Pat Benatar is an iconic female rocker with that powerful voice!! I also love her song “We Belong”!
Same
Some of her best music are the songs that did not make it on the radio.
Yeeesssss
That wasn't her boyfriend in the beginning - it was her father. Her mother was standing right next to him and that was her little brother in the window. She was a teenage runaway.
and dancing is a metaphor for prostitution.
Exactly!
Sometimes this girl has no clue what these songs mean. Lol
omG, THANK you! when she paused to give her explanation, i was like "what the world??? she thinks the man at the beginning is her BOYFRIEND or something?? she didn't see the mom standing right next to him or the little brother she waved to in the window upstairs??" i'm genuinely amazed she came away w/ that analogy....wow. ~ b.
@@MrBillie1234 In her defense, I think she's breaking apart the song, not breaking down the video. It would be nice if she could do both but Its her channel so...
She was trained as an opera singer before becoming a certified rock goddess. You need to hear Fire and Ice, Hell Is For Children, and Invincible, as well.
I forgot about Invincible! OMG! What a great song!!!
@@Julieroo28 The Legend of Billie Jean, will always think of that movie when I hear it.
Fair is fair!
I just downloaded Invincible a couple weeks ago. Couldn’t believe it wasn’t on my playlist yet🤦♀️
Unfortunately, that's a myth. She was classically trained, but not specifically in Opera. Her mother, on the other hand, was.
She was a little ball of dynamite...5 octaves of pure voice.
Judy Walker and only about 5 ft tall....
She was awesome loved her!❤️
I saw her perform (the opening act for Toto) in 2016 and she can still belt out those songs! Love her! :-)
Sweet Thang ..Oh wow didn’t know she was still out there doing her thing....good for her😀
Was supposed to tour this year.....
She was kicked out by strict father, she was keeping in touch with her brother.(writing letters) She is a great artist, check out more from her.
Awww I love Pat. The story as I see it is that she ran away from home. She found herself in a big city and became a "dancer". The creepy guy I guess is the pimp. When they dance at the end they're saying we're strong and won't be used anymore. In the end she goes back home.
I had her hair and headband in the 80s 😁
I remember that was her first video where she danced lol
I liked her hair too😀!
I don't think she is going back home. She is headed to an unknown destination after her experience in New York City.
@@sampa2nyc My memory is bad but I think I remember her going home.
Pat is probably one of the most underrated artists in rock history. She was having hits with rock songs when most of the stuff you heard on the radio from women were either pop or a ballad. She was a pioneer for female rockers and should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame years ago.
I have *never* underrated her! I have been a huge fan of hers from the get-go! I saw her in 1987 and in 2016. Still awesome! She has a memoir out, Between A Heart And A Rock Place. Very interesting read! I agree 100% about her being in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!
I never interpreted this song with "young love" but as INDEPENDENCE, nothing to do with a relationship with an actual lover. The only love/battlefield there was between her and her rocky relationship at home. I really vibed with the story (not the pimps and such). Love Pat Benatar!!!
That was her father at the start that had words with her; not a boyfriend. And that was her brother upstairs. This wasn't about a toxic love affair that went wrong.. She didn't have a partner. WOW - you didn't say a darn thing about Pat's awesome 5 octave voice/singing! Except that she was "loud". smh I saw Pat Benatar in concert in 2016 and she is as awesome as she's ever been.
Sweet Thang Saw on on the tour...AWESOME
@@TexasMagnolia - yes, tiny Pat is still able to belt them out! :-)
Pat Benatar: "Hell is for children" is a good one
It is so good and she actually already reacted to it! Go check it out. ❤️
@@Steef_Lee oh...thank you!
@S.L. S.L. No problem!
Never understood the title
That is my fav pat benatar song
I got totally different vibe.. I don't see a relationship at all!!! It's about her family.. not a partner. She's a rebellious teen.. fights with Dad.. he gets made and loses his temper.. that's the battlefield!. She goes into city and get abused.. but becomes stronger and realizes that she has to leave... So she's on the bus heading back home.
Raise your hand if you still mentally insert "Leave me alone!!" after the lyric "There's no way this will die"
Lol, since day ONE! 😂🤣
There are a handful of 80s videos that have things like that. There's a creature roar in Duran Duran's "Wild Boys" video, in the album version that moment just has a strange deep percussive sound (the sound is present in most of the song, but it sounds dominant at that specific moment).
