I love when the dollar tree has gardening supplies, it's not always great deals but sometimes there's a cool selection. I got some really thick plastic pots there that are definitely comparable to the $10 ones at home depot. The seeds are cool too, 4 packets for a dollar. There's less seeds in each packet but just for a little home gardening it's nice to build a variety of common staples or just some pretty flowers to spread randomly.
@@epicgardening My dollar tree actually has 3 sizes of terracotta pots all throughout the year online.. but only in spring summer in store.. 2.5inches are in packs of 3. Rite aid and Walgreens always has good pots also . And they always go 50-70% off . That's where I normally go for mine . Oh and they have drainage holes in them too !!!
Hands down my favorite place to get pots is the thrift store. The local thrift store always always has tons of brass/copper urns and bowls. They're the look I use in the living room. But also tons of ceramic pots for $4-$8
Friendly FYI: The ones without a drainage hole aren't pots, they're planters. You would insert the potted plant (presumably still in the grower's plastic cheapo pot) into the planter. You wouldn't put soil directly into a planter as you would with a pot. The advantage of planters is that you can sort of mix and match and move plants around within different planters and things don't have to be as messy for people who aren't into transplanting. You take your store bought plant still in it's container and pop it into the planter, no fuss no muss. Planters also don't have a saucer of any kind where pots generally do. You'll have to mismatch a saucer to use a planter as a pot (assuming you can drill a hole in the base), or as you pointed out, water very carefully. Easier to pop that grower's pot into a planter and let excess water seep out of into the planter where it will dry quickly, (or where you can spill off any excess). Great video, thanks.
Right? I bought a beautiful pot from ross. When I saw 9.99 ,I did a double take because every ceramic pot I've seen at Lowe's, walmart, home depot that size and quality was at least $24. Don't even bother with target's over priced ass pots. I'm just waiting for this shut down to be over so i can go buy myself all the nice pots at every Ross near me.
I agree with using pots without holes as cover pots. Just take your plastic pot out of the cover pot, water and return to the cover pot. If you put a hole in the pots with no holes then either you need to leave them outside or ruin the look by putting a saucer that doesn’t go with the decorative pot when you need to take them inside.
Great place to buy pots is Goodwill. You just have to keep checking to see what they get in. Especially for plant gifts since everyone likes different colors and types. You find all sorts styles and colors and for great prices.
@@Jkcreswell , exactly. You can texturized them and add designs on them with flour paste and sand then paint. You wont be able to tell they are cheap plastic. I love the ones he got tho. Totally my style.

Garage sales and Thrift Stores are where I get all of mine. I got three pots for $2.50 yesterday, and used 50 cents worth of paint, baking soda, and jute to transform them into really unique beauties last night. Fun!
You could get the plastic Potts from dollar tree, pot your plants in there and put it in the decorative once form Txmaxx, so no time lost to put drainage holes in them
You can drill holes but can also put a plant that's in one of the plastic, nursery pots inside a pot with no holes and it will drain into the pot. (Especially good for outdoor plants for the season.)

I have one... I take the pot to the kitchen and water it from the faucet and I have to tilt the pot to spill the excess water from the attached plate, and wait for a minute or two to spill again, twice more. It's more work indeed. I think it's alright for plants that don't mind soggy soil.
Great video! I love to repurpose found items and thrifted items and use them as planters/pots. Vintage soup tureens, galvanized buckets, vintage bread baking bowls, ceramic vases, pitchers, etc. You have to get creative with drainage issues and sometimes drill holes, but it’s worth it.
Don't worry about drainage holes in pots. The best way to be able to transfer your plants from smaller to bigger pots is to plant it in a plastic pot that fits within your ceramic pot. This way there's an internal way to catch extra water. Then you just pour it out of the bottom container pot if you've overwatered your plant. Also, being in plastic pots helps delay the time between waterings. Of course, having general plant knowledge and familiarity of time between watering depends on a lot of factors. Daily light level, temperatures, size of pot, type of plant. Yes, there's nothing really easy about growing plants, but it's not rocket science either! It's mostly about experience.
