Mammoth: The Largest Horse in the World!

This Shire gelding named Mammoth (also known as Sampson) was born in 1846 in Bedfordshire. He was over 7ft tall and weighed around 3360 lb (1524 KG). The Shire breed originating from Henry II of England (reigned from 1154-1189) desired a horse capable of carrying a knight in heavy armor. The weight could exceed 400 pounds, challenging many horses. To meet this need, selective breeding was encouraged, leading to the creation of the Shire horse breed. Kingdoms and governments used Shire horses as war horses, while farmers employed them for plowing fields, hauling equipment, and other farm tasks. Despite their size, Shire horses are gentle giants, prized for their calm temperament and reliability. Each Shire horse embodies strength and grace.
