All weapons are available from the start except the Bayonet, which you get in the middle of chapter 1 after defeating some enemies.
OXTAIL BLADE is the most overpower weapon in the game and after that ODACHI is the best one.
There are 9 different weapons in the game, which includes the following list:

Sabers aren't pirate swords. Yes maybe some pirates did use them, but their (or any Navy man) preferred swords were definitely Cutlass, shortened Sabers, since they were more effective when fighting on ships. Sabers at the time the game set in were very popular among ALL European armies.

Im not the katana fan, odachi is better for me until reach to half of the game and see the shogun after that oxtail become my blade

@@EGL911 oxtail is good but katana is flashy so I’m stuck with it not gonna lie also tatsumi-ryu is kinda cheap with the triangle attack it gets free parries sometimes hope it doesn’t get nerfed honestly it’s a single player game it’s shouldn’t get nerfed we already lose ki on attack and all ki if we’re hit while attacking and bosses don’t they should just add dlc or something like where is my quick draw slash like what Gensai Kawakami has 😭 no fair him and Li have some cool looking attacks

Tatsumi, Gikei-Ryu, Aisu-Kage and Hayabusa are all good. Tatsumi's counterspark is probably the best in the game

There are four combat styles unlock in NG+, which makes every weapon type has at least four combat styles

Shinto munen-ryu on the odachi has an insane parry window. Pretty much don’t die when I whip it out anymore on my playthroughs.
Such a different expereience from mine, Polearm is my go to since early game (just got to edo), I feel it's quite of a safe weapon if you don't overextend
Polearm is slow but odachi and oxtail are really overpower now and use a good amount of ki per each hit and deal massive damage
The paired swords, saber, oxtail blade and greatsword get an extra style you can use after you beat the game, and it’s really good.

Like clean up the public orders or kill enemies

I just finished Twilight mode using a polearm. The weapon is a bit slow but is fun to use. I am gonna practice paired swords which I will use in Midnight mode.
A fair ranking IMO. Odachi is the best for me in terms of damage, combat styles etc and strikes a good medium between fast and slow. It's right in-between there so that's good considering the ATK power. I would have never thought the Oxtail blade would be #1 though.
I would like to try the katanas but I have only acquired one so far and the rarity and ATK power is way too low compared to my other weapons. I'm currently level 21 BTW. Just finished " Cultural Exchange, Tracking Down Harris, and Take Back Hongakuji Temple missions" so I'm a good way in (still Chapter 1 though I believe) and have 100%ed every single area thus far and got loads of weapons and gear so I find it strange how come I'm not coming across katanas to acquire. If anyone can shed some light I'd appreciate it.
This game need open world co-op to be perfect and then maybe add extra different martial arts.
Oxtail, duel swords, polearm then katana are the 4 i rotate between.

For me I would say that the duel katanas are pretty op and can be utterly broken depending on the fighting style you use. I say this because I found one fighting style for the duel katanas to be absolutely broken if used correctly. That fighting style is genzui's combat style. Why is it broken you may ask? Well it's because of one single martial move which is the sweep. The sweep move is just broken in general, especially if you know how to parry very well. Because when you parry an enemy they will obviously stagger and depending on the size of the boss you can make them fall on the ground by using that sweep move, and if you hold down the button that is connected to the sweep move you will be able to do another sweep that caused fire damage, allowing to apply a status affect on the enemy without any resources. It gets even better considering as long as the enemy stays in the sweep fire you created, the enemy will continue to lose health and lose stamina in the process as well, making the duel katanas almost on par with the oxtail blade. In other words the duel katanas are very versatile, and even if the enemy cant trip and fall on the ground, either because they weren't staggered or were just too tall or big to fall on the ground, it doesn't matter because the sweep fire still effects them quite nicely
My ranking for the duel katanas would be somewhere 4 to 2.

Is it better to focus on just one weapon for the whole game or use a secondary weapon too? I’ve been rotating between katana, polearm,odachi and oxtail blade. Struggling to stick to one lol I’m level 31 btw
Each weapon has 25 levels and all of them give you something si i suggest to play with all of them if you want to be powerful because some of them are rare skill point

I would say it's better to have at least 2 weapons to cover your bases.

In RotR attack speed is key to win the fight
The only skill that should be nerf is the paired sword skill unearthly flames, just spam it after a parry and its gg lol
Nothing should be nerfed in pve game

They arent going to nerf the oxtail weapon. Its not even the best in the game.
