Thank you Rob, somebody finally noticing the Giant emtb range, seem to be forgotten by other media outlets, don’t know why as they are excellent bikes, with very few issues with reliability, I have a 2017 dirt-e hardtail and it still rides like new. Great unbiased content, keep it up.
Finally arrived! I've been really looking forward to your video/opinion about this bike! I got mine one week ago and I totally fell in love. Nice review, thanks Rob!
Great video even 2 years on. I’m getting my first not only e-mountain bike but first proper mountain bike ever on my 55th birthday in 8 weeks. Going from riding a semi trail e-bike ..the surface 604 mainly used on road and light gravel trails to pre ordering the 2023 Giant Trance X E+1 advanced. Just can’t wait. Even though a lot has changed with the bike in 2 years there is a lot I can take from this video. Cheers
this is my go to EMTB channel, also his forums pure quality. I dont know why he isnt large yet. i bet it will take off soon ! Perhaps extra content about trails/locations is a good addition if thats possible.
Rob is not a good enough rider to review bikes. However, having spent over a century within the world of bike media most of the riders that are doing the reviewing aren't.
I'm more of a monster travel rider myself but WOW, what a video and review Rob. Unbelievable production and editing and solid review. You're the only channel doing really based independent eBike reviews that aren't cringey due to obvious manufacturer sponsorship of said other channels
Have to hand it to you and whoever else is involved in the production of these videos mate they are top notch. Production quality and content couldn't be any better
Been riding emtb here In NZ for the last few years. The Trance is a sweet bike with a couple of issues. The hub on the older models used to crap out a fair bit, never had any water ingress issues. Upgraded to the reign e and wow what an amazing bike! Its a bit heavy but components and ride are amazing value for money.
Got this trance with lower spec for a last year! It's bullet proof! Goes trough everything like hot knife through butter.. mud, massive stones.. Not a single problem yet.. Even when washing it carefully with power jet.. Best spend money ever.
Great video and perfect analytics Rob, thank you. Here in Canada BC I just bought the last 2021 Giant Stance XE + Pro29 3 this morning, even before watching your video. I am very excited about my first ever e mountainbike purchase and glad to hear that you are very positive all round. They have to ship it to me from the mainland, $200 extra but so worth it. What would I do without. Good timing cause there are none available in the near future, from any brand, 2021 bikes are almost all gone. A good friend of mine has two first generation Giant's e mountainbikes, 2015 and 2016, I sure lost my virginity last year on those already fantastic bikes and had a lot of practice. Greetings and happy riding guys!
I tested this bike. Very good traction. Very good geometry. The engine was impetuous, touched the pedals and immediately forward. I couldn't get used to it. Besides, a pretty good bike for decent money.
Great review.... 2021 Giant Trance X E+ Pro 3 I purchased this bike in November of 2020 and loved the bike. But, in September of 2021 I began experience error codes on the controller which led to a dead bike. I would reset the controller by turning it off and on again to resolve the issue for a short time. This problem became more prominent where I couldn't ride the bike. I brought the bike to the dealer and they replaced the controller after waiting for 3 months. Unfortunately, the problem still persisted. They contacted Giant and they were going to send a new wiring harness, however, giant told them it would be 24 weeks until the new one arrived🤬 I was extremely disappointed with Giant's total lack of customer service. Giant seems more interested in selling new bikes then warranty and fix the bikes they already sold.
Gotta say, the production on this video is bloody awesome Rob. The efforts you are putting in to every video is really paying off! Bike looks nice too :)
Great job, man You’re a great reviewer and youtubeer made my decision easier. I purchased the trance e3, and I love it lifting my spirits. Thank you for the demand.
Beautiful cold video. 32 degrees centigrade here in New Zealand summer lol. Me and my wife both have 2019 E+1 and the yamaha engine is so good and reliable (listen up brose). Also it's good you mentioned the quality of the battery and charging system. That Fox suspension is so dam good as well. Our plan was to get new Giant E bikes this year but ours are so good we will keep them for at least another year.
Bought a Stance E+ 2 for wife. Most impressed with how quiet motor is compared with my Rail 5 and £1300 cheaper too. Had Giant Anthem manual bikes for 8 years. Very impressed.
Another great review. I've been forwarding your Alpine Trail E review to customers and now I can forward this. It will fit well with how I have been recommending the bikes - essentially pushing people towards the Alpine Trail if they want a more traditional feel or especially if they swap back and forth between regular and Emtb. The Trance seems like a great option for a full-time emtb rider and people who will appreciate the extra stability and climbing performance of a longer chainstay.
Great video Rob. Such a pro production. I'm still a Yamaha fan and mine on the Haibike has never let me down. That Giant looks lovely. The whole package and great value too. 470mm Chainstays though. Eeek.
Used to have a reign E+ and the ground clearance was such a problem. After two replacement motor cases and gut wrenching cracks collecting big rocks I gave up. Always think clearance should be something we pay attention to on eebs. Did you have any issues like this Rob?
