What a great demo and explanation about your painting process and breaking the rules! Several points for me to keep in mind: the ugly phase and not giving up, finding the best references, adding darks and allowing myself to let go of drawing and trace. Thank you, Rachel, you are an amazing artist and teacher!
So true about an ugly stage! I don’t know how many times I got frustrated and put a painting down. I come back after being away from it and continue through the ugly stage! Just put it down and come back - always gets better!
yep painting and drawing are def 2 different skills that you need to learn to work together sometimes, tracing can save time and ending up frustrated Sometimes "rules" are just meant to be broken and remade😀
I love how bright & beautiful this bunny painting is with all varieties of colors I have seen you put on the paper. I agree with you too about many of these rules. It really depends on what your individual style is & I think 🤔 also what level of painting you’re at, especially if you are a beginner. I get super nervous about the ugly stages of my paintings too, or overworking them. Still learning about the windmill principle & getting at part of it incorporated into my paintings. Thanks for sharing this wonderful valuable information & being an inspiration for my artwork! Enjoy your weekend Rachel 🥰💕!

Almost every painting I do goes through an ugly stage. It's just part of the process, but it sure isn't fun!

Gotta love breaking rules!

Thanks for this! Very informative. I also love love that bunny painting!
Thank you so much Eleni!
Great video, as usual. I didn't realize Charles Reid had passed. Tony Couch taught the first workshop I took in 2001. He is 92 and still teaching!
Tony Couch is amazing too!
Thank you, Rachel! Love your bunny. I delivered a commission today and plan to use it to join your Patreon in January. Happy holidays!
Yay, I love to hear that!
Great advice and super painting… 🙏🏼🎨✨💕
Thank you Marion!
Great artists tend to not follow the rules, they make new ones!
Indeed!