Yep. Everytime i hear it on my playlist. Wonder if anyone has done that at any of her concerts.
She's classically trained.😁 Back then you still had to be able to sing.😁
Yeah you're right she is not many people know that 🖒
No autotune
Those were the days.
Damn! I can't believe you paused the video right at the beginning of her 'shimmy' thru the bar. That was the best part.
LOL, I thought the same thing 🤣
It’s ok she resumed!
I know, right?
Hers knew not. ☺️
India wasn't into Pat.. she didn't say a thing about her singing, except that she was "loud". 5 octaves loud! smh
The video suggests a overly strict parent and the teenager rebels. And leaves for the big city. And eventually comes back home because the real world is tough
And the dad was showing some sign of regret for his words, like he was worried about her. Otherwise her coming home wouldn't seem like such a hot idea.
A rock classic. Pat was a star after this song hit the charts.
One of my favourite songs ever
Another good song by Pat Benatar: Promises in the Dark.
Your Mom Rocks India!
She still tours! She and her husband still rocks! Saw her a few years back at the country club concert.
My favorite Pat Benetar song is "All Fired Up". It will get you rocking!! Love your Reactions India!! 😀❤🤘
After coming home from college and gaining 25 lbs. in 1981, I played this song constantly while excercising that summer. It worked. I was lean again for my junior year. Great song.
Ooooo love this song! Sometimes it is a battlefield.
I bet you would like pat benater song “Heartbreaker”!
That was her brother in the window, not her boyfriend. That was HER parents house.
Pat Benatar...the absolute EPITOME of women in Rock’n’Roll. Delve deeper into Pat, she’s amazing!
I still like this song. The radio plays it everyday. Crank it up!
I've loved this song since I was little. I used to have that dance routine down pat.🤣
Another incredible reaction. This video is so powerful and sad. Getting thrown out of her home and having to do what she had to to survive. Ending up at a "Dime dance hall". And with the power of the lyrics...a great song.
I heard it on the radio and then on MTV and I adore Pat Benatar to this day. She has a spectacular range in voice.
This was my favorite song when I was a teenager for months and months. I still love it 30+ years later. Your mom is cool.
Great pick India! Love ya! Please also react to Pat's Invincible and Shadows of the Night!
This is my shit! I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED PAT BENATAR!!! Every single thing she ever put out! She’s just amazing!
I agree, quality all the way. Best female singer, along with Ann wilson with the rock singer vibe.
You should react also to WE BELONG 😊❤
Saw her 2 years ago, she can still bring it.
OMG, 1983! I was just starting my freshman year of high school! This song and video...constant loop on MTV. MTV was only a couple of years old and they didn’t have a large selection of videos yet. Pat is a legend🙏💕
This was a song I could relate to... being young and adamant with strong ideas of my own not of romance but of love for my family and love for freedom, away from rules and regulations.. my folks were right in the end. .. still no regrets. Just tough lessons xx.
I absolutely love this song. She was and is a strong woman who never takes crap from anyone. She always did her music, her way, and kept her career honest & true. I think you might like her 1988 song, All Fired Up.
Thanks Pat is an absolute legend... you really need to do 'All Fired Up' it's a bit later in her career but is one hell of a song!! Please!
This came out when I was a teenager. It resonated with all of us that heard it. We ALL loved it, whether you were a rock music lover or not, and the meaning behind it (each of us had our own interpretations). Even when I got older it was a stress-relieving "angry" song for me. I used to have a stereo system with HUGE floor-shaking speakers in my apartment and whenever I got really furious about something, I'd put on this song, lay belly-down on the floor, hide my face in my arms and blast it to the max level and just let the beats, the sounds, the voice, just ROLL over me and take all that bad shit away. This song means a lot to me.
LMAO I am literally listening to this song while on the treadmill. Perfect timing 😂
Me too!
The title "Love Is A Battlefield" is about a father and daughter not seeing eye to eye ( teenage rebellion ) on things and he kicked her out of her home . There is a difference between being kicked out of a home because you don't agree on things than just running away from it . After that she did what she had to to survive .
