@@KenJones1961 And likewise. That gave a very good visual representation of how you move a pick inside the lock. I think it is a good teaching aid as well as a good picking tool.
That was really interesting from a beginner’s point of view. Having the cut markings at the back there & being able to operate it with your finger tip gives a really cool perspective of how you’re moving your pick & what’s going on inside the lock while you’re picking, which isn’t so easy to see with standard pin tumbler picks. Thanks Bill!
It’s accurate. Least kwickset ones. I’ve rekeyed a lock a number of times knowing the pins in different orders testing how well it picks. But it decodes right on the money
I know you channel is teaching me when I’m yelling 2! When you were bouncing back between 1 and 3. I thoroughly enjoy watching your videos! Great explanations. Thumbs up to you sir
I have been using these for years on vehicles and to help you may get better tension control by using the swing out arm as it’s designed for that and allows pressure to be adjusted really easily.
Love your videos Bill! With the lishi use your middle finger to adjust counter rotation and a it works like a treat! Great tools. I’m a locksmith sad sac that thinks these should be restricted because of ease of use. Taught my GF to open my front door in 5 minutes with this. Lovely tools! Locky from Australia Love your work.
hi Bill hope you are well , i just got my first two lishi's and i noticed that the cases interlock with each other with the channels that are on the sides never seen anyone say anything about that i think it is cool
I remembered seeing these somewhere but could never remember where, these would be great for learning your pick depth (I think). great video as always.
These Lishi picks seem soo easy to use in your hands, Bill. I really want to get a hold of one eventually and give it a shot, but ~$100 is pretty steep! lol
That was too cool!! I was doing pretty good with my lock picking when I was holding the locks in my hand, but when I started using the vice to hold the lock to simulate the lock being in a door, the picking got really difficult and I basically had to go back to just the regular pins and take out all of the security pins. So I keep practicing. Lol.
I don't pick a LOT of American padlocks (maybe one or two a year) but I just ordered this pick, based just on how easy the SC1 is to use. I picked up the SC1 Lishi a couple of months ago, I didn't think I'd use it except for the the F series levers with the top T pins (PITA)... The more I played with it though the more I love that tool... ESPECIALLY for the decoding without taking the lock apart. NOW if Lishi would only make an S22/LA (which should be easy enough from how it works) and picks for the Y1 and Y2 keyways (which might be too paracentric for the design, but a locksmith can hope, right?)
Hmmm interesting. so; I guess it looks like future Locksmiths will indeed have access to a set of, Lishi 2-in-1 Pick/Decoders for all the major keyways at this rate... Wonder what's next? 🤔
With the ease of action, I'm thinking something like this could well be used as the basis for a completely automated robo-picker. Just slide it in and turn on, and the robo-picker does all the work of tensioning and picking, with highly sensitive sensors detecting the feedback and making very precise movements. I suspect this is doable with current tech, but It would probably be too expensive currently, but within a few years the tech might become affordable enough to be practical.
Lishi will only ever be for the wide open keyways. Try drawing up a tool like this for a paracentric or wavey keyway and you will realize it cannot work.
I heard my boss talking about these might get one and try it out. Decoding a lock without taking the time to impression or gut could save time. Never mind, after watching the whole video I don't want one lol.
Bill, there's a serious problem with the Lishi picks for AM profiles. The top rail of the blade is too high and it lifts any #8 key pins. It also affects the #7 pins to some degree as well. See the BoredLockPicker's channel for a video where we worked this out.
Might be cheaper than the previous models as they believe they'll move more stock and/or have been able to reduce production costs with expanded production.
Aliexpress has these on sale right now for like 10-12 bucks. Shipping is 8 dollars and will take 30+ days to arrive but it's like an 80 dollar discount if you're ok with waiting. I bought like 6 different ones 🤣