Thanks for this video, I tried an earlier version at a test day and I was very impressed with the way the maestro suspension felt so natural and better than all the other bikes I have tried. I have a Bulls with a brose motor and love the bike but the only bike I would consider is the giant maestro setup as a replacement. Sometimes bikes feel right, I will try and get a ride on the new version, looking at the specs the version 2 has better shifters (smoother)
I’m seriously looking at this bike for 2022 I’m from the UK (Chichester ) so riding in the South Downs I know the conditions you rode in and the wet roots which can be very slippery I now live in Michigan so because of the extreme cold ( down to -15 / -20 ) in Jan and Feb riding doesn’t start till March, I’m 63 and have ridden since in my 20’s I’m so looking forward to the new bike to assist my riding here on in. Thanks for the review
Surely Giant, the biggest bike manufacturer in the world can bring us internal gears? I just broke my second deraileur and it bugs me that this old technology is still being used. How about Giant buys out Pinion?. E Bikes are a major schism, we are ready, at least on Ebikes, for internal gears. Very nice video production, well done.
Great stuff, that you Rob. That is the exact same model/size bike I was looking at for the last month. For the price of 4.900 € at my local dealer it is by far best price/performance i guess. Because I dont have experience with ebikes I will ride/test the X2 model that they give to try as soon as shops open because of virus.
Superbly made video. Now riding the Trance E+ 2 and love it. Just as good as my Kenevo and better in spec. 625 is a perfect battery size and the price is excellent.
The long waiting has payed off. Thanks very much for this video Rob and for Giant to make it possible. Quality work and very good advert for Giant. I'm telling you as a satisfied Giant Trance X E+ Pro 2 owner and a Giant retailer in Budapest / Hungary. :) Can I link this video on my webshop at this bike?
Great bike! It proves, that not exactly the amount, but the quality of the suspension is what really matters. Love your in depth reviews Rob. Im looking at buying a Trance X E+ 3 29 at a local shop Im wondering if the suspension would be nearly as good as your test bike which appears to be the +1 model is there anything else thats a downgrade from the +1 to the +3 ?
Great review. Incredibly useful, thank you. Seriously thinking of upgrading to e mtb from my Giant Stance. What are your thoughts on the Trek Rail 7 or 9 versus the Trance?
Hi Rob, brilliant video 👍 come to really enjoy your channel. Can I ask, if you where to buy one which one would you have? Haibike allmn 7 or this new Giant E bike? I will hopefully get chance one day to try both before buying, but as you’ve rode both I’m curious which you’d go for and why? Kind Regards Lewis
I love this bike! However no near dealer here in sout west of france... Do electric bikes suffer the fract that you need service shops nearby, due to the technology dependance?
Looks good Rob, never ridden a Yam powered bike, but the motor seems comparable with the Bosch on my bike. As for the rest of the bike, I’d love to try one out, and if I could afford it, I’d swap bikes every few months just so I could ride all the awesome bikes out there.
Maestro suspension has always provided great support and feedback. I rode an Anthem over a decade ago and that with only 100mm travel was super capable due to the kinematic. I’m a little mixed over front centre vs chain stay length. Seems manufacturers are too. Reach looks quite short or is that lankitis ? Did you find you had to load the front at all for traction ? Seems Giant have gone for a central weighted ride...light hands. Whopping chainstays mind. Maybe technique to get the bike around corners ....go in extra wide ? Trails there look great vs here in sth Wales. I’m hardly going out as very sketchy and don’t want to add to hospital loads ! Super review guys.
Do you think a beginner like me would notice a large difference between the Trance X E+ 1 and the lower end Trance X E+ 3? The latter is priced around what I'm comfortable to spend on an eBike. Also I'm pretty tall and heavy, not sure if I need to spend the extra bucks on better parts as I won't be driving too aggressively anyway
@@nightking1863 The cost difference is how much, $600? If your 100% sure you wont be pushing your, or your bikes limits, then the 3 is perfect! Pocket the cash or use it to buy spare chains and cassettes. I've owned 2 Fox DPS shocks, and they both felt awesome for trail riding!-they both failed. Granted... I got in alot of miles before they failed. The Deore 12 speed is being highly reviewed. The fork is solid. I wasnt a fan of the old MC damper (maybe this ones better) but, you said your not going to be pushing it, so I'm sure it's way beyond good enough for trail riding. Just make sure to get one! Emtb's are next level fun.
Have you seen or ridden the new 2022 giant reign e bike yet? I have the trance e+0 and love it. Quite keen on the reign tho, thanks for a great review 👍👍
Hey Rob have been looking at the Giant 2021 Trance X E+ 3 Pro 29er or the Merida eOne Sixty 700 2021 both competitive priced eMtn bikes , you have any thoughts ?
Rob I used to love giant until I bought a ebike giant and I was washing it and it stopped working becase there not water proof and customer service was so rude!
Another fantastic review - thanks Rob. I know aesthetics are subjective, but it is a handsome package and doesn’t - if it matters to anyone - shout its eebness. But, holy switchbacks Batman, 470mm chainstays! Four hundred and seventy! Probably a megabike rival for the Scott Ransom 910 E-ride, but not for the more nimble Trek Rail 9 or the Marin Alpine Trail E2...?
