I remember when i saw them in "la campana national park" as they were playing the birds in the mountains were singing that was really insane and magic at the same time. Love to Los Jaivas. One of the best musical experiences of my life.

There are so many echoes in this connecting it to other musical threads: Debussy’s La Mer, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, anything by Frank Zappa, but I agree with you that Los Jaívas’ sound is uniquely their own.

Hay dos temas muy conocidos de los Jaivas que son "Lluvia se Estrellas" y "La Conquistada". Para ser justos, en materia de música no se puede comparar. Hay bandas que tienen estilos parecidos y otras se agrupan en diferentes fuerzas, texturas, intensidades, etc. Pero, Los Jaivas tienen una riqueza musical que no he visto en nadie. I’m afraid somehow the upload has sound on the left channel only, just the background music on your final thoughts comes on both channels.
This piece is inspired by traditional carnival dances that represent the battle between good and evil, and that’s why it’s so intense, emotional and contrasting, and why the end is so beautiful and peaceful: it represents the victory of good over bad, and a world in peace. Look up "Primera Diablada De Chile en La Tirana 2023” on YT for reference to the traditional dances.
The pianist is indeed classically trained.
Re: your comment about how they fit together so well (you mention bass and piano as example), there are five guys in this band, three siblings and their two best friends, they started toying with instruments since they were little kids. Also, once they decided to form a band, they spent three years playing 100% improvisation before composing anything more structured, and recording; these guys could practically read each other’s minds.
Also, once they formed a band they would not listen to any other contemporary music, to avoid getting influenced by them. It’s amazing how many parallels there are with English Prog. but they only had the same instruments (plus their folkloric instruments).