In addition to all the other Pat Benatar songs recommended, I'll add another gem lost in the past, that nobody seems to react to: "We Live For Love". It really showcases Pat's vocal range.
I never took this as a specific relationship- more about teenage life/angsts ,so to speak- more rebellious- no boyfriend in the video- ✌️✨
Because Pat Benatar is frealing amazing bad butt singer!!! Love her and she is awesome in concert!😎🌹💜
Your on a role India pat benatar in my opinion a great female rock singer even back in my day. Great voice and beautiful woman. Thanks I’m like in my teens again.
Pat Benatar can wail in the best of ways. Great singer. Her husband and lead guitarist also played on Rick Springfield
She is awesome. I lived 2 blocks away from her in Brooklyn New York. My best friends mother and Pats mother are sisters. 😉✌️
Thought she was from Long Island?
She's a legend 💯👑😍👍👍❤️
My memory of Pat Bennatr was my Mom and her friends listening to and dancing around the apartment. She was a teenage Mother and very rebelious. I miss those times with her.
Classic 80s song and video! My big sis absolutely loves this song. She still plays it daily and I remember when we were kids she memorized the videos choreography. Wonder if she still knows it lol.
Pat Benatar is five feet of nothing but dynamite. Her voice is simply amazing!
another BIG song! I love this one. and at this time, the channel MUST be on the brink of 200,000 Subbies!!!
This made its mark on popular culture - 40 years later we still shake our chests at each other in satirical imitation of this - and those we do it to always get the reference. Girl power!!
This video was directed by Bob Giraldi, who also directed Michael Jackson's "Beat It". This video makes me smile because it features Pat Benatar as the world's oldest teenager, she was 30 at the time.
She pulled it of well!
Absolutely love this song! Free up on it!
Pat Benatar is a vocal beast !!!!!!!!
I heard it as a kid...back in the day:)
Pat is phenomenal, there's also videos of her singing with Martina McBride they do some of both their songs. 2 power house voices, especially when they sing Martina's Independence Day Pat kills it and Martina looks at her like a fan it's sweet.
I feel bad for her brother, her mother & her character. I hope they get back together someday.
React to her You Better Run, Heartbreaker, Promises In The Dark, All Fired Up, Hit Me With Your Best Shot, Invincible, Shadows Of The Night & We Belong. Great reaction!
Pat is so amazing! Your mom has great taste! Awesome!!💜
I’m going to suggest probably my favourites... _Promises in the Dark & All Fired Up!!_
One a little before _Love is a Battlefield_ & one a little after.☺️
Thanks so much, India, for all the fantastic reactions!💗
Promises in the dark and You better run are my two favorites by Pat Benatar.
Love Pat Benatar what a rocker she is
One of the Greatest music performers of 70's-80's. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is invalid without her!
Anything Pat Benatar sings is golden. And your new hair style looks good. 👍👍
1983- This was something of a theme song for those I was around at the time. Freshman in college, first loves, Right before AIDS became a thing we had to worry about (it had started, but we were not directly affected yet) We were stretching our wings, finding our way and she was a strong role model for girls my age. Edit: really great song to show off her range is "Painted Desert".
Check out "You Better Run", "Promises in the Dark", "Heartbreaker" by Pat Benatar
Saw her just this past year on The View
Pat has an amazing voice. Miss talent like this nowadays.
This was one of MTV's best videos Pat Benatar she is great great song
The video is about teen runaway and the under world for girls especially that get trap..into prostitution...now listening to the song it goes into love relationship at a young age..teenage runaways... in the 70s and early 80s was going on alot..but your insight is very real..but the video told another story...love your reation.and the man in the video were she is leaving the house..that was her farther and the boy was her little brother...she talks about it in a interview of what happened in her real life with her strict farther and her farther wanted her to do something different then singing in a band and how they would get.into alot of arguments..she also talk about her relationship with on a guy she was dating in the band they end up marry still are together...but t was very rocky so this song is about that but the video is about her rocky relationship with her farther...they did make up before he passed away.
When Pat Benatar did this video as a runaway, she was already 30 years old.