I volunteer at a St. Vincent store and you can buy pots and statues from 10 cents to $5 😊 I seen same rabbit at Menards for $14.99 that was $1.00. Check those places out because that money helps with food and rent, etc for people. 👍
The ones without drainage holes are cache pots to hold a slightly smaller pot with holes. Just pull out the interior pot to water then reinsert in the cache pot with no worries of leakage. The ones with attached bottom tray are harder to keep clean
I love using the Dollar Tree pots as cache pots! And also for my hanging plants, I don’t like hanging ceramic because it’s very heavy and I’m scared it’ll break either the ceiling or it’ll fall and break lol.
Yeah very nice pots and flowers. Your right I love shopping at tjmax because it’s affordable price and lots of great item’s you can pick. Thank you for sharing and giving love and support.

I only use pots in the yard, no houseplants for me. You can also make beautiful bird water saucers using a large leaf and concrete mix.

Marshall's, TJ Maxx and Homegoods are owned by the same company so the prices are usually similar for pots. Sometimes I see the same pots in all the stores. I am surprised they charged you for the broken pot. People are always breaking glasses and what not at Homegoods here without getting charged.

Dollar tree is good for mini terracotta pots, trays, and for seedling pots. In the candle section, there are also good glass and ceramic mini pots that make decorative cover pots. The plastic pots are good for orchids if they are transparent and you can add a lot of holes to the sides (diy) for air circulation. I also like Daiso’s garden section. It’s a small selection but they have cute stuff that isn’t always common in the US
I'm so glad I watched this video. I bought one pot from Home Depot for $34.88. After watching this video, I went to my TJ Maxx and found 4 gorgeous pots for $34.88. Can you imagine how fast I returned that one pot back to Home Depot? MINUTES!!
The end of the video when all the mist came in lol.. reminded me of watching one of those gardening channels where its all dedicated to the one specific plant.
I would never even think of these places for pots, great video! You always think Home Depot or a Garden center. It is so cool you think of all aspects of gardening, and try to save us money. Thank you
Goodwill is one place; another is At Home. But beware - if you buy a light-colored pot like white or beige or something - if it's matte finish - I would highly recommend sealing it on the inside. I bought a really cool white with grey lines on it that developed brown and yellow streaks as I continued to water the plant due to the water seeping through the pot.
Lindsay H. Ollies is hands down the best place, so many interesting pots with a huge variety of shapes and sizes, AND STILL CHEAPER THAN ALL THESE PLACES, ugh love it.
I get pots from Dollar Tree, but I go to the bucket and wastebasket section, so you get bigger pots that work just fine for gardening, just drill some holes in the bottom for drainage. You can spray paint them to make them look more like pots or glue some of Dollar Tree's gemstones around the pots. Other than that, thrift stores have tons of them, or if you're on Facebook, and SOS for "Anyone have any old planters they're not using?" will usually get you more than you will ever need. I use tall laundry baskets for composting because of the big holes..... You just have to think outside the box. And speaking of boxes, I once needed one more planter for strawberries and didn't feel like going back to the store, so I Just put a bag of potting soil in a big box, sprinkles the seeds in and the box held up for the whole season. Outside of course. It wasn't pretty, naturally, but the strawberries were delicious and the box was great for the compost the following year.
I work at Goodwill, and that is where I get many of my pots. There is one problem, however, and that is that many of them are not literal pots, so you'll have to get creative when it comes to drainage. I opt to either nail drainage holes into a metal container, drill them or add a drainage layer with aquarium gravel and window screen BUT you get a unique, one of a kind pot to give your plants character.
I love adorable footed pots that don’t have holes in them. I just use a smaller plastic container inside of it so that the pot itself acts as a saucer... therefore avoiding ugly trays.
Hey, I was at Goodwill today and bought a wicker laundry basket for $3 and a good sized wooden box for $3. I’ll line the basket with landscaping cloth to retain the soil and drill holes in the bottom of the wooden box. Thrift stores can be a great place to find planters.
