thanks you most earnestly. I was seriously thinking if I need a new receiver to benefit from my new, expensive, cables!
ive had Yamaha products for years now and ive always thought this couldnt be done.im into my hifi jewelry and thought it was a total disaster when it come to the yamaha all my other hifi appliances have hi end connectors except my yamaha.but now thanks to you and a very simple fix youve made my day. many thanks
Literally have watched like 20 videos until I found yours and is GOLD! Extremely concise, illustrative and in less of a minute I got rid of my doubts. Thanks a lot!
Still helping people in 2021, ten years later! I was there wondering why the banana plugs I'd just got for my Yamaha amp wouldn't fit!
Your delivery is so different now. A lot more animated!
I used to record late at night, trying not to wake up the missus.
Purchased a Yamaha RX V677 to replace a RX V640 and the binding posts are different...had to strip the wire as you said. Your tip is priceless!! Thank you.
Quick, concise and to the point! Bravo guy! Too many people would turn this into a bloody mini series!
Technoman, my hero!! I´ve tried so many times to find out how to connect the banana plugs to my Yamaha receiver, I bought all sorts of banana plugs to no avail. How simple it was. Great video!
I realised this a week ago after owning a marantz for 15 years and getting it back out of storage recently.
Your video confirms my suspicions on using banana plugs. Thankyou!
OMG wait wtf? after 25 years I didn't realize you could do this on the Yamaha av amps and it has always baffled me - thank you if you are still here?
Thanks for the tip all the way from Australia. Saved me returning banana plugs for the 3rd time!
Genuinely one of the most helpful videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. Was just about to rip off my banana cable tips to attach to my new AV amp. THANK YOU.
OMFG, I just got the RX-V683 form Yamaha, did all my own cabling with banana plug ends and went to plug in and ran into this problem. Thank you so much again!
Things you learn on your 35th birthday. This was very helpful, thank you.
AT LAST!!! I lost all my life without knowing this!!! Thank you!!
I had no idea. I've always dreaded moving my receiver because of the pain of reattaching the speaker wire to the binding posts. I found this tip incredibly useful. Thanks!
Just the tip I needed to solve my issue. So I am the living proof that this is still relevant to some, 10 years later... Thanks!!
WTF! This is the best info ever! I can't believe I just found this out, thank you so much! Why don't the manufacturers just leave them OUT!
WOW !!! Where were you all this time? ...giving such simple hifi tips... that I needed so many years ago?
Oh. You were already here. So many years ago 😅
BIG THX from Stuttgart, Germany
Thank you so much. I was going nuts trying to feed the banana plugs into the wire feed. Didn't make sense, so I feeble tried top plug in the back, but it wasn't viable. Your video answered the question quickly and easily. Thank you!
You are still schooling us , thanks for the tip, tip of the year
You saved my banana terminals, I was ready to cut one side, thank you man!
You saved my ass a decade later. I was losing my mind trying to figure out how to plug in banana clips to my Cambridge AXA35. It took me way too long to find this!
This video is what, 9 yrs old? and still helped me. Kudos to the OP, a useful tip is always a useful tip all through these years
OMG I've had my (Pioneer VSX 2021) amp for FIVE YEARS and only just saw/learnt this. Thank you, will SAVE ME HOURS.
Got my new amp today and legitimately thanks for this video. I'd read it supported Banana plugs but didn't know about the lugs. On closer inspection my haggard old Sony did too so now I feel like an idiot! Thank you for the help!
I have just started making a few UA-cam movies and enjoy watching your contents. Your content is always so beautifully filmed, I have no idea how you make everything a work of art. Thanks. PS I have a puppet to.
Thanks. It mostly down to using a tripod and decent lighting. Good luck with the channel.
Thanks for the advice and kind reply - Regards Chris
this was a relief for me like 10y later of its publication - thank you very much.
I just bought my first AV receiver amp, an old but pristine Denon 1907. An absolute bargain, superb sound. The speaker connectors look the same as the vid so I was quite pleased to discover this little tip. Nice one.