Patricia Mae Giraldo (née Andrzejewski; born January 10, 1953), known professionally as Pat Benatar, is an American singer-songwriter and four-time Grammy Award winner. She has two RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums, five platinum albums, three gold albums, and 15 Billboard Top 40 singles, including the Top 10 hits "Hit Me with Your Best Shot", "Love Is a Battlefield", "We Belong", and "Invincible".[1] She was nominated for a 2020 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
She had a brief marriage to her high school sweetheart for a bit, but then met the love of her life Neil Giraldi, at the time a guitarist for the Rick Derringer band. They married in 1982, making them one of the longest-married couples in the industry at 38 years and counting.
Neil, in addition to playing guitar, also composers and producers for both Pat and other artists.
She’s a powerhouse! I have seen her live in concert twice, and she sounds just as good in concert, as in her music videos.
Shes the pride of Lindenhurst NY
"Hit me with your best shot is my favorite Pat Benatar song.
I first heard this as a kid (age 7-9) on long car journeys with my parents. It's very much a dad rock classic. Pat Benatar is a legend though, and this is a great song.
👍👍 Pat Benetar-"Hell is for Children." ✌❤
I saw her in concert very early in her career. She had no stage show. Not even much chit chat with the audience. But she sang every note even better live than on the recording.
One of the most powerful voices in music history...
If your mama likes this one she raised you right!!
Pat is a powerhouse!! It's hard to believe such a gigantic sound and amazingly big presence can come out of one if the teeny tiniest ladies I've ever met....
But according to Kenny Ortega who choreographed this video... Pat couldn't dance to the beat for shit... And all of her dance breaks he's on the floor JUST below the cameras view holding her ankles pulling her left and right where to step!!🤣😂😅🤣.
But that just makes me love her even more!!!
Yessssssss Pat Benatar is the greatest 👑🙌🙌
Pat Benatar's voice got so much better after these earlier hits. Try "Don't Walk Away". You can hear the difference as she got more comfortable with rock.
Killer bass on this track. Play this a lot!
I play a little bass myself and want to learn this. One of my all-time favorite bass lines.
Epic! One of the Biggest classics of the 80's! Love it! True story. The kid who plays her brother in real life actually ran away. The owner of the club is actually from broadway. The choreographer walking past her is in the short white shirt. Please react to "The Warrior" by Scandal ft. Patty Smyth.
Thriller's female version! Great song and reaction India!
Pat Benatar is Amazing! I didn't care for her at all back in the day. But I saw a live concert of her and she blew me away. Her vocals are far better now then when she hit the scene. And she's one of those rare cases where she is more beautiful as she aged then she was when young. She hated making this video as she can't dance at all, but I thought she did a good job. She has changed the song now it's quite different if you heard it live by her today.
Congrats on 200k!! Keep being positive !
Pat Benatar is the best singer I’ve ever seen live.
I Think She is talking about youth and heartbreak in general. She is representing all youth and the video is of a young strong woman fighting for her own right to fly free, leaving the parents home and searching for love.
Pat Benatar is such a badass. Underappreciated in my book. Listen up, people.
I love, love, love Pat!!! My favorite is "One Love".
I just want to say that I really love your spirit and I’m genuinely happy you are finding success. It’s nice when someone that deserves it finds success. ❤️
The guy who rides up the escalator then bumps into her is her real-life husband (lead guitarist) Neil Geraldo. They're still together. ❤
Congrats on 19K! Onward and upward from here!!!!
This song will always remind me of when my sister ran away at age 16. I was so scared and convinced I'd never see her again. I did of course, but this was (as sad as it sounds) when I realized how much my older sister meant to me.
She had a bunch of great songs.
As someone who left home at 16 ( left with just my clothes I was wearing) after an argument, life , love was tough , after many false starts I made a life for myself , I'm 40 now and closer to my mum now then through all those years ( no kids of my own ) , love is definitely a battlefield!!!
Great videos some of the parts of the video was filmed in Port Authority New York City and 42nd Street Pat Benatar one of the best singers of the 80s
Great song!
I love her.
You have to React to Pat and Neal’s love song “We Belong”.
I am a realist and understand that love doesn't always exist in the "Honeymoon" phase, but I feel it should not be a battlefield ever. Pat has an amazing voice. From what I remember she was classically trained as an Opera singer. They say she has a 4.5 octave range. She has a lot of amazing songs. She does an amazing cover of John Melloncamps song "I Need a Lover". Check it out.
So good pat benatar