I actually work at a Marshall's store and they are pretty much the same as the TJ Maxx (were from the same parent company) and I'm never disappointed in the selection and prices. However, HG does have higher prices for those sorts of things so I almost never buy pots from them unless I find a good clearance item.
Walmart has also stepped up their game in the pot Dept. I've gotten some really good ones from there, even though their selection is not as large as TJ Maxx or Home Goods. Home Goods is expensive in general, those buggers 🤣
The key to buying planters is waiting till the end of summer (August/September). Huge markdowns @ Marshall’s, TJ Max & Homegoods. If you can find planters in the winter they are usually cheaper as well. Mid to End of August is the biggest markdowns.
You can paint the DT ones, if you don’t like the color. Make paper clay ornaments with a mold and attach them. Then seal. Have you tried ROSS and Ollie’s for pots?
Perfect timing. I am in the market for large pots right now. I need 17 inch wide planters and I m looking at $100.00 for a white ceramic pot with a hole. I need large pots for large plants!
All of those pits are very expensive bro. I get my pits at the dollar store for a dollar each. They are made out of hard plastic, pretty good stuff and cheap af. There's lots of sizes, I got 2.5 gallon pots, 2, 1.5, 1.2 , 0.9 etc. Fit for all plants. When you grow 40 different vegetables, and when half of that needs pots, 15$ per pot is a lot... I agree they are a lot nicer, but the dollar ones are very cost effective.
I found some nice pots at Ross yesterday with holes. If they don’t have holes you can pot them in those cheaper plastic containers with holes and use the nice ones as cover pots.
Can't believe he actually paid for it. I broke something at TJ Maxx once and the lady told me it happens all the time, it wasn't a big deal, and even the employees break things so not to worry about paying for it. The people at the checkout line should have known better.
I definably have gotten some good pots from marshalls, Tj Maxx, home depot, amazon, wish, target, kohl's, and dollar tree. For me, pot heaven, especially for bigger pots (centerpieces), is the At Home store. No matter the season there will be a huge section for just pots, most with drainage holes as well. It is all affordable and most of them you can get in sets if you want to.
Last year we travelled from NB to Maine for our anniversary. Went to dollar tree and came home with 6 huge pots. I wish dollar tree was a lot closer. Nice finds there.
You should try Marshall’s. They have the best prices by far. Big and cute pots for $9.99 smaller ones for under $7.99. I have found some very unique and interesting finds there.
Dollar Tree does have nifty little three-packs of 2" (I think) terra cotta pots. The drainage holes are tiny, but I haven't had any issues so far. I use them for baby succs, gifts, etc.
The ones without drainage holes are called cache pot and drilling is fine but you could put a plastic nursery pot in them and remove it to the sink for watering before returning to the cache pot.
Thrift stores are my go to for pots but I went to a Dollar General in January and they had just put out their spring stuff and they had a great variety for reasonable prices. 🥰

Walmart and big lots has some nice pots too.
Thank you
Here to save you some coin!
You may want to check out Ross or even 99cent store. I just picked up a bunch of pots at the 99cent store. Thanks for sharing!
Good tip!!!
If you ever visit Florida during spring or summer you should find an Ollie’s store:) pretty clay pots with drainage for cheaper than all those finds
At Home has alot of well priced pots too. Tons of sizes!
I'll add to the list!
When you lifted the pot with the attached saucer without saying first it was attached, my HEART
Ollie’s gets really nice pots at great prices!
I just potted two orchids together and thought to myself “ why does one do this” thanks for the validation!
Hey Kevin , im having my house plants dry out like crazy up here in the desert. Do you think using some pots without draining would help?
I love adorable footed pots that don’t have holes in them. I just use a smaller plastic container inside of it so that the pot itself acts as a saucer... therefore avoiding ugly trays.
Those are some nice looking pots. I just go to Rona or Home Hardware and grab terracotta pots.
