While living in the Philippines I went on a trip to the sea side for four of us. When the day came 25 people turned up. I had to feed and pay for them all for two days. You live and learn eh. On the way back to the house I stopped and bought a Ham burger which turned out to be a BIG mistake too. Some things are best kept secret.
I’ll be moving to the Philippines this October, can’t wait, I love the Philippines. I was there last August in Davao for a month. I’ll be moving to Cebu.
I've seen videos of expats in the Philippines talking about retirement, relationships, families, and other issues important to their age group. Since part of your content is based on your actual experiences interacting with locals and with your Filipino friends, younger expats in your age group would benefit from it. So, Van, keep going.
Glad to hear that Win. I've found that the UA-cam channel space for Philippines expats seems to be a one note kind of place. Happy to bring some diversity and a unique perspective to the table. Thanks for watching brother :)
I am a Brit living with my family in the Philippines. I agree with most of your points except 1) sarcasm - I don't have many non-Filipino friends, and my sarcasm tends to be self-deprecating in that I take the piss out of myself and they recognise this and now do the same. 2) My wife has a daughter from her first marriage. Her husband deserted her. I have no issue with looking after her daughter, who is doing well at school, nor do I have a problem with supporting our niece who is doing her best to get ahead in life. She is at university and I fund her so she does not have to worry about money while she is studying for a better life. I met my wife in HK where we lived for 5 years before coming here and that has been an advantage. While we provide her family with employment we don't simply dish out cash and she made that very clear to her family. That may be my personal experience. Everything else you say, though, is pretty much on point.
Absolutely Joshua. My intention wasn't to make it seem like all women in the Philippines are gold diggers (baby mommas was probably not the best term to use). What you and your wife have going on is great - making it clear that you won't dish out money. The point I mentioned were for those that purely come to the Philippines to have multiple girlfriends, not for already married couples. Because, as you know, some guys will take on multiple girlfriends without knowing the repercussions I mentioned in the video 💯 Thanks for sharing Joshua.
@@TheSavvyExpat I definitely see the point you are making. My wife and I are the same age and we both have children from previous relationships. I didn't infer you meant 'gold diggers", although some certainly are, but isn't that the case in most cultures? We have a good, family life here and I would never give it up.
@@TheSavvyExpat My wife pretty much decided we were going to relocate to the Philippines after our son was born. I wasn't exactly averse to the idea, but I just needed a push. I was comfortable in HK, but not exactly happy so she gave me the kick in the butt I needed! Interestingly, we have provided her sisters/family with the money required so they can make cash for themselves. That is all they needed. To me it is an investment since, in true capitalist style, they make a profit from their work and we get a dividend from our investment. Everybody wins, so who can complain. And, I get to drink San Mig and sleep late.
Filipino humor includes sarcasm too. The thing is jokes, whether sarcastic or in any other form, sometimes don't really translate or come across well regardless of who you are giving the jokes to, it really depends on how successfully you can get the joke across and how successfully other people will receive it.

Brooooo spot on with the topic about sarcasm. Most people don't mention it as part of the experience in videos even though its pretty well understood as a foreigner that knows Filipino culture. We should play tennis when I visit the Philippines haha. I played tennis all my life and just a year ago finished playing college tennis for George Mason University in Fairfax, VA.
Great advice!! I guess to each their own. Filipinos have been a blessing to me and I have a deep set love and appreciation for the culture. The fun of traveling for me is to experience and navigate new cultures. There’s just so much to learn. If one keeps their expectations in check and tries not to get offended, I think it can be a great experience. Just like you shouldn’t use sarcasm, don’t use snark either. In fact, don’t use snark anywhere, lol. Snark is mean, disrespectful and cowardly. One needs to up their humility and respect to match the local culture. Try not to act like you own the place and realized that you are a foreign guest with guest-like responsibilities. Appreciate the hospitality that you receive because that’s a #1 strength of this culture along with the connectedness.
All very good advice , I have been travel and spending my winters in the Philippines for the last 17 yrs , all I can say it is by far one of the best countries I have spent time in. When you carry cash, try to avoid overloading on larger 1,000 peso bills. Many places will struggle to cash those, especially if you're buying something low cost. If you are out shopping at SM or the malls that's not a real problem, but local stores really do appreciate the smaller denominations.
