YT algo wins again. I have alot of great memories buying the Pyramid head skin and dancing in a Congo chain on the dance floor at the mall, having philosphical conversations over a game of chess under the glow of a virtual sunset. Great doc friend, gladly subbed. Gladly subbed
I was JUST telling my friends about this game a few days back. It's the reason I can type ungodly fast on the PlayStation keyboard with a controller. I even bought the keyboard accessory that can hook up to the PS3 controller to make it a working keyboard. I spent legit hours in this game playing bowling and I remember the full movies. When I first moved into the big city with no friends around, I spent a ton of long nights on here chatting with everyone. Man, I'm so glad it might be coming back with Destination Home, I will have to support that
Playstation Home was one of the reasons I jumped from XBox to PlayStation. I loved the idea of a social space, complete with a customisable home. Also, love the Habbo Hotel mention. Loved that place when I was a teen!
PlayStation Home was definitely ahead of its time and I absolutely initially saw the potential. I was actually blown away by the fact that it was free on the console, given how much work seemed to have been put into it. Though, I was more impressed by the literal meta-aspect of it…That being the connections between game worlds and your own home personal space; where you could show off trophies from your actual games and collect prizes from the mini games within Home that revolved around those games.🤯🍻
You neglected to mention that an initial idea was for the PS3 user to boot directly into Home, then interact with a PS3 console to play games from within your apartment / living place in Home.
I genuinely miss PS Home, me and my late brother both got a PS3 around the same time and we used to mess around on there & play the mini games. If only there was something similar now
Nice video, one of the better ones I've seen covering PS Home's history. Time will tell if revived PS Home is popular or just ends up being a niche fan thing, but the fact it's back for people to use again is amazing really.
Damn this video unlocked so many good memories,, I spent hella money on spaces and clothes. We used to have parties, and watch movies together in the spaces. They really need to bring it back
Home was cool. Having my own TARDIS in my beachfront apartment and playing Quest for Greatness to unlock Twisted Metal, Warhawk, and Destruction Derby. :D
Home was one of the reasons I bought a PS3, it was ground breaking at the time. I ended up using it semi-regularly and although sluggish, I really enjoyed it
Loved PlayStation Home for what it was. A genuinely cool experience for the time. I remember some rando got really pissy at me in there one time because I commented that "life's too short to be standing in a virtual queue." - that was one of Home's unnecessary weaknesses - why queue up to play a game, when any other method would be quicker and better?
Home was great and definitely ahead of its time. I made so many friends there (and GTA 4) who stuck around for years playing games together. The mini games in Home were actually pretty fun even if half baked. Pool was my favorite though.
One day Home might come back. It was appalling and massively based on buying little things of crap. Today’s PlayStation infrastructure is far better suited to Home than the PS3 was.
What were the clips in the beginning from? The gang awkwardly hanging out at a party and Ben randomly appearing outside Ashton's window looked hilarious
I spent a lot of time on there when I was off work due to illness. It was a great way to be social when I was unable to leave the house. I made some real life friends after first meeting in the hubs. Not wrong about the trolls and the online predators though. There were always gangs of male avatars crowding around new female avatars that appeared.
I absolutely loved Home! Still annoyed they scrapped it... I remember changing location settings to Japan or the states and seeing how massively different their home was compared to the EU home
Boy did UA-cam bury this video. Shame. Home seems both ahead and behind the times. Behind because Second Life did a lot of what it did. But ahead because everyone seems to have forgotten Second Life and re-tried the idea with the "Metaverse". But Metaverse is so Covid-Era thinking. It could only exist in an era just emerged from spening a year locked up.
I really enjoyed Home. In America. Between it's better Home and MLB: The Show being region locked, I had myself a US account on PS3. But yeah, Hoke was good to pootle around in.
I imagine. Ow days this would work a lot better. If it was the Home Screen to launch games, join parties etc people would be interested. The infrastructure and internet speeds are there to do it.
“Did it fail because it was 15 years ahead of its time or because Joe Public isn’t all that interested in the Metaverse?” I’ve only just started the video but I’m gonna guess it’s the latter, because the majority of people today still don’t seem at all interested in the Metaverse or anything like it.
I miss Home. I enjoyed all the unlockables (like the Batcave) and if you looked past the trolls there was a great community of people. It was many of the ways I felt Sony were innovating that era (along with @Home and Second OS). It's just a shame that Sony tore it all down.
Playstation Home might have been better if it started as the playstation menu itself. if you turned a ps3 on and appeared in a menu/town square mix, that may have been quite a lot better. it’s still neither a game or a solution to a problem though so
Mark is investing Billions into this, not millions. insane. anyone who remembers how bad Playstation Home was as an idea, and how unpopular, tells you everything you need to know about where Metas virtual world is going

