- This is a rundown of some of the things I've learned while living in Alaska. I also included a tour of Ketchikan, AK.
I've worked at Ketchikan High School (kayhi) as an AmeriCorps VISTA.
Love going back to the classics
I applied to VISTA programs in your area so I appreciate your videos! Thank you!
A community that's supportive. The summers are the best for wildlife. Our rainforest isn't much of a rainforest anymore. If you visit, bring your camera.
Thanks for serving our country.
You have a great outlook on life.
Nice video. Beautiful town. Enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to going out there next summer. Thanks for sharing this.
This video makes me SO homesick. And xtratuffs FTW!
It's been a honor. I have met so many good people, I feel very lucky to have been chosen to be a VISTA at Kayhi.
hey man i live in ketchican to your dam right about the boots and rain jackets every one in town has them they are a necessity here
Contact the Remax ofice in KTN. I found a GREAT rental place when I moved to Ketchikan through Remax.
You just need to know how to shop in Alaska. If you want what you want when you want it, you're going to pay out the nose, but you can find what you need when it's there (and on sale). I buy a lot in bulk when things are on sale. With a bit of smart shopping, I spend less here than I did in WA state or TX.
living in "the bush", remote areas of Alaska :)
I live there and I'm native Alaskan
EVERYTHING in Alaska is expensive, even in Anchorage- but in the Bush communities...it is insane!!
Prices in Anchorage:
Loaf of Bread: $2.49
Gallon of Milk: $3.88
Gallon of Gasoline: $2.40 (and to us, this is CHEAP)
Average New Home: $239,000.00
New Car: $21,750.00
In my opinion, just at the words "if you are lucky" next to each of those prices.
also the usual cost to live in Connecticut
awesome dude! moving there in june and this was helpful
Are you still there and if you don't mind, what made you move there? My son is attempting to live there and I want to visit soon.
Demcad, what happened to all of your alaskan videos? Alot of them appear to
to be missing.
Classic DEMCAD clips.
Yes. With some AmeriCorps programs you can not have two jobs. There are also some other things you can't do, like volunteer for a political campaign (and things along that line)
LOL, people wear Xtra Tuffs from cradle to grave :)
have been watching your channel for a while and am thinking about moving out to Alaska. from what i can gather, Anchorage and Ketchikan (sp?) are the best cities to live. which do you feel is more ripe with opportunity?? iv already got a few possible jobs lined up in Anchorage but have heard some things about Ketchikan as well. any advice would be appreciated, thanks :)
correction: ADD the words "if you are lucky"....
my uncle is black and living here.yaaa
Alaska seems like a very interesting place. I'v always wanted to visit. How is it living in there for an African American?
I feel as though I am the one who has benefited from my year of service.
When are you leaving!
what did u mean when u said u cant get another job? does that mean you cant have to jobs?
Stop making UA-cam video's and go to the nearest Doctor and leve his office with Xzanax. It will really help you.