Spot on Rick but I find it hard when you go to the foreign exchange and they only give it to you in 1,000 bills then you are going around big shops trying to use them to get small bills to use in local shops
Try to withdraw a number that ends in 900 from an ATM e.g. 4900. Hide the 500 and the 4 100's in your wallet and keep the 1000. Purchase only with the 1000's and keep hiding the change. Start to use the change once you have broken all the 1000's. If anyone asks if you have a smaller, lie and say no. Exception is Jeeps and smaller places, but if at a mall any store should be able to get change. Banks will usually make change for you, but it will involve a line and some waiting.
Same thing in China, had a hard time a few years ago breaking 100rmb bills = 1000 pesos. Carry a belt pouch with a lot of different small bills. However as the years went on, a meal costs 50rmb or 500 pesos, and a couple cocktails cost a couple bills or like 2000 pesos. So I'd say it's OK to carry a stack of 1000s for everyday expenses now. A meal with a few friends now usually ends up costing on average 150rmb per person or 1500 pesos, if like 4 people are eating that's 600 to 700rmb. In 2011 700rmb used to be a nice restaurant for 15 people.
Solid video! I agree 💯 I was born and raised in the Philippines but moved to Hawaii when I was 16, 22 years ago but I get easily offended especially when relatives make unnecessary comments 😅. This is something I’m going to have to adjust to when we move back in 3 years 🫠
Good job my friend. Just like you I lived in Chicago for 26 years and move to Houston in 2006. Me and my wife is planning to retire in Oct. That's why I'm watching your video a lot. I'm Filipino born and raised and came to Chicago in 1979.
I agree . When I first met my wife she did not know sarcasm. It was awkward until she started to understand that it was kidding . So many misunderstandings lol 😂. We are living in North Carolina for a while and she is use to it now . Thanks for the vid …
Haha that's awesome. We had a close friend here that never understood our sarcastic jokes but as time went on, he became more sarcastic than us... Adjusting to the culture goes both ways!
Sarcasm is a function of usage and familiarity of the language. She does know and do sarcasm...in her native language. Can you do sarcasm in her native language?
Will, if you're an expat living in the Philippines, you should be the one to adjust with Filipino culture, don't expect the host country with adjust for you. Even if you are a Balikbayan growing up in other country. Though Filipinos are naturally flexible and they really the one adjusting to foreign visitors but don't expect and please respect Filipino culture.
In my case as a Filipino living in the Philippines, this country is really embarrassing to any foreigners, the problems surpass the advantages. So I am willing to listen to the complaints of those foreigners because I face reality, not sugar-coated. The foolish family culture here really stucks, like foreigners that are in-laws are relied on for monetary aspects, so nakakahiya. So in my case I rather stay single for the rest of my life, because I will pity my partner as relatives here think that way. No wonder the Philippines is getting poorer as time goes by and absolutely surpassed by its neighboring countries in Asia, because this country has many bad values that are really embarrassing, like foolish family values, procrastination, corruption, poor healthcare system, poor infrastructure, gossipy environment, laziness and political immaturity. I have experienced living and working abroad so I can really compare. This is the truth, all Filipinos should accept this and try to remove these bad values, only then this country will get better.
You make a great point about not going out with a baby momma. But I think this would be a tough situation. Sometimes you can fall in love with a lady and later find out that she has kid(s). And like you said, you can be supporting many people.
Don't joke if you don't know the person. As Filipino, we take offense when someone has the audacity to criticize or prank us as if they already know us.
Although I have never been to the Philippines, I believe what you are saying here. I have spent a lot of time in Nicaragua, and all of your points are good advice for expats living there too.
Tuli, Great video. I have learned to see jokes in good nature. The accent has never been an issue with me. Filipinos seem to be Very kind and tolerant. I have learned to never raise my voice. Tuli, l have had to learn some lessons the hard way. Some, thankfully, l have learned from people like you. Stay save and stay safe. Be blessed!
Im a Filipino living in New York. Anywhere in the world, exercise caution with sarcastic jokes, don’t flaunt wealth and don’t criticize another country. Most Filipinos are hospitable and respectful of all foreigners visiting our country.