Oh the Home trailer nostalgia hitting hard I thought this was incredible when I first saw it, stuck in Beta for absolute years
Yeah it was a weird time. If it was a complete experience at launch and not a complete mess then we’d have been golden in Home. Ah, would it were.
PS Home could've been massive during lockdown

It's already back, has been for ages
Playstation Home was one of the reasons I jumped from XBox to PlayStation. I loved the idea of a social space, complete with a customisable home.

Log in, buy clothes, turn on bubble machine, dance party commence
I miss PlayStation home. I was lucky to be in the beta and it was a wild ride.

I wish I would've spent a bit more time there. I bought a PS3 in late 2014, almost too late to even try it.
My Dad, being one of the developers who worked on PlayStation Home, will never not be amazing to me.
Great video guys, I’d love to see deeper dives on stuff like this for sure.
PlayStation home was my life back in the day. Ahead of its time. Still remember buying myself the London pub. Great times
Damn I didn't think I'd hear anyone talking about home in 2024.
Same! The nostalgia from watching this is insane!
Never heard of this before, nice video.
I love the very subtle nod to Second Life at the start of this video!

Good times (':
They really need to bring this back, so many new people should experience this

Was not expecting the brief cameo from the Boy Mayor of Second Life
What were the clips in the beginning from? The gang awkwardly hanging out at a party and Ben randomly appearing outside Ashton's window looked hilarious
Thanks for the trip down nostalgia lane, team DoubleJump
PS Home, you could always find me in the inFAMOUS area with my Cole McGrath outfit
I love this series, I hope that Al Gore's rhythms are kind to it so we get more.
I used to love PS Home! I even spent the money on that giant mansion (after getting the garage for free)... then the service shut down.

Oh yea! It's a well-thought-out and researched videogame essay time! 🥳
I miss PS Home. I was there from the closed beta to fully open beta all the way till its shutdown.
I absolutely loved Home! Still annoyed they scrapped it... I remember changing location settings to Japan or the states and seeing how massively different their home was compared to the EU home

This is the good stuff!
I really enjoyed Home. In America. Between it's better Home and MLB: The Show being region locked, I had myself a US account on PS3. But yeah, Hoke was good to pootle around in.
I met alot of great people on Home.
PlayStation Home should come back with PSVR2 & PC support just to flex on Zuckerberg.
got my PS3 only in 2011, downloaded this and didn`t know what to do. it had mini games? never came across one, lol
This would be SO good with PSVR2 support
I imagine. Ow days this would work a lot better. If it was the Home Screen to launch games, join parties etc people would be interested. The infrastructure and internet speeds are there to do it.
PS Home was amazing at the time!
I would sincerely like to apologize for my behavior during the PS Home days 😂

Sony needs to bring this back.
There’s two teams but both projects are decent
Wish they'd bring it back NGL. Maybe I'd buy a console again then
I remember coming here to play Demon's Souls with someone
First time I hear about this
I forgot about this. I tried it and I wasn't impressed.
"Beata"? Don't you mean "Beta"?

Ps home, think i went on it about three time's.
I messed with it on and off...was never really that good.
Does anyone remember Xi?