I have the 2020 reign E+ 2 and think it is a great bike, however the low hung and forward motor constantly gets bashed up on my local enduro trail where it it quite rocky. It is the one thing that I think giant really messed up with on these bikes vs other brands that have managed to minimise the motor drop to close to the size of the chainring. Has anyone else experienced my issue? What have you done to overcome it? I'm worried about damaging the motor but can't find anything aftermarket to replace the motor covers, or add a bash guard etc.
@@RobRidesEMTB North West Rob. Tried all the major chains and lots of independents. Have a budget of 6k, but no stock of Whyte, Cube, Merida or other things I like in my size
Have they sorted the water ingress issues out, bought last years in may, spent 3 months in shop, battery shims, new wiring harness, then water in cables from ride control. Ended up getting refund and got cube stereo, which in my opinion is worth the extra money. To be fair giant were great when I spoke to them. Knew about the above issues
Hi Richard. I can only share that my experience riding it was in wet icy and freezing conditions on each ride. Washed regularly with Worx portable bike pressure washer too. No issues this far.
What do you guys think of the bike? Let me know below!
Ebikes are awesome and the Trance is such good value for the money. It out performs the Trek Rail 9.7 in every way in my opinion.
More impressed with the filming and editing 👏
Hi rob. Great video again. What psi was you running in the front fork and rear shock please.
The bike is probably alright, but I was mostly impressed with the editing. You have stepped up a few notches!
I don't see how I could ever buy an electric 150/140mm trailbike. I'd only buy an ebike as a personal shuttle to get more downhill laps in less time.

Hey, great review Rob! How was the fit of the bike? As I'm 6ft 4" and I have a XL cube stereo on order... You may have changed my mind🤔
@@davidmstephenson69 I do love the look of the cube! How tall are you mate?
@@davidmstephenson69 I was bit worried it may be too small for me, but sounds fine. Should in by the end of March! Can't wait😎
On your 'drops to flat' testing, it appeared that the rear tire was making contact with the seatpost.
Hi Rob, with hearing today from my LBS that Cube are sold out for 2021 and early '22, could this be a Stereo 140 alternative?
Your local trails are Surrey hills ? Lucky fella , went there recently was such a good ride
Rob I used to love giant until I bought a ebike giant and I was washing it and it stopped working becase there not water proof and customer service was so rude!
I haven’t seen any reviews mention endurance “battery life” or typical distance on charge?
Another fantastic review - thanks Rob. I know aesthetics are subjective, but it is a handsome package and doesn’t - if it matters to anyone - shout its eebness.
But, holy switchbacks Batman, 470mm chainstays! Four hundred and seventy!
Probably a megabike rival for the Scott Ransom 910 E-ride, but not for the more nimble Trek Rail 9 or the Marin Alpine Trail E2...?
Would buy it tomorrow if it weren’t so ugly. Modern at the front, really retro looking at the rear.
Why these manufacturer's make only pedal assist why not full electric mode too
If they do I would buy one .
instead of those bolt on kits
Because trail regulations
I have the 2020 reign E+ 2 and think it is a great bike, however the low hung and forward motor constantly gets bashed up on my local enduro trail where it it quite rocky.
It is the one thing that I think giant really messed up with on these bikes vs other brands that have managed to minimise the motor drop to close to the size of the chainring.
Has anyone else experienced my issue? What have you done to overcome it? I'm worried about damaging the motor but can't find anything aftermarket to replace the motor covers, or add a bash guard etc.
Hi Rob, how do you rate this PWX2 motor compared to the EP8? I'm thinking maybe my next motor will be Yamaha since I find Bosch too loud.
PWX2 definitely feels more powerful but its a bit bigger and heavier
@@RobRidesEMTB Thanks. Both seem reliable and with good pedal feel?
Great review & video
Great video, thanks for sharing
Nice line you ride Rob!
Hi rob. Love your show. Im looking to buy a lapierre GLP2 Elite size medium. Do you know anyone with stock. ?
Shame you can’t buy one anywhere!
Long time biker, looking for my first E bike in 2021. Love the channel Rob 👍🏻 have sub’d
Cheers Mike. Pretty sure some UK dealers have stock, where abouts are you?
@@RobRidesEMTB North West Rob. Tried all the major chains and lots of independents. Have a budget of 6k, but no stock of Whyte, Cube, Merida or other things I like in my size
Let us know when it won’t turn on after a wash
What fox pants?are they awesome?
Have they sorted the water ingress issues out, bought last years in may, spent 3 months in shop, battery shims, new wiring harness, then water in cables from ride control. Ended up getting refund and got cube stereo, which in my opinion is worth the extra money. To be fair giant were great when I spoke to them. Knew about the above issues
Hi Richard. I can only share that my experience riding it was in wet icy and freezing conditions on each ride. Washed regularly with Worx portable bike pressure washer too. No issues this far.
@Rob Rides EMTB how would you see this one for Downhill?