"#7 Don't criticize The Country" is on point. I'm pure Filipino and I take pride of being one so I get easily offended if criticism is coming from foreigners' political perspective, specially those who have never experienced the life and the culture in my country so pointing out the flaws is like shoving it off to our faces as if we are doomed to a bleak future. I only appreciate criticism if it is presented along with solution be it ideal or practical.
This is a tough one bc it is hard to talk about issues in a serious way when anything you say might be misconstrued an ugly judgment, even if they believe the thing you say is true.
@@rap3208 You are so right! Nobody is allowed to notice corruption if they were not born into corruption. We should all decide to be blind, except for the the enablers of corruption & those powerless to affect it. FYI, it was foreigners who fixed the corruption in east African coffee & other ag plantations, led by the World Wildlife Foundation. Now farmers there are much better off ... I bet they hate the "high & mighty" foreigners who helped them get a fair deal.
Excellent advice. In order to make your journey to the Philippines or any country you need to learn the customs of thT country. Whether you agree with the way things are said or done or not one has to accept things there. You must make an effort to get along in and with your host
I'VE ALWAYS ADAPTED THE MY SURROUNDINGS I'M A PEOPLE WATCHER I WATCH AND SEE WHAT OTHERS MISS! AND I LEARN FROM THEM, I TRULY BELIEVE WHEN IN ROME' DO AS THE ROMAN'S DO!
I see a clip of you playing tennis. My favorite things to do during the summer in Canada is playing tennis and golf. I'm wondering if I'll be able to find a place to play tennis or golf if I retire in the Philippines? I checked Google maps and it looks like the quality of the tennis courts are not the same as in Canada. As long as the ball bounces true I'll be happy with the courts or golf course.
You're in the same position as myself Mike - I just want a place to play regardless of quality 😂 There are tennis courts depending on where you live. If in Manila, there's a good amount. If in the province, not many.
Filipinos uses a lot of sarcasm but its expressed differently. Usually they say it with a tone that makes it obvious that theyre joking. Or they end the sarcastic remark with "joke only".
One comment about the foreigner picking up the tab. In Asian countries I've lived in the oldest/wealthiest person is expected to pay the tab in restaurants. Would be a loss of face for them if they didn't. The Western idea of splitting the bill is perceived as horrible.
I’m an elderly European lady living in the Philippines. I’ve never been asked to pay when with others at a restaurant, even though mostly I’m the one who will pay. But the bill is usually handed to a male in my party.
Love it, thanks for the tip Savvy. Can I ask what is the Driving rules in Phillipines? Can we drive there with just our American driver license? Does a car need to be registered and licensed?
I'm not totally sure Devon. From our experience, we got pulled over in Subic and the officer said that our American license isn't valid here. He still let us off. So I believe you need to be registered and licensed. I'll research it.
@@TheSavvyExpat Thank you Savvy. I actually just researched it. You are allowed to drive up to 90 days in Phillipines with your foreign DL. After that you will need to convert them to PH license. Not sure about Registration and Insurance yet.
@@devonferris If your renting a car I would make you sure you get insurance or you're covered through your CC. My AMEX platinum I have a premium car rental policy through my CC whenever I rent a car. Now if your driving a private car make sure it's properly registered and insured and you have legal permission to drive. When I get there next week one of 1st things I am getting my Philippine DL. I personally already have a vehicle that is mine waiting for me. It's already registered and insured, just needs me in the seat. 😎
For a very young whippersnapper, you give excellent guidance, advise and wisdom. We have a home in Las Pinas, I haven't been there yet, but will certainly keep all your advice in mind. The plan was to "blend" into the woodwork, but my wife said try as I might, the Philippino peeps will still know I'm a foreigner. Stay safe YoungOne
Its funny about the girlfriend thing..My ex in the Pi during my stay, I had everybody on me..Meaning I had to pay for her 2 brother s, mother, and cousin etc...Culture shock indeed !
