  • Striping with the Swardman reel mower is very easy to do, and they stand out even at less than an inch! I'm still getting used to using this mower, but every time I do it feels better and better!

    Yep, you will get addicted to this machine. Look closely at the blades of grass. That even line on that grass blade will less likely turn brown resulting in a greener looking lawn. Also The Honda rotary is an awesome mower, rotary mowers leave jagged edges which encourages disease. By mowing lower, less chance of fungus disease if lawn in watered between 5am and 9am. My best results with my reel mower was mowing before 9 am, when grass was still slightly damp. It helps on reel life because the dampness lowers the temp on the blades. You have inspired me over the past two years. Mowing is the greatest therapy! You are an artist! Keep up the great vedios!

      Thanks! I tried reel mowing today wet grass and it actually did it like a champ. And yes I have seen the difference between the brown tips and none with the reel.

    I would be top dressing that front lawn before even attempting to put that beautiful mower over it

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому

      Well I've got to deal with that in the back, long term the front will be too high for the reel

  • @gregau21
    @gregau21 6 років тому

    Do you notice it cuts the grass much cleaner than a rotary? I'm on the fence whether to buy one or not. Would love your review of it.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому

      Yes it definitely does, but not at the higher heights because it doesn't suck up the grass blades. So if you are doing a low cut it's for sure worth it, but if you want it tall then a rotary is the way to go.

  • @onewiththings
    @onewiththings 6 років тому

    Besides being self driven, are there any advantages over the push reel mower you used in the past? Could you do a comparison on the cut quality?

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому +1

      Great idea! Short story - the reel being powered means it's always running full speed. The manual depends on your momentum so when you start/stop it doesnt spin as fast reducing the cut quality

    Unfortunately rollers always slide on slopes. I'm not sure the rubber would make any difference. Nice stripes though! Back lawn looks amazing considering the amount it gets used by the kids! My roller mower has a split roller, it helps a lot when making turns. You'll find that your lawn levels off better by using a roller, a lot less bumps etc. Look forward to the next update!

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому +1

      Yes this one has a split rear roller as well. I do plan on leveling the back when I get the chance!

    Are you still happy with the Edwin ? What are the cons to buy one ?

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  3 роки тому +1

      I sold it because I couldn't keep up with reel mowing. I think the biggest con is the width, other reel mowers are much wider so if you have a larger area it's that much more to cut. But otherwise I was happy with the machine I just couldn't keep up mowing daily!

  • @ushersports3076
    @ushersports3076 6 років тому

    That price tag is a little too steep for me , So what ive been trying out this year is to cut with the cheap manual reel mower at 2" and then once finished Go over the whole thing with My craftsman rotary motor with striper connected set at a higher height . The rotary mower set at the higher height is just used to cleanup and stripe.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому

      Yeah I was trying to use the manual reel last year. They still work just have to get the momentum going!

      Grass Daddy you’ll get addicted to the Swardman. Won’t be long before the front follow suit. I mean come on. Look at those stripes on KBG that is not all the way out of dormancy. Imagine that type of striping in August.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому

      Well the issue with it in august is watering, we have water restrictions and the front gets full sun all day so I don't think I can do it low in front

  • @jgomendo

    Do you see this becoming the girlfriend mower? Ryan Knorr just got one too. Looking forward to your opinion on it going forward.

    • @GrassDaddy
      @GrassDaddy  6 років тому +1

      I think it fills a niche in the market. some people have been buying commercial reel mowers for their home lawn so this is much more 'affordable' than a commercial one and it is lighter etc. But that being said it's price tag keeps out most people from buying, and with the limited max height it limits it further. So it's a cool mower but it's gonna be up to those who just have to have a short cut lawn to decide if it's worth the price.
