4 years is quite a long time for a hamster, my hamster died in 1,5 years even tho I loved and took care of her
allukala I know, he might have lasted longer but if they carry the far gene, & he did, four yrs is the maximum for hamsters. I miss that little guy so much and it’s been more then 20 yrs

Hey Mark, this probably isnt the best place to say this, but I needed to say it now.
So maybe 6 or 7 years ago I found you on youtube- an aspiring artist myself I found a lot of value in your tutorial videos and was fascinated by your stories in your time in Japan. I recall hearing you mention your work on Brody's Ghost- though its not till now, after having served in the Marine Corps for 5 years and been married and gotten out, did I by chance see a "Collected Edition" laying haphazardly in my local Barnes and Nobels.
Well- I just wanted you to know I couldn't be happier that I felt compelled to buy it on the spot. I took it home and read it all in one long sitting. Thanks for sticking to your guns and creating all the work you've done. I've got my own pet project comic that I am still working on piece by piece and its people like you that really do motivate me.
And this is indeed a lovely video on how to draw something simple and build it up to a nearly photo realism.

i think it's a camouflage adaptation. the whiskers that go over the brown patch of fur are black and the whiskers that drop over the white patch of fur are colorless.
The Welsh word for 'Hamster' is 'Bochdew" meanimg 'fatcheek.' ; the more you know~

We love you Crilley I spite of lack of proper term knowledge. Still so everyone knows. The darker on top paler underneath is -revealing throughout many animals; called “counter Shading” it is a type of basic camouflage. The pale blends in with the brightness of the sky and the dark blends in with the ground or darkness of the ocean bottom. It is most pronounced in larger deep water animals such as sharks and whales but not always present. Also to understand animals and any subject even further than studying a few references and the shapes as he does here you can go further by studying the ecology, behaviour and movement (from life and nature specials) and study the anatomy skeletal, musculature and surface. Which this knowledge and any studies you do you will more fully understand and can attempt to move the subject and draw more lively but realistic poses and animations. Also by doing many studies and comparative anatomy you can apply this knowledge to scientifically based fantasy creature design. Great video, have fun everyone!

To Mr. Mark Crilley- I love your videos and have been following your channel for at least seven years, and have even supported you by getting The Realism Challenge, so I would like to give you a piece of my mind and address the state of your channel, because you are my absolute favorite UA-camr. This channel has always been a consistent source of how to draw videos, but it focuses on drawing people,animals, or different styles of drawing. Every now and then we get some all encompassing painting of a landscape, but you don't tend to make videos concerning the pieces that make up those grand projects. To give an example of what I'm talking about, I would like to suggest a series of videos on how to draw/paint different types of trees, various rocks and formations, how you Convey the little suggestions of grass, how to make a field of flowers, how to make a day or night environment, how to incorporate buildings into environments and different types of buildings, also different types of clouds, a desert landscape, a beach environment, how to convey water when viewed from above the surface, below the surface of the water but looking up to the sky(especially that one), and various angles. In short, I would like to make a proposal for a series of videos that focuses on nature, landscapes, and environment paintings/ drawings. Maybe even on how to incorporate people and buildings into nature in a realistic way. I hope that you get around to reading this Mr. Crilley, because I love your channel and have been watching and waiting for the afore mentioned videos that I have suggested, but have not seen them, so please just try at least one of my suggestions.-from your devoted fan, Killian Strassheim 😁

I had a few hamsters when I was younger, Buttercup, Buttercup(II) and Buttercup(III). This drawing sorta looks like them!
(I think Buttercup II & III might've once been Buttercup's daughters, becuase of how similar they looked.)

Oh my god! This video made me kinda sad because my hamster passed away in march and I really try not to think of him, or not to have anything at all related to hamsters, but when I saw that he drew a hamster I couldn't pass by the video and not to click on it. I drew my hamster before he died, it was quite bad, but that's the only drawing of him that I got...His name was Muffin, and he was so cute and quite chubby, gosh...I loved him so much...:(

@@silvernightdogyt9217 . You don't have to be sad, he lived a little bite over two years and he was very happy. He died of old age, I think, and I don't think that he suffered. I mean, the night before he passed away, he was running in his wheel and eating and stuff like that. I think that he had a heart attack or something similar, beacuse I found him in his tunel, like he was walking...idk. But he had a great life and I am so happy that I had the chance to take care of him. And yes, I think too that Muffin is a cute name. Especially because he was a lil bit fat and he was round like a cupcake😍. Thank you for being so nice to this whole thing. Do you have a hamster?