Was totally unaware about these little plugs, and I own a Yamaha RX-V479 AVR amp, I found a hairpin and fashioned the end into a hook just as in your paper clip idea and hooked them all out, thanks for enlightening me!
Yes I am, although once when in Chicago a chap thought I was Australian, which to Australians and British would be impossible accents to mix up.
Thanks for this tip. You have saved me a lot of time and head scratching wondering how to connect banana plugs to my new amp. Cheers!
Omg! This is exactly what I needed to know! I have banana plugs on all but four of my pioneer lx303 and I thought that was it. I had resigned to bare wire for those plugs. Now thanks to you I can use banana plugs on them as well. So pleased.
Like most people who have commented, I am dumbstruck. Four decades of not knowing this and all the foul language and tantrums that could have been avoided if I had known this. So simple yet wonderful. Just like your amazing youtube video. Thank you so much. This worked on a Marantz receiver by the way. (current model)
A moment of simple genius at 40 seconds in... was trawling the internet to find a banana to wire converter, only to see this guide and realise these were mini-plugs that could be removed (I took them out with a twisted hair clip). Thanks for the superb post.
A simple thanks is fine. Glad to be of help.
Thanks. This was such a useful tip! I wanted to use banana plugs but kept looking for a smaller size because I didn't realize you had to pull out the insert. Again, thanks very much!
Whoa, I didn't know this was a thing! I'd relegated my extra plugs to the bottom of my drawer and only used them for the speaker side. Thanks for the tip :)
Works like a charm on a Yamaha RX-V681. Thank you so much for the tip!
Thank you!! My husband and I almost returned a pair of perfectly good plugs after trying to google and figure this out forever.
I spent ages looking for an 'Adaptor Plug'! Yes, they're available, but a rainy day and youtube brought me to you. I never knew there was the little insert. Such a great tip, thank you. :)
I usually use a wood screw, one twist is usually enough to get the plugs out.
I am gonna have to try something like this - my receiver got a one star review because it disgusts me that there is ZERO mention in the manual that I will have to order paper clips from Amazon in order to use banana plugs with this receiver. Might send it back. They are not getting away with this sort of shit - we keep letting them and they KNOW this.
Brother u saved my life brought some speakers thought I would have to send them back Spent decent money on them so thankyou ur a life saver
Thanks. I used a baby pin since it was easier to comeby at that time, made the same bend you made with the clip and it worked flawlessly.
@Kobei Sorry, I really don't know. I bought these from an eBay store a few years ago.
Brilliant! Recently just purchased a Pioneer VSX-1131 which had lugs in the binding posts. Hadn't used banana plugs before so thought i'd try them out, then discovered they didn't fit, however once the lugs were removed as demonstrated here everything fits perfectly.
Best hint I have seen for Yeeears on YT. And straight to the point, no BS. Two thumbs up!!
At last the answer. No one else seems to make this clear. Thank you.
Did not know we can remove the center plug to put in banana plugs, thank you!
Thanks for the video, helped me a lot. I have broken binding post on my Denon receiver, just wont turn anymore, so i cant fasten the speaker cable in it. This spared me the repair, and just made connecting everything so much easier!
Thank you for this tip! I suspected this was true but was looking for confirmation before purchasing banana plugs
Just ordered some banana plugs and the video helps big time as I’ll need to do what you did on my Yamaha receiver and would not have known without see your video thanks heaps
Thanks very much! Quick, to the point. Very useful video on a matter that not many of us know.
Thank you very much for your tip.I was struggling to get my Yamaha V375 system to work. Your tip made all the difference.
at last a no nonsense straightforward instructional clip with all the info i reqired in a few seconds , been fed up with the tech tips from the ' if it takes a man a week to walk a fortnight brigade thanks bro much appreciated
jim
I was a bit sceptical but copied your method & achieved success on my Onkyo network cd receiver. Banana plugs are much better than bare wires, thank you.
Brilliant!!..So helpful,so easy if you know how..Thankyou Sir...After a real struggle i can now breath again....
