  • The Cursing Seamstress reviews a pattern for her most recent make. Unfortunately, the pattern is not so great (spoiler). Anyway, she shows you how it turned out and what she did to try to save it. In the end, she decided to donate the blouse to some soul who will hopefully enjoy it.

I have made this 3 times and all look fabulous. I noticed yours is pulling under the arms and on the shoulders and I think this is a result of the alterations you made. I watched your video as both my sister and I found that the front and back seams that join onto the sides, the back and front are always at lease a centimetre longer. Easily corrected when doing the hem. Also with the button front, the self facing sloped up quite sharply and does not match the line of the neck. I thought I was losing it and couldn't work out why it was cut this way. Still have not worked it out, just cut it off to match the neckline. Looks good with sleeves as well. I made a size according to my high bust measurement.

I just ordered this pattern because of the way it looks so airy, loose and boxy. It reminds me of Eileen Fisher and Marcy Tilton designs so I thought I'd give it a go using a lightweight linen. I'll be using View A as I like wearing necklaces and buttons in front would make it too busy. I'll be pairing this top with lantern-styled pants also in linen. It's nice to see a garment on a real person so you can get a good idea of how the neckline and armseyes actually sit on the body...sometimes these hand drawn illustrations on pattern fronts can be deceiving. Great review, thanks!

I pulled out this pattern a couple weeks ago for the non-button version but, simple or not, I haven't started it because I don't want to have to fiddle with gaping armholes. Yours looked pretty high so maybe I'll give it a go. I think the shirting might have resulted in a smockish look but the fit and finish was great. Someone will score a well made top they'll get a lot of use out of this summer. Thanks for the review!

I didn't think it was too bad! I think it needed another button, though. Not down at the bottom, but just factored in with the others, keeping the bottom button in the same place.

A shame it didn't work out - it's always sad when you put the work into making something that doesn't turn out. Hopefully it will find a new owner who will love it.

Haya. Its a real shame the top did not work out for you. Hope someone else gets some wear out of it. Unfortunate when we sew something & it does not quite work out. Thank u for sharing.