I'm Filipino living in the Philippines. I went to mang inasal SM davao, davao city, they don't accept cards or e-wallet. But no worry, marami kang pwedeng kainan doon. Firstly, bago ka pumila ng mahaba ay magtanong ka muna sa casher kung tumatanggap sila ng cards or e-wallets. I am open talking with the real situation here in our country specially the poverty, government services, and a lot more socio-economic problem that I know. But a lot of people here in the Philippines, prepare and make them selves believe in lies than truth, because life is already hard. There is no more space for truth, truth hurts. I remember the one thing I am offended with, when I read a page in a book that says: Philippines has a lot of prostitute. Hello? How could it be a lot when I never meet one in my 27 years of existence?
Would you do a segment on having a pet when going to live in The Philippines? I'm going to live with my son's family in Sagada and will be bringing my small dog with me. What should I watch out for? What kind of behavior is not acceptable? What should I expect to be different i the way others perceive and treat me and my pet?
Filipinos love pets, especially dogs. Just don't hurt them and you'll be fine. If you hurt a dog here, you'll be exposed in social media. Tho be careful, lots of free roaming dogs especially in the province and rabies does exist here, so make sure they are vaccinated.
I agree with everything you say but what's funny is that my Filipino girlfriend has the most sarcastic sense of humor of any Filipino I have ever met before. I tell everyone keep an open mind when you go to the Philippines and think before you speak
Greetings , Evan! I am looking to live in the Philippines for about three years. I have seen several real estate video posts, but none of them are near University of the Philippines - Dilliman Campus. Do you have anything in your channel that toured the inside of a common or typical living quarters in BGC areas?
I hear a lot of foreigners say filipinos don't understand sarcasm. Filipinos do sarcastic jokes...in FILIPINO! Or in their native language (filipinos call them dialects) like ilocano, cebuano. pangasinense, etc.. If you do sarcasm in english, filipinos will have to think and decide if you're being serious or not, that is except those who are fully exposed to the west.
Very relatable 😂 it's all good. Filipino jokes are great as they're usually lighthearted, but sometimes it's harder to fit in here when others can't relate with the jokes lol
I’m a Filipino born in the States, married 36 years to a Filipina born in the Philippines’s, she doesn’t want me to joke to her friends like I do her. For example, I introduced her to my cousin, also born the States, he replied, “she’s prettier than me”, I responded, “yes, she also has bigger 🏀🏀 than me”. He couldn't stop laughing.
...turon ha! :), ....noting about the sarcasm, yea that'll get me into trouble, I think I've made a life of that so...props on going real about baby mommas, honestly, I think they know what they're getting into but the little head is driving the big one...great video, keep up the super job!
Big time Roti! Us guys gotta use our big heads which many unfortunately don't lol. And sarcasm was a big culture shock to me. No wonder why our jokes never was caught on here. Thanks for watching!
Sarcasm is taken literally bc things get lost in the translation. Bottom line is, gauge your audience before you fire the shot. This applies everywhere.
The funniest thing about respect for the country, as a US traveler I can’t tell you how many times I am beat up for being an American. I equate that to having an ugly sister, I know she is ugly, but I don’t want to hear YOU call her ugly, I love her that’s my sister.
If I would have seen your video 12 years ago then I would have saved myself years of drama. One of my wife friends called me fat and so wanted to hit her 😂🤣😂 but I learned that it means I am well taken care of. Weird communication in my view but again que sera sera!

Being an Aussie we don't get offended that easily and most of most likely play along with you we can have a laugh at are self Aussies are laid back and chilled kind of ppl we have a very good sense of humorthe Aussie Spirit is strong relaxed laid back and don't take things seriously that is why the Aussies and Filipinos get along so well when it comes to money dont look at it like its peso look at it as if its your dollar
"Don't criticize the country" That makes sense to me. I can yell at my son and call him an idiot, but if the neighbor yells at my son and calls him an idiot, I get mad. People don't like outsiders criticizing "their group".
In the early days, I had friends show up for dinner. I had to make it clear that I was only paying for the two of us. I seemed to have gained respect from my girlfriend for being careful with money. If you refuse to pay, you have won the battle. If you give in, you have lost the war.