Thanks for the video, simple and to the point. The advice work a treat on my new Japanese receiver, I can now use banana plugs - awesome
Thank you for the great info. tried to fit BP's to my last Onkyo amp but had exactly this problem. Just attached them to my new Yamaha amp now thanks to this tip.
Great video. Simple to understand. Used the method on my Denon Amp and worked without issue. Thank you.
Best tip I have seen for quite a while ; thank you very much for sharing. Really straight forward.
Thanks a ton! Worked flawlessly on my Pioneer VSX-919.
The hardest part of it was finding a paper clip… :)
Thanks again!
Still helping people into the next decade. Thank you!
Binding post are great if the manufacturer follow the rules on how to mount them. They are supposed to be mounted with 3/4 inch centers. If they are you can use a dual banana plug for each speaker pair of wires. However some companies ignore this standard thinking that everyone will use bare wires or spade lugs.
Thanks a ton! I was really banging my head to get these fixed...
Thank you very much for this really helpful tip. Worked perfectly for my new Yamaha AV receiver.
Thank you. Didn't want to start messing around with the posts unless I was sure the middle bit was a removeable plug!
This video was exactly what I needed. Thank you!
Wow. Never knew this. . Hooking the wire the other way gets really tight and congested...thanks!!!
I've just searched and every picture of the rear of the RX-V735 that I've found through Google image search has either standard Banana Plug connectors or ones like mine where they are just blocked with a plastic plug which needs removing.
That’s an awesome tip! Why Yamaha would put those plugs in and make you thread the cable through the binding post is beyond me. Much appreciated.
Good tip. To fine tune it: the obvious caveat - use good quality banana plugs. There are several styles and the variables are (1) Material (2) Design (3) Solder or set screw. For materials use bananas that have a high proportion of copper (there are even silver ones!). The point behind this is that you want a 'continuity' in materials. Ideally this would be 'copper all the way'. Brass will work of course but the best signal will have a higher proportion of copper. Design: The so-called Z plugs are better as they have a much higher contact area. Solder or set screw. I am a believer that connection your wires to the banana plug via set screw is better but there are others with a different view. For my part I don't understand why you would add another material (ie the solder) in the audio chain.
Second tip. Whatever method you choose you should regularly clean the wire for oxidation. A contact cleaner in a spray can will do but Caig's Deoxit is the experts choice. Some say every six months. No harm in that but I say about once very 2 to 3 years.
Finally, as another option you may consider using 'Spades' instead of bananas. In theory there is a better grip compared to even good bananas but they are not as convenient.
Awesome trick man! I was getting really confused as to how to do this
ARGH! I wish I'd known this last night, before I spent 2 hours struggling to insert 3mm monster cables into my shiny new Marantz's binding posts!! Thanks :-)
Very useful post. Thanks very much. I thought I was going nuts - and starting to swear - until I thought let's search on t'internet and up pops you with this gem ! I now know what I need to do. Million thanks mate :)
just the tip I needed,as ive just bought some new cables and they have spade and banana plugs and was wondering how to attatch them...................and it worked fine ........thanks
Thanks for the tip on banana plugs, you've helped me out big time.:)
+jayray104 Glad I could help - just spreading this useful information I was given years ago.
Wow. You are the best :) YAMAHA HTR3069 says it takes banana plugs, but I had no idea how to do it.
No exaggeration, best tip ever - so simple, thanks for this. I know there was some daft EU directive on these things being filled but thought there would be more to it. Cheers for an exceptionally easy way to remove these annoying things ;)
Oh, wow! You may have just helped me solve the problem with my Kenwood KA-9100 integrated amp's speaker terminals. Thanks@
Awesome tip, thanks. Super helpful! We just had a mini meltdown here not seeing obvious banana plug holes on our avr.
Very useful tip and quick to the point. Thank you Techmoan!
Ahhhhh ... paperclip! That's the secret. Thank you Sir ... yes, this video is still helping people!
Thanks for the info on this quick and easy to understand video. Just what I needed