Hey, I was at Goodwill today and bought a wicker laundry basket for $3 and a good sized wooden box for $3. I’ll line the basket with landscaping cloth to retain the soil and drill holes in the bottom of the wooden box. Thrift stores can be a great place to find planters.
Yes, I bought 7 of those pots from tj max. I lost my mind. Tfs.
I use 5 gallon bucked and drill holes. Makes it easy to add drip system
Cool plants and plant pots. Like the one with the black lines!
I actually work at a Marshall's store and they are pretty much the same as the TJ Maxx (were from the same parent company) and I'm never disappointed in the selection and prices. However, HG does have higher prices for those sorts of things so I almost never buy pots from them unless I find a good clearance item.
Home Goods, Marshall's , and TJ Maxx - all sister stores!
Do Ross, Target, and World Market next! Loved this video! Very helpful for my future plant pot buys(:
Great call!
Ooo yes. Nice lineup
I like to use things like laundry bins, trash cans for holding plants.sometimes I'll look in alleys for some treasure finds.
Walmart has also stepped up their game in the pot Dept. I've gotten some really good ones from there, even though their selection is not as large as TJ Maxx or Home Goods. Home Goods is expensive in general, those buggers 🤣
Yeah HG was $$$!
Ajá, Like if they were made of gold or something 🙈
The key to buying planters is waiting till the end of summer (August/September). Huge markdowns @ Marshall’s, TJ Max & Homegoods. If you can find planters in the winter they are usually cheaper as well. Mid to End of August is the biggest markdowns.
Did you drill holes in the pots with the legs? You found some STRIKING deals! I will be checking out TJMaxx...😀😎🤗
I'll be doing a video on drilling!
You can paint the DT ones, if you don’t like the color. Make paper clay ornaments with a mold and attach them. Then seal.
Have you tried ROSS and Ollie’s for pots?
T.J. Maxx is indeed a fantastic place for pots! They have some great designs.
"The raw amount of pots here (at Homegoods) is blowing my mind"
Hobby Lobby: "hold my beer"
Yeah but Hobby Lobby's owners are awful.
Yeah, no thanks.
Idk if there's hobby lobby in SD. We have Michael's
I’ll never shop at HL.
Yeah the cache pot method :)
Ross is a great place some times.
I bought those same legged pots from TJ Maxx a year or so ago. Put them on my banister...love them
Literally you touching all these pots one handed is giving me so much anxiety 😅 then you broke one 🥴😂
Can't believe he actually paid for it. I broke something at TJ Maxx once and the lady told me it happens all the time, it wasn't a big deal, and even the employees break things so not to worry about paying for it. The people at the checkout line should have known better.
Big lots has some great prices too. Bought a bunch last year trying to sell a few of my propagated plants. Still have more to go and repotting.
What was actually in that first hanging pot? You said watermelon peperomia but I think you just said that in error.
Correct - Watermelon BEGONIA not Peperomia. Pellionia repens
Big lots has them really cheap!!
Thank you! Hadn't thought to check Big Lots!
Not the big lots I went to
Marilyn Jenkins where I live, the prices were $15-20 and they were not that big either
I like buying Pyrex pie plates for plant drip trays. Usually available at Goodwill or Salvation Army Thrift stores.
Tjmax and home goods are the same company.
And Marshalls
True. It’s too bad that they treat their employees so badly that I won’t shop there. Some of those pots looked pretty interesting.
Last year we travelled from NB to Maine for our anniversary. Went to dollar tree and came home with 6 huge pots. I wish dollar tree was a lot closer. Nice finds there.
Like if TJ Maxx is too expensive for you
You should try Marshall’s. They have the best prices by far. Big and cute pots for $9.99 smaller ones for under $7.99. I have found some very unique and interesting finds there.
Aye, you’re making me dizzy.
For sure!
Thrift stores are my go to for pots but I went to a Dollar General in January and they had just put out their spring stuff and they had a great variety for reasonable prices. 🥰
