The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) staged a protest at Congress Bhavan on Friday against the alleged "massive irregularities and paper leakage" in the NEET-UG 2024 examination and the cancellation of the UGC-NET exam 2024.
Speaking at the protest, Sandemo Y Ngullie, vice president of the National Students Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland, highlighted that the protest was in response to the paper leakage and subsequent exam cancellation. Ngullie cited media reports stating that four individuals had been arrested by Bihar police in connection with the scandal and urged the National Testing Agency (NTA) to acknowledge their shortcomings. He also called for stringent action against those responsible.
Meshenlo Kath, co-chairman of the NPCC public grievances department, questioned the integrity of the Modi government, accusing it of misleading the public. Kath noted the significant shortage of doctors across the country and criticised the government's handling of the NET-cum-entrance exam for medical students. He pointed out that it was unprecedented for 67 candidates to score a perfect 720 in NEET, which he deemed implausible. Kath referred to the NTA, established in 2017, as a "puppet of Modi."
Kath also addressed the paper leaks in the June 18, 2024, NET exam, which determines eligibility for assistant professorships, research fellowships, and PhD pursuits. He emphasized that the NPCC's protest was a demonstration of their dissatisfaction with the Indian government's handling of these examinations. Kath demanded the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on moral grounds.
During the protest, party workers held placards demanding justice, a ban on the NTA, and an end to jeopardizing students' futures. They also called for the resignation of the Education Minister.