Hello here are some insights from a local: 1) Agree. Asking a foreigner personal questions such as "are you single?" "Where are you from?" and such are for locals to get to know you. To find a common ground. Sarcastic jokes are a bit tricky to navigate. Your example was at a restaurant and you threw a sarcastic joke at a waiter who does not know you personally and did not know that you were joking. That server.may have erred on the side of caution to not offended therefore, professional reaction instead of laughter. If it was thrown to a friend then maybe your joke just bombed? Or maybe they are responding sarcastically to your sarcastic joke thus the straight face? 😊 2) Agree - carry cash but hide most well. Isn't this a general rule when traveling? 3) Agree. Filipinos have high regard for their.mothers. The worst swear word is "Putang ina mo" which translates to "Your mother is a b!tch" 4) Agree. Be careful with your money where ever you are or whom ever you are with. I suggest you talk it out with your GF and come to an agreement. Just remember that family is very important to most Filipinos. 5) Agree. If you are too flashy, you will come across as ignorantly arrogant. Easy pickings for those with bad intentions. Isn't it the same in most countries? 6) Agree. isn't this supposed to be an international rule. Don't be jerk. If you are.one everyone will know it and they will be forewarned. I believe no one likes jerks. 7) Agree. No bashing of the country or its citizens. You haven't been in our shoes so you do not have the right. If you wish to suggest something for the betterment of the sociery, do it in a respectful way. Don't whiney about it. No one likes that. 8) Agree. No additional comment as he explained it well. As a whole, humily and respect goes a long way where ever you visit. Look at it this way, if you have a visitor at your house would you appreciate it if they criticize your home? Or be disrespectful to a loved one? Or was a jerk to you? Or judge you without knowing you first? Or trash your home? Or was whiney? If you answered yes to any of the above, pleace stay out of the Philippines. We already have a lot of problems and we do not wish for you to add to it. 😊
I'M THE TYPE AS LONG AS I HAVE A CHEAP ROOF OVER MY HEAD CLOTHS ON MY BACK AND FOOD FOR IN MY STOMACH I'M FINE, I ALSO DO IT ALL, SO DON'T HAVE TO BOTHER ANY ONE, AND I ALSO PLAN FOR EVENTUALITIES AND COVER ALL SCENARIO'S LIFE AS TO WHAT CAN HAPPEN OR GO WRONG LIFE IS A CHESS GAME AND I PLAY IT WELL, WHEN I WAS YOUNG IT WAS A MONOPOLY GAME, AND I WON MOST OF THE TIME.
This is my reply to your episode: Ten reasons why expats leave the Philippines. This is my opinion about your thoughts savvy. After reading all the exchanges of replies you and readers of comments on display (because replies needed click first to show up). You live in the Philippines and you enjoyed it in some degree..however, of course there must be some negatives anywhere in the world including the Philippines. But would you take responsibily ...to appease/minimize the many extreme negative thought about this country they are trying to imply generally? Because you are the one they ask!! ...Not all the Filipinos are expecting/waiting all the time for a 'hand out' from any foreigner their family member/relative involved with, you can oftenly see relatives feed by their foreign partners but mostly only on special occations/celebrations. More often they're just having curiousity & wanting to be friend to you. Many of us are farmers, fishers, sellers, drivers, mechanics, artist/painters, carpenters, decorators, beautician, technicians, musicians etc. Of course there are some lazy individuals everywhere, you even have machines even on simple dishwashings.. there are some do always thought of money in their minds, gamblers, drunkards, addicted to dangerous drugs, psychopaths, Godless..Now tell us, where in the world not having some individuals like these? America? Nope. You are the one to correct them because you started all these..but instead, you allow them to mock Filipinos and adds futher points in agreement to their saying. Be true to your conscience and experience! Do you really a witness or actually witnessing, that generally as I read all your exchanges of thoughts.. Filipinos are robbers/ lazy?.. if you are unsure, Say it to them. I know you are still young but you started this. You even suggested go ahead signal to a query to take Filipina fiance/wife just to spare them the hassles of life here in Ph.. that's Ridiculous. You victimized us with Asian hate crimes in your country not to mention other difficulties.. still you'll pursue us in our own land? And still we treat you right and respect you. Of course we know Government has issues of corruption and mismanagements! And that sincere/voluntary/unconditional love/help to needy.. that is the thing what we welcome from anyone, thank you. God may bless us all.
