My understanding of Tess with the lighter is that she was losing her faculties very quickly. We see in Ep1 from a poster on a wall that a bite to the neck affects the host the most quickly, and we saw her hand was shaking uncontrollably even though she was trying to hide it. So her ability to move on her own was quickly deteriorating; I bet she wouldn't have been able to grab a grenade and set it off by the time the zombies all came flooding in, she could only just stay still as that one guy moved in to "kiss" her. She was already practically gone, and just had enough willpower left within her to flick her thumb on the lighter.

Wow.. the fact that she was almost gone at that point is so sad but actually a bit comforting in a sense... that she didn't experience the absolute terror of the situation fully (kiss and all) , maybe she was less scared because of it 💔😞

She knew she was bitten and did so many other things including tipping the grenades out. She could have grabbed one pulled the pin and held it till she wanted it to explode or couldn’t hold it any longer.
But it’s a tv show. So reality doesn’t really matter.

Since these are originally video game monsters, of course some are leveled up! lol. In the game these are called clickers, as time passes the cordyceps keep growing inside infected people and eventually start making their way out of the body(like through their eyes, ears, etc). For clickers the growth has completely enveloped their heads so it takes away their ability to see but they can hear super super well. The growth on the outside also acts a bit like a shield, so they are harder to kill.

They had a backstory for Tess that her husband and son got infected, and she had to kill her husband and locked her son away. So you can totally see that Tess is kinder to Ellie, and more open to have that motherly instinct toward her. It’s incredibly sweet. RIP Tess, and congrats to Anna Torv on her Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress!!!

I really love how you can tell that Joel is subconsciously already caring about Ellie, but he’s so resistant to love anyone (including Tess-as she says “I never asked you to feel the way I felt”)-he’s afraid to care because caring means more pain if you lose them, and he can’t bear that. He’s so broken/numb and stricken with grief, and Pedro plays that beautifully. You can see that Ellie is reminding him of Sarah, and that scares him…but will also bring him a lot of healing moving forward.
Also, side note: I highly recommend checking out interviews with Pedro and Bella together. I’m sure we’ll see more soon, but they’ve developed a very sweet and pure friendship off-screen, and it’s so nice to see, especially in Hollywood with such a large age gap between two people (Pedro is 48 and Bella is 20).

The stage of infection defines the type of infected person: runners (they still look human), pursuers (they already have exposed fungi), clickers (the fungus has already expanded beyond the brain and made them blind. They use the clicks to locate themselves). There are still two other stages. One of them remains to be seen this season.

  • @CMB21497
    @CMB21497 Місяць тому

The clicking is echo location, like a bat. Ayala is such a girl. Too funny. Ron is definitely the big brother.

I grew up near Boston and the museum looked so familiar; seen many like it as a kid.
Minus, you know, the fungus and bodies.

I love that this episode gives plenty of room for Tess and Ellie to bond. You can see that Ellie is starting to admire her... and why she doesn't want to leave her alone to die. Sad to lose Tess, but she made a big difference first.
I think you guys nailed the idea behind the infection progressing. The fungus consumes the host from the inside out, and some bodies are physically unable to sustain it long enough for it to reach more advanced stages, so the host dies. Infected in the early stages are much more focused on spreading the fungus to others, to keep it going, while they still have the full mobility of their human hosts (and then some, because the fungus isn't impacted by physical limitations that would stop humans from moving their limbs -- like wheelchair grandma in the first episode!).
As the infection progresses, the bodies lose some of their functioning (e.g. their limbs stiffening up, the mushroom growing out of their eyes and blinding them). But some bodies are big and strong enough that they keep going as the fungus keeps growing... and then they become something else entirely.

28:46 - one of the saddest things about a moment like this, is to think that with these older characters like Tess and Joel, they'd managed to survive _all this time,_ just to still get bitten. Ugh. They experienced the pain of losing the world, losing loved ones and friends, losing their own life that they knew before outbreak, and still persevered all. this. time.... Like every single risk is a roll of the dice, and every time you make it through an incident might feel like you're that much closer to a losing roll anyway. _For twenty years._ I can't imagine how grueling that feeling would be on your psyche, especially for people like Tess and Joel who have actively been smuggling and taking risks for so long, you know? Ugh. They'd be so damn weary.

There are 5 stages of Infected in this world. The two in the museum is stage 3 lol. 1+2 are “easy” to defeat but 3 gets extremely violent and will not infect you but kill you. The ones connected outside weren’t crawling, they were writhing at the sunlight. They probably were on the floor cuz of inactivity and just stayed in the same place

5:18 30 hours, 14 missing potential victims not counting Patient Zero with a time table of 5 minutes to 24 hours to full take over. That is terrifying. And that is why this Doctor made that poor Military man poop himself with one word: Bomb. 21:52 The jump scare is strong in this one, ten gold stars to the make-up department. Five Gold stars for the Actors as the Clickers. Five Gold stars for Set designers. 32:21 Tess is a Certified Badass, Most Badass of all the Badasses in the History of Badassiness. We are going to induct her into the Halls of Badassiness. Rest well you Badass.

I loved the Indonesia intro to this episode.both the scientist and the military officer are great actors; they really conveyed that everything was lost 30 hours ago and the world is ending. And it helps to show that the whole planet is dying, not just America.
I also like that they seem to imply that flour and grain are responsible for spreading it around the world, and causing such a large, fast outbreak. That was not really in the game, if I remember correctly, but it does make sense. Sarah and Joel had many chances to eat flour and wheat in the first episode, but they didn’t. No biscuits, no pancakes, no raisin cookies, no birthday cake, no cordyceps.

Some interesting facts about the evolution of The Last of Us' story: In the beginning, the infection would only affect women, so they convinced the writer to change that so as not to appear to be some kind of misogyny; In another phase of the story's development, Joel kills Tess's brother and she pursues him throughout her journey in search of revenge. This revenge story was reused in other characters in this and the next season; Zombies aren't actually zombies, they're infected people. They are still alive and we don't know if they are conscious or not when they are controlled by the fungus.

Just as a side note, the world’s largest flour mill is (or at least was as of a few years ago) located in Jakarta. That may be a reason why they picked Jakarta for that flashback.
One note for when you finish the show - Neil Druckmann, who wrote and directed the game and was very closely involved as one of the show runners, has done many interviews in which he explains a lot of background that was never explicitly stated in the game or show. It looks you guys are in Israel, so you may find interesting that Neil’s father lives there too. Neil talks about a conversation he had with his dad about a major event later in the story in which his dad makes a comparison to a situation involving Israel. I don’t want to get into controversial topics here, but I just wanted to mention it if you were interested after you finish.

@@thosesiblingssBella and Pedro were both on Game of Thrones, too! Their characters were in different seasons though, so their characters never crossed paths and they didn’t meet each other until filming The Last of Us. Pretty cool, though!
