Thanks! Both my grandpa and grandma were grandparents to the entire neighborhood! Everyone called them grandma and grandpa! They were the kind of people where everyone was welcome at their house! Any visitor would be invited to have a little snack of cookies, crackers and cheese, tea or coffee, or a soda in the kitchen. Always a warm and inviting place!

The memories this video stirred up for me. My grandpa was also a shoe cobbler. I don’t remember his shop as well, as I was very small, and we lived 200 miles away, so I didn’t get to spend a lot of time with him there. I do remember the machinery, and all the little boxes of heels. And several chairs for everyone that came by to visit. Thanks for the trip.

That is awesome! I was privileged to live close to my grandparents, in this case, within walking distance! Both of my parents worked, so I was at my grandparent's house every day! They always had something going on. My grandfather was still employed at the local feed mill during the day and repaired shoes in the evening and on weekends. I loved to watch him work on shoes! My grandma was at home. She had 2 large gardens and a small farm on the back property. She was also a caregiver of her mother (my great-grandmother) who lived in the next town! I loved the end of summer when my grandma would bottle everything in her garden. The house would fill with the aroma of jams, jellies, pickles, and tomato sauces! Wonderful memories!

They were men of an era... Bib overalls were the work pants of America in those days. My grandpa had his work bibs, but he also had newer bibs for going places. He always wore them! I suppose because they stayed in place better than pants! My grandma even wore house dresses with an apron back in the early days.. She did begin to wear dress pants and a camp shirt when she discovered this attire was more comfortable and stylish in later years. Thanks for watching!

That is so neat! In the town where I grew up we had a shoe shop and repair I remember watching Mr. Goff while he was working on shoes. I think you have done a wonderful job of recreating your grandfather's shop it has that feel of reality to it.
One day before summer vacation the sole came off my shoe so I popped into Mr.Goff's shop after school. He growled at me for not taking better care of my shoes as he put new soles on both of my shoes while I waited. To pay for the repairs I had to mow his lawn four times. He also gave me a note to give my parents telling them why I was late.

@@karynfelix-the-Cat it's fun for me to watch these videos... I never know what memory they will stir up. Oh Mr. Goff put work boot soles on my shoes because he knew I would be out pushing lawnmower over the summer... I had waffle stompers before they were popular. I was 13 six feet tall and 125 pounds at the time. I wore those shoes for two more years.

Again, I love the way you detail the interior of your buildings and cars. When I was modeling in HO years ago I had to build my buildings with floors and walls and interior details, so that when people looked at or into my buildings they would see that the building was more than a hollow structure and they wouldn't be able to see the bottom windows from the top windows. Instead they saw that there were many more things to see inside, like cabinets, chairs, tables and beds, even bathrooms. Offices, all kinds of different details that many other buildings didn't have. I once built a brewery with all the copper brewing pots and bottling equipment. What I loved most was when people were looking at the buildings, they were noticing the difference between my buildings were more detailed than all of the other buildings on the club layout and they asked why there were so few buildings that were as good as mine. Even though they didn't know that I was the one who made all the detailed stuff.

Great modeling skills! And good memory of her childhood. I loved going to my grandfather’s barbershop where he and my dad were barbers in the early 1950’s. It was a tiny yellow hexagon shaped “shack” with 2 ornate barber chairs. I even remember how it smelled in there: talcum powder, witch hazel, and steam from the hot towel machine. An old style water cooler with cone shaped paper cups. Her work is inspiring me to model that barbershop!