Savvy Expat, I don't know if you can answer this, but with the building boom of recent years in the Philippines is there any danger that state will be bankrupt? I just pray that your country will not be like China with alot pretty buildings, but pretty much empty. Thank you for all your videos.

Hey! I have a Filipino boyfriend and appreciate your videos because they are really helpful. Greetings from Switzerland, Susanne
I'm from Belgium and I loved what you did with that Turon joke ;)
Lol first time I heard that, I thought it was pretty clever 😂
this Aussie got it too... ;) boom tishhhh !!
When you carry cash, try to avoid overloading on larger 1,000 peso bills. Many places will struggle to cash those, especially if you're buying something low cost. If you are out shopping at SM or the malls that's not a real problem, but local stores really do appreciate the smaller denominations.
Good tip Rick
All good points Evan. Thanks for the video!!
Glad it was helpful!
Spot on man! Been here for 5 years and don't mess with the locals is an understatement.
Absolutely, you never know who you're messing with. Whether it be a gang member, a politicians son, doesn't matter - don't mess with them
This information can prevent many problems for many of us
That's the goal! Glad I could help.
All very good points
Solid video! I agree 💯 I was born and raised in the Philippines but moved to Hawaii when I was 16, 22 years ago but I get easily offended especially when relatives make unnecessary comments 😅. This is something I’m going to have to adjust to when we move back in 3 years 🫠
Thanks bro your videos are really hopeful
Good job my friend. Just like you I lived in Chicago for 26 years and move to Houston in 2006. Me and my wife is planning to retire in Oct. That's why I'm watching your video a lot. I'm Filipino born and raised and came to Chicago in 1979.
Excellent Advice 👍
Sure thing, thanks for watching 💯
Great info! Thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful!
Great Video--thanks
Well put! This should be played on all arrival flights to the Philippines 🇵🇭 ✈️
Thanks...I do not like sarcasm either. It is often a passive-aggressive sort of put-down. Great advice on the ladies too. You are a wise man!
You nailed it
Good information.
Thanks 🙏
glad i´ve found my new source of informations!!!!
Glad I can help Rudolf
Thanks guy..
Great advice. You are wise beyond your years.
Thanks Jimbo
You make a great point about not going out with a baby momma. But I think this would be a tough situation. Sometimes you can fall in love with a lady and later find out that she has kid(s). And like you said, you can be supporting many people.
Another superb video. 👏👏 Keep up the great work!
I'm going to do all of these.
Great advice Evan. It’s all what you make if it. Flexibility is key!
Exactly Gary.
Excellent advice!
Great video. Thankyou
Don't joke if you don't know the person. As Filipino, we take offense when someone has the audacity to criticize or prank us as if they already know us.
Well said bro..
thanks Peter
Although I have never been to the Philippines, I believe what you are saying here. I have spent a lot of time in Nicaragua, and all of your points are good advice for expats living there too.
Honesty. Thanks 👍
You bet Darryl
I subscribe you bro. Philippines might be GOAT of all expat destinations.
Great advice.
If your a foreigner they know your wealthy, don’t need to flaunt it. I hear the word “ SIR “ a million times everywhere I travel in S. Asia.
TYVM for the great tips
You bet!
This video helped me a lot on how to approach and be around filipinos, very useful information, thanks a lot!
Tuli,
Great video. I have learned to see jokes in good nature. The accent has never been an issue with me. Filipinos seem to be
Very kind and tolerant.
I hear you Enerjhon 💯
This is a tough one bc it is hard to talk about issues in a serious way when anything you say might be misconstrued an ugly judgment, even if they believe the thing you say is true.
Yeah, we criticize our country enough on our own, we don't need foreigners to act high and mighty criticizing it also.
@@davidfisher5140 Reading comprehension is really important before you respond, you know> Goodbye.
Excellent advice. In order to make your journey to the Philippines or any country you need to learn the customs of thT country. Whether you agree with the way things are said or done or not one has to accept things there. You must make an effort to get along in and with your host
Thank you for the advice, and for sharing that beaming smile with the world 😁🤪

Wow. Your baby momma advice is much needed truth. It’s nasty to hear but needs to be said, and it applies to most places not just the PI.
