I'm so glad I found your video! Grew up in Paradise and used to come here all the time, but have lived in Portland for the last six years, and am feeling homesick lately. Haven't been able to make a trip back in awhile, and after the fire there's no family home to go back to, so it'll likely be a while before I can make a trip up to Bald Rock again. Definitely used to be my happy place. Would come here with friends a lot as a teenager and pretend we just lived there. I love how the granite is so course that it really grips the rubber of your shoes, so it's easy to keep your footing even on the steeper rocks! Easy to hop around like a mountain goat up there. I've never been in hiking shape in my life but Bald Rock lets me pretend I'm good at it :)
@@ratrodramblin Yes I know this. And many family members have lost everything they ever owned. But the Rock still stands and the spirits still move and will always remain as a steadfast to my community. It is still a beautiful place to hike as this young family. My sorrow goes out to everyone that has been effected by this disaster.
I believe this is a magma plug that never reached the surface. After cooling and hardening, the earth above it was worn away exposing the dome which cracked into pieces. After being exposed, it was then shaped by wind and water erosion. It sounded like you were using the names interchangeably but Big Bald Rock and Bald Rock Dome are different spots. It looks like you were at big bald rock which is fairly flat and not prominent. Bald rock dome is nearby and is a prominent dome that overlooks the Middle Fork Feather River Canyon and many people rock climb it. Curtain Falls is on the Middle Fork Feather and the trail to access it starts off of Bean Creek Rd and switchbacks down into the canyon and skirts around the bottom of Bald Rock Dome. I haven't hiked it but I believe there's chiseled steps or cables or something on the exposed rock section near the bottom. Lots of switchbacks. Something like 6 miles/2000ft elev.
This area is considered sacred to the maidu tribe so when you visit please be respectful ,also be aware of your surroundings rattlsnakes are in this area ,my daughter is a member of this tribe and lives litteraly two miles from this area lets keep it beautiful !

Nice video! Your daughter is very cute. I subscribed to your channel.
At 13:00 Lydia is on the turtle. The summit is right above that.
If you go to curtain falls its a hike in a half. Coming back up even as a avid hiker you will be challenged. Just a heads up.
Thanks for the heads up!
If you want the real spiritual experience hike bald rock on full summer moon.
@@loissteele8034 not going to be a spiritual experience hiking there this year and years to come. Whole town of Berry Creek's gone from the fire.
