  • Growing orchids on outside trees is possible if you live in warm climate. I will show you how to attach orchids onto a tree. I will show you real examples of orchids mounted on trees. We all know that our favorite orchids naturally grow on trees. Many people live in warm subtropical and tropical climates. They plant orchids in their garden, like we do for example tulips. But not in pots, but on trees. Indeed, for epiphytic orchids to grow attached to something, to some kind of support, this is their usual state. How is it done. I'll show you using a simple store-bought phalaenopsis orchid as an example. I will need a thick and sturdy cotton or linen thread, support material, and a suitable tree. It is better to try to plant the orchid in a place where there is a fork, trunk and branch for example, to provide a large surface for the roots, but this is not necessary. To create temporary support in warm countries, bark from palm trees is used, and in cooler climates, it is better to use fresh or dried moss. By the time the orchid has attached its roots to the bark of the tree on which you want to graft it, the cotton thread and bark and moss may already decompose and there will be no need for them. #orchids #OrchidsForBeginners #OrchidsCare #phalaenopsis #PhalaenopsisOrchids #epiphytes #orchidaceae #orchidroots #orchidrepotting #phalenopsis #orchidsneverdie #growingorchids

Do the flowers last as long as the same duration as we keep it in shades?

Hey Classy Flowers! Great video, thanks for posting it. I just heard about this and I'm thinking I might try it my indoor greenhouse. You stated, in cold climates attaching an orchid to a tree near the street in not desirable for obvious reasons... I'm not certain I know what those reasons are. Lol. Hoping you might be able to clarify for me. Thank you!

Our country is insane!. During the summer its so hot like 24 degrees, to me thats hot! lol cant stand much hotter Like Australia, its even more hotter. But we have no O Zone so the sun rays are full blast in your face lol..... But our Winter season is very cold it can reach 4 degrees during the midnight hours on the warm side of New Zealand. So this plant may not survive during all seasons. I wouldn't mind waiting a few years for my Dracaena to reach adult hood or buy a ficus Tree indoors and run this beautiful orchid inside. I think its doable :)

Hot is actually good the only thing is you need moisture. If ur concerned abt growing them outside you can grow them under shady plants w lots of leaves to offer some coverage or you can try watering more frequently when it’s cooler so they have a chance to absorb more water faster before it evaporates

Mine has been attached to the tree for years now and the roots go from top to bottom of the trunk, but the plant doesnt seem to be growing and hardly ever blooms. I bought orchid fertilizer but nothing seems to get the plant to prosper. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Probably hibernating on CAM photosynthesis, not enough energy to bloom, your orchid simply on “energy-saving mode”. Change the environment: more light, increase humidity and temperature. To start blooming orchids need to accumulate sugar first by switching to normal C3 photosynthesis.

@@Classyflowers Thank you for replying. Well, the roots extend to the top of the tree, and to the bottom. How would I move it without killing it? I dont think it's just hibernating because it's been years.
