I was beyond pissed as she climbed on the ride smiling because I couldn't go.
In defense of Vortex, I believe it was the very first stand up coaster so it wasn't going to be great but it really didn't age well and Patriot was rebranded and they tried to play it off as a brand new ride. I was pretty angry when I found that out.
@@empjustin6560 Except the Mass Effect ride isn't a water ride. It's a motion theater ride. Some giant centipede thing pops on screen in 3-D and spits some "acid" and the vents spray you with mist but it smells foul. Luckily it can only be smelled for a few brief seconds. Still nasty though.
michael veloz It’s funner then six flags and less crowded. Amazing top 3 as well. In order I would say 3.Flight deck 2.Railblazer(incredible) 1.Goldstriker(best ride in the park)
18:38 You should see it on opening day, half of everything was closed and on weekdays there are lots of rides closed or in rotating operations. In this tour there was sign near Woodstock Express that said there were rotating operations in effect. SFDK has good operations.
My visit to Discovery Kingdom on this trip was by far the worst operation day I have ever seen at any theme park. With the following rides closed all day or at some point: V2 Medusa Superman Joker Harley Quinn The entire Tava’s Jungleland section Penguin Ride Monsoon Falls White Water Safari Train Monkey Business Thrilla Gorilla Tasmanian Devil Skyscreamer Dare Devil Dive Iwerks Theater Top Spin
@@IntheLoopPodcast Harley Quinn has always been plagued with issues. I don't expect it to be open when I go. The train is barely open cause it's hard to get the gas and parts for it. They run it sometimes though. Taz has some parts issues, the main problem with hanging on to old rides that aren't Schwartzkof. The Top Spin (VooDoo) closed 2 years ago due to devastating damage to the ride's comp. The park has no plans to reopen it at this time.
The Berzerker attraction cars where part of the old Roller Coaster called the Whizzer which was built by Anton Schwarzkoph and was also at California Great America who also built the Tidal Wave.
Wow, I never knew the Berzerker cars were formerly the Whizzer cars. I was supervisor of the ride area that Berzerker was a part of back in 2002 or 2003. Been so long now I can hardly remember.
@@chrisandneke that’s really cool. Thanks for the information. I wish I had known that when I worked there. I would have told the older guests about it.
I used to go to this park all the time in the 80's growing up in the Bay Area. I remember getting stuck on the demon, at the end, the bar wouldn't release and pull up, so I was about to go on it again. I didn't want to in the first place. I do remember there was a place that you go into and you could get a big mug of root beer for a nickel and a hot dog for 10 cents. I'll have to go back one of these days
If you do go back don't expect a root beer and hot dog for .15 cents. The park is nice and completely different from the 80's. The Grizzly and Demon are still there though. The carousel, sky tower and basket ride over the park are probably all that's left of the 80's park. Other than the picnic grove area and the theaters. It's worth it in my opinion, especially if you go during Halloween Haunt.
7:27 Used to work there in 1989. It's sad what this place has turned into, I miss the times when they had themed areas like, Carousel Plaza, Orleans Place, Yankee Harbor, Fort Fun, Yukon Territory, Smurf Woods, County Fair, and Hometown Square, where everybody wore costumes that matched the area, in County Fair you'd wear argyle socks and suspenders, Yankee Harbor would wear a pirate hat and a flared white shirt, in Yukon Territory we wore a brown plaid shirt and brown pants, and everybody had to wear plain white shoes, and maybe you've heard this phrase before, well, I doubt it, that place has totally changed for the worse, for example, a water park? seriously? You know how cold that place gets, we'd have to wear our jackets in the middle of July, but we'd always say, "Have A Great Day!", that was said all over the park, in rides, foods, games, and how about that annoying music they'd play all the time, and would you believe, I actually kind of miss it, but I bet they don't do that anymore. I miss the train, I miss the trees, I miss the grass, I miss the old Great America. Just sad
The train was great and how could you forget The Edge? I worked at County Fair 4 back in early 2000's when the Invertigo was there. There wasn't much theming even that far back. I think all the real theming was gone by the mid 90's. I miss Yankee Clipper and Logger's Run. I loved how they would run head to head almost.
Where is Mass Effect theatre is was the original location for the Tidal wave roller coaster. When they removed it they built the theater and it was used for a Days of Thunder simulator attraction.
@@darklordojeda from what I remember they built the theatre on the same land were Tidal wave was located. The last time I was there was over 20 years ago and Days of Thunder was in a theatre what the seats moved to the motion of the movie ride in 1999.
In those sky gliders (red and blue) ride that goes over the park- I used to dump water out of them. Get a bottle of water. Then it would land on peoples heads as you go over them. You are so high up.
