Antisemitism has many facets. Sometimes we even discover it in ourselves. Where does anti-Semitism come from? Where do the stereotypes, which are often centuries old, come from, and what role do they still play today? How do we distinguish between legitimate criticism of the Israeli government and blatant antisemitism? We ask a Jewish woman and a Jewish man what everyday anti-Semitism means to them - and try to find out why it's so hard to combat. A report by Anne Höhn and Kate Brady.

The ones complaining when people ask them about the situation in Israel. How do you think a lot of German or Austrian people feel when they always get blamed for the Holocaust? I am from there and have never done even one bad thing to a Jewish person. Neither has my family. They have actually put their lives on the line helping Jewish people escape back in the days of the World Wars. Yet we always have to hear that too. So when it comes to Israel - well it comes with the territory. It happens to all groups. Muslims get blamed for being terrorists, even the ones who are the most peace loving people. Yet the Jewish seem to make a big drama always about everything. If we are part of a "group" we will have to deal with the associations, be they positive or negative.

The origins of antisemitism go all the way back to the Old Testament. It started with the story of Abraham and Sarah lying to Pharaoh about Sarah’s status as an ‘unmarried woman’ in order to be 'treated well' and gain access to the highest levels of power in Egypt. Pharaoh and his harem come down with a "mysterious illness" (venerial disease) and Pharaoh confront Abraham about his trickery and kicks Abraham and his followers out of Egypt. So there you have, Pharaoh kicking Abraham out of Egypt was the first act of antisemitism.

We can see some people today trying to update the concepts of these religions to make them better in terms of tolerating others and I respect those people actually, there's no way the world could get better if people harm others because it's written in a book that'snot even scientific nor logical (not saying that it would be ok even if it were that).

I think in Europe it’s not only about racism towards Jews but rather any outsider can be a target. I understand German sensitivity towards historical discrimination of Jews but this should not be the only discussion about one minority, but racism im general.
But that's not just Europe. Anywhere you go, there will be people with hatred towards differences. Some examples: death penalty for homosexuality - Saudi, Iran, Yemen, Brunei, Nigeria, Illegal in Russia, India, Indonesia and more. Racism - Japan, Russia, China, Iran, South Korea, etc. Stupid people who think that they are better then others just because they were born in some way are everywhere. I am from Czech Republic and I had to sell forged products (swords, armors - medieval replicad for fencing) in Germany. Most of the people were nice to me. Some even gave me little extra money (tip basically) as I was also forging for show. However one family demanded this tip to be given back to them after they found out I'm not German, but as they said "dreckiger Tscheche".

Most people in the video are just europeans (german, polish, ukrainians etc.) whose ancestors converted to judaism.
