You had to see us when we were developing game, even small feature as "stand and fight" ability took so much effort, I made team stand like bodyguards and one man in the middle as he was a general, just to explain what i wanted from them, also had an idea that one bodyguard uses foldable chair, puts it down for the general, and goes back to formation but small details like this were scrapped because we were short in time
Guard mode is also useful for missile units manning the walls. If enemies climed up the wall, not the whole defending missile unit will leave the wall to repell the climbers, instead they stay in position and keep firing, while the section with contact to climbers gets into meele fight.
Fun fact: Yari square was supposed to be available for yari samurai after you research Spear Expertise. But either due to a bug or the devs forgetting to enable it, it was never added and the mod is a "patch" for that. Also Yari square on yari samurai is great for pike and shot tactics, with yari samurai in Yari square in the front and matchlocks in the back. Unlike yari wall Yari square protects from all sides so if someone flanks they wont get a morale penalty and wont take lots of damage compared to if you arranged yari wall into a square like shape.
other useful patching mods: fixing hattori and tokugawa ninjas (they are supposed to be better then their base version but instead they just have 8 less ammunition) and resetting ship health (for no reason years after gold-edition release they changed the ships health so it is now almost impossible to sink ships in vanilla S2 with cannons)
The ship-based variant of warcry is different and obscenely powerful. I made the mistake of having a rank 7 (if I remember correctly) Sengoku Bune board a rank 0 Medium Bune. All those massive stat gains from experience were nullified and then some when the enemy activated warcry. I don't remember the exact stats but I think melee attack went from 26 to 10 and all melee defense was removed.
also a tip for Ship combat: by unlocking the bomber ship (first or second tech) you make ship battles much more interesting (you get mines) and while all those Ship battles might seem tedious: keep in mind that oyu can use them to farm high level generals
@maxmustermann-zx9yq firebomb koboya really is a game changer for naval battles. Just make sure you distract enemy ships with other units first because they are short ranged and delicate.

Warcry during naval battles is particularly broken. A fleet of my Shimazu navy filled with 2 Heavy Bunes and 4 Medium Bunes wrecked full stacked of Chosokabe Navy with 7 Sengoku Bunes and 3 Medium Bunes. While the enemy Chosokabe Bunes melee attacked the Heavy Bunes, the medium Bunes used warcry and enemy Sengoku Bunes routed within seconds.
Whenever I’m playing the Takeda and I start microing another side of the battlefield and I look over at my cav getting raped by 3 units of yari ashigaru in spear wall is the biggest POV moment. So funny that yari is so useful in all areas of the game only because their cheap and can make a yari wall that can stop like 2 units of katana Sam for like 5 minutes without even an inspire or a rally kek

Kisho ninja have a fear ability that can be unlocked for vets as a final upgrade but I've heard it's glitched or maybe it's the armour penetration upgrade .. I can't recall, in any event one of the ninja upgrades is a waste
Oh yeah in avatar they can have both armor penetration and scare enemies, I know for a fact scare enemies works with units so maybe its the other, I'm not certain which is glitched either.

Cav moves faster on unsuitable ground in open order. This applies to other historical TW too except in very thick forests with large trees like in Rome where the sprites will certainly collide with bad ai path finding
I arrived late to this video, but i want to clarify about how powerful is having square formation to yari samurai, and not only because they can hold better their own, but because they have extreme sinergy with matchlocks, specially with the fire by rank formation in close formations. to put things simple , you do the following: -download the square formation mod. -Put a line of yarimurai and then press square formation. -Place your guns in 3 rank formaiton behind the yari frontline with the fire by rank activated. -in campaign, put everything with +5 armour (+3 and +2 from both buildings) and place your army in forest. Not casualties at all, you can even try this even in open field and not being punished too much to affect performance. -Enjoy playing the game in easy mode with the otomo.
I think you got the pictures backwards for Hold Firm. With no Hold Firm, the picture shows they get an extra 3 melee defense, while Hold Firm shows that they lose it.
fire arrows allow u to conquer citadels with bow ashugaru, i spotted it on my uesugi campaign, and he’ll things get worse when I come to monks archers😅
I've found that normal fire has a hard time breaking the morale of samurai units. The rippling fire doesn't deal enough kills in a short enough time. But if you concentrate all the kills you would've gotten from a rippling volley into 3 fast condensed volleys, you'll deal way more morale shock. Even getting your volleys off in time however is another story... Additionally, Fire By Rank w/ loose formation adds a lot of survivability vs other missile troops. Even the fact the first two ranks kneel when reloading increases their chance of avoiding fire.
I like to mess with Shogun 2 files and make mods, so i made a mod for fun allowing Yari Ashigaru with Stealth ability and surprise it worked and it doesn't make sense at all 😂
You still get games in avatar conquest? I wouldn't know, I quit after dumb CA erased my progress after a patch & everyone field DLC armies which can win base game units.

@@TripleZHacker it can't be fixed by modders. It's in the game engine and CA never gave modding tools, that can access it. Same goes for 4 group formations of Gempei/Sengoku era - CA broke their voice events

Put ninjas in column formation, and leave them on guard mode. the ones in the back will continue to throw nades. use spears to stop flanking.

hattori Yari samurai is best of yari samurai,as it has speed+ninjutsu deploy, make it able to deploy desired map location, and launch rapid ambush
I like Inspire the most. I don't usually use Yari Wall, as I prefer better mobility.