The european key ways are not as open. However dimple picks are available, but lishi has not made them. I use lishi picks exclusively on cars. Many times I have picked the lock, yes they are all springy why isn't it open... Oh yes I just need to turn it. Picking tension and turning tension are two different things when using these types of tool.
Hi Bill...Hope your well...I'm from the UK and can't find out if they fit Yale locks fitted to most UK locks ...Do you have any Yale lock you could try the sc4 on...Finding it very difficult to find any info....Many thanks for your time sir...
Hello one and all. I live in the U.K., and I would like to know what model of these picks would work best for the most common house locks that are been used in the U.K. Bye for now. From Knobby
I think they are pretty expensive. Considering the tip will break within few first picks for new users. They should send it with some extras for that price
When I first started picking locks, my friend handed me an American that he didn't know I already had a key for and said, "Bet you can't get this" and he went back to doing whatever he was doing in the shop. Straight up snuck that key out after about 30 seconds and handed it back to him open. He still thinks I am some bad ass lock picking savant, I still think I do ok, but after watching you and LPL.... Ha, I suck.
The tool you showed is Original Lishi brand where as the thumbnail shows the "Genuine Lishi" brand. Original is still innovating new things like these pin tumbler picks while Genuine is a result of a falling out. It's a bit of a weird history.
Hey Bill, do to have any absolute beginner videos on SPP?? I've muddled my way thru a few cheap Chinese locks, a Master #3 and a few others raking, even my front deadbolt. But I've got this older American 1400 series I believe that I cannot make open and I cannot seem to get the right tension to even attempt SPP.. also first pin is a serrated keypin. The big issue even trying to rake it open is it has an insane spring in it. I've made a few wiper tensioners but I'm guessing I need a good set of top of keyway tensioners if I want to keep attempting SPP.. any input to get me started is greatly appreciated.. it's just a hobby so I don't want to break the bank. Maybe one day I'll actually win one of your weekly kits. I am getting one of the practice keyways you always show off soon just need a good vise as well. Thanks for all the great videos!!
Hey, big fan from Germany here. Where do I know which Lichi tool is the right one if Im not in american style or car locks? :) There is no such thing as a product explaination what the difference between SC1 Schlage 5 Pin Lishi SC4 Schlage 6 Pin Lishi KW1 Kwikset 5 Pin Lishi AM5 America 5 Pin Padlock Lishi M1/MS2 Master 5 Pin Padlock Lishi exactly is as it seems to be almost all of them are for 5 pin locks? I just bought a lock pick on amazon... the picks broke on my lock. I looked on your website and it said don't buy buy off Amazon because they are cheap. You are 100% right. I have a quick question for my next set- what pick handle is good for feedback?
From 3:05, Bill discusses the need for the tab to be properly seated (allowing tension to be applied properly). With the shorter locks, this wouldn't be possible.
There are: 8^(6)=262144 combinations if this tool is right. With an electronic system the picking could be done much easily. To open the lock it could take 262144 × 0.01s = 2621.44 s = 43 min. Not very fast. I think the age of mechanical lock has ended.
There are much less combinations than that because of MACS. Two adjacent cuts cannot differ more than a certain amount or the key would look like a square wave. For example a 7 pin 7 depths lock has only 100 000 combinations. A good quality car lock has 10 000 combinations.

That is easily the coolest and most useful pick design ive seen in a minute
I wouldn't use it for work, but something to play around with its pretty cool
It would be interesting to see a key, cut to the specs the Lishi showed, open the lock.
Please do this

There's all kinds of videos of people decoding with the Lishi 2 in 1 pick and cutting keys on UA-cam already.👍

This is the most visual lockpicking video I've seen, they're always interesting though, it's nice to see some of what's going on.
This video really gave me a very good idea on what you really "feel" when you're picking a lock and what happens when e.g. hitting a spool.
Thanks!

Thanks for the very easy to follow demonstration. I see why people get excited about the Lishi now.
Like how all the cases slide together
Very nice demo showing fineness and delicacy needed to pick serrated and spool pins. Thank for sharing Mr. Bill...

Yes. The tensioner can be removed with a small allen wrench that is provided with each pick. It is removable and can swing around the other direction.