If I date a girl and she shows up with five people I just get up and excuse myself and walk away
I agree with you
I see a clip of you playing tennis.
Absolutely. I am still learning that jokes get terribly lost in translation.
it really does!
Is Iloilo Iloilo a good place to live
Just take it easy with a sense of humour 🙏👍🏼

What about being a foreigner woman, relationships, investments, would it be the same advice?
@@TheSavvyExpat You should be able to drive on a US license for up to 90 days with a valid visa.
@@TheSavvyExpat Thank you Savvy. I actually just researched it. You are allowed to drive up to 90 days in Phillipines with your foreign DL. After that you will need to convert them to PH license. Not sure about Registration and Insurance yet.
@@Synfulz thank you. What about registration and insurance? Are they required?

Me who lives in the Philippines: Really?! I didn’t know that! 😱
Lol

Tho be careful, lots of free roaming dogs especially in the province and rabies does exist here, so make sure they are vaccinated.
yes i understood it was phuny
Hahaha
Hey am a extreme minimalist & Native American I want to know how the WiFi I don’t hangout much
I agree with everything you say but what's funny is that my Filipino girlfriend has the most sarcastic sense of humor of any Filipino I have ever met before. I tell everyone keep an open mind when you go to the Philippines and think before you speak
At least for most Filipinos I've met, they don't use sarcasm so your girlfriend is one of a kind 😂
Greetings , Evan! I am looking to live in the Philippines for about three years. I have seen several real estate video posts, but none of them are near University of the Philippines - Dilliman Campus. Do you have anything in your channel that toured the inside of a common or typical living quarters in BGC areas?
ua-cam.com/video/EarGmKdX_T0/v-deo.html BGC
How did you handle the eight items you mentioned? Any time you do give advice, you had to have some experience in dealing with these items…..
5:10 oh shit 😂 LOL this is facts hahaha! This should have been #1
All true pare! I still accidentally forget my asawa doesn’t like or understand my western jokes lol.
Very relatable 😂 it's all good. Filipino jokes are great as they're usually lighthearted, but sometimes it's harder to fit in here when others can't relate with the jokes lol
@@TheSavvyExpat for sure! Ive been told a few times in the past “Hoi watch your jokes ha, they won’t get you ba!” Lol
I’m a Filipino born in the States, married 36 years to a Filipina born in the Philippines’s, she doesn’t want me to joke to her friends like I do her.

Big time Roti! Us guys gotta use our big heads which many unfortunately don't lol. And sarcasm was a big culture shock to me. No wonder why our jokes never was caught on here. Thanks for watching!
How long have you been living in the Philippines? It’s cool that you have a Filipino accent now too, did that take effort? Or does it happen naturally
Being from the UK number 1 is a walk in the park . It sounds like the lite version of a British person.
Sarcasm is taken literally bc things get lost in the translation. Bottom line is, gauge your audience before you fire the shot. This applies everywhere.
That was a solid dad joke/pun. 10/10
😂
The funniest thing about respect for the country, as a US traveler I can’t tell you how many times I am beat up for being an American. I equate that to having an ugly sister, I know she is ugly, but I don’t want to hear YOU call her ugly, I love her that’s my sister.
Good analogy Paul.
If I would have seen your video 12 years ago then I would have saved myself years of drama. One of my wife friends called me fat and so wanted to hit her 😂🤣😂 but I learned that it means I am well taken care of. Weird communication in my view but again que sera sera!

"Don't criticize the country" That makes sense to me. I can yell at my son and call him an idiot, but if the neighbor yells at my son and calls him an idiot, I get mad. People don't like outsiders criticizing "their group".
great example
In the early days, I had friends show up for dinner. I had to make it clear that I was only paying for the two of us.
I seemed to have gained respect from my girlfriend for being careful with money.

How do you not support the baby momma?
Hello here are some insights from a local:
1) Agree.
2) Agree - carry cash but hide most well. Isn't this a general rule when traveling?
3) Agree. Filipinos have high regard for their.mothers. The worst swear word is "Putang ina mo" which translates to "Your mother is a b!tch"
4) Agree.
Well not all Filipinos but it depends
Exactly
