I loaded 900 rounds of .44 Russian. I found a bunch of available brass and lee had dies. 240 grain SWC. These are traveling at over 800 fps. Nothing wrong with the Russian.
Maybe a target load 45 acp if you are shooting an antique. Original BP load was 750fps with a 246 grain bullet at 360 foot pounds so definitely no slouch in power even by modern standards.
Remember to check it to be sure it's a 44 Special. Mine is but other manufacturers could be chambering them in 44 Russian. This is a really nice pistol. Everyone who has tried it loves it.
I’ve got three (2 of which get a lot of CAS use). Now, you got me thinking about checking them out. Maybe, I’d get away with just reloading 44 spl for these as well as my carbine.
Ammosmith Reloading yeah so what would a well made gunsmith do? if the caliber is to powerful make the hinges made for the caliber. Am I right on that?
Ammosmith Reloading yes that’s what I was trying to say. The lock on the top if possible should have a new lock that’s on top of the frame should be made for the power of the .44 mag. So that away the guns lock doesn’t fall down or break from the kick of the .44 mag
4 years later we have the same issue. The sell them as Russians yet at least some seem to be specials. The Russian is a fine round but while most 44 Magnum rifles will feed specials fine most will not feed Russians. So for CAS one would want specials so that you don't have to keep ammo separated. It would be a shame to order two $1300-$1500 pistols just to have to go to the trouble and expense of rechambering them.
My two from Navy Arms are about 1/8" short of chambering a .44 spl, but it would be a simple matter to fix that with a chamber reamer if you were so inclined.
A solid educational video for the Smith & Wesson Model 3 Russian First Model, in .44 chambering... thanks for the video.
I always wondered why I've never seen any 44 special factory ammo labeled 44 special +P.. I wish the manufacturers would specify that.
I have had them in both, I love the Classic 44 Special for a bush carry gun.
Beautiful gun I never knew existed. Thanks, man!
Classy looking revolver!

It's a neat little bullet. I liken it to a 45 ACP in power roughly.
Dyes

This is good news. I've been looking for one of these in .44 Special and can only find .44 Russian.

definitely phone cimarron and uberti
What cartridge is the gun marked for?
my pair’s chambers were cut too short for 44 spl. i’m interested in figuring how long ago these were made.
Great video thank you sir.

What if uberti or any remodeled old west gun company would make a schofield cambered in .44 mag/.44 special
The design itself isn't strong enough. It's a hinged frame and not a soiid frame. I'd love to see that though.

@@Texo_McKevo I think with modern steels and a beefier action they could do it.
I thought the 45LC's couldn't handle full power cartridges, could one of these?
No. It's the older design and not so much the material. Only the Ruger Blackhawks can take the real heavy loads.
@@ammosmith how about a model 29-2 smith and wesson
The 44 Russian is nothing to sneeze about. I would not stand in the way!.

HOLA CUANTO VALE EL REVOLVER TENGO UNA IGUAL Y QUIERO SAVER CUANTO ESTA
the shorter russian can hold a 300 grain bullet
It might not fit a 255 grain bullet on special,
the special being more long range

Rob Johnson that would be dimensionally correct - for .44 russian
Is this a .44 Russian???
Las vainas del 44 special despues de 4 o 5 recargas, las recorto al 44 Russian y listo
45 colt will shoot 45 scofeild
Yes it will! Same like the 44 Magnum will shoot 44 Special and 44 Russian
@@ammosmith and 454 casull will shoot 45colt and 45scofeild