I thought this was a five-year plan in reinvesting in the park as well and putting a new hyper roller coaster in the Parkside thought they were not finish getting involved with that Park as well
I believe those plans have been scrapped as there was no expansion this year and rumor has the budget from the CGA hyper was given to the Kings Island hyper.
@@IntheLoopPodcast I think it's been pushed out to 2021, But IN THE LOOP, your wrong saying that the Hyper has been cancelled, and Kings Island is getting a B&M Giga, NOT A HYPER.
@@IntheLoopPodcast Nope, their 20 year plan was pushed back one year due to railblazers late opening. This is evident with the addition of south bay shores in 2020 and the inevitable addition of a hyper in 2021
@@ql5481 I agree with you 100%. It needs a tall, big and fast steel coaster. I believe the reason they haven't gone big is because of FAA restrictions due to the airport being so close.
So is Berserker, their the only two left in the USA, and BOTH Fun, can't forget about BERSERKER, their both the same exact ride, Schwarzkopf Bayern Curves.
is the park open early Jan? I tried checking their park hours but it only shows the current month (Nov) and the park ain't open in a whole lot of days :(
The park opens for the 2020 season on March 21st. There are rumors that it will eventually become a year round park... it gets a little closer to that every year.
This year it stayed open until the first week of January I believe. As another commenter said, it gets closer and closer to nearly year around. I think they'll keep it closed for most of January and February though. Too cold. March is generally when the park opens, late March.
I live in the East Bay and Great America is one of my home parks along with Six Flags in Vallejo. The park does need to get rid of some old rides. The Grizzly is old, slow, and boring as hell and totally needs to be replaced, particularly now but the park has Gold Striker, which is one of the best wooden coasters I've ever been on. It's a beast. They should put a nice steel coaster where the Grizzly is or convert it to an RMC hybrid. The Demon should be gotten rid of as well for similar reasons. The park thinks of it as a classic so it doesn't want to get rid of it but I say screw that. Also, The Vortex, now called The Patriot, is a MUCH better ride now that it's floorless instead of being stand up. I completely disagree with you when you say that the change of trains didn't help anything. It helped it a ton. It's a much more pleasant ride now than it used to be. They recently add an expansion to Boomerang Bay, which I haven't seen yet. I never usually go in there because whenever I go to the park I'm there for the rides and not for water park.
If they get rid of Grizzly and Demon that will give them a lot of space for a hyper coaster. It will leave a hole in my heart but as you said, Gold Striker blows The Grizzly away and railblazer is better than The Demon. The boomerang bay expansion kinda rubbed me the wrong way, they removed Loggers Run to accommodate for it and I don't do water parks. If I want water slides I'll go to Raging Waters. At least my kid likes the water park.

In defense of Vortex, I believe it was the very first stand up coaster so it wasn't going to be great but it really didn't age well and Patriot was rebranded and they tried to play it off as a brand new ride. I was pretty angry when I found that out.
I love that roller coaster! I would love to get a ride on it !!!🇺🇸😄👍
Will be going for the second time this Saturday.
Same this Saturday🤟😎🤟
I hated the mass effect ride cause of the water they sprayed in your face it smelt sooo bad
I agree You said just what I think,
You mean every water ride?
@@empjustin6560 Except the Mass Effect ride isn't a water ride. It's a motion theater ride. Some giant centipede thing pops on screen in 3-D and spits some "acid" and the vents spray you with mist but it smells foul. Luckily it can only be smelled for a few brief seconds. Still nasty though.
It went in my mouth once XD
I went to great America today
Sophia Liu is it fun
michael veloz It’s funner then six flags and less crowded. Amazing top 3 as well. In order I would say
3.Flight deck
2.Railblazer(incredible)
1.Goldstriker(best ride in the park)
18:38 You should see it on opening day, half of everything was closed and on weekdays there are lots of rides closed or in rotating operations. In this tour there was sign near Woodstock Express that said there were rotating operations in effect. SFDK has good operations.
Did that last line say “SFDK has good operations”
You implied that half the rides are closed all the time, which is incorrect.
My visit to Discovery Kingdom on this trip was by far the worst operation day I have ever seen at any theme park. With the following rides closed all day or at some point:
V2
Medusa
Superman
Joker
Harley Quinn
The entire Tava’s Jungleland section
Penguin Ride
Monsoon Falls
White Water Safari
Train
Monkey Business
Thrilla Gorilla
Tasmanian Devil
Skyscreamer
Dare Devil Dive
Iwerks Theater
Top Spin
@@IntheLoopPodcast Harley Quinn has always been plagued with issues. I don't expect it to be open when I go. The train is barely open cause it's hard to get the gas and parts for it. They run it sometimes though. Taz has some parts issues, the main problem with hanging on to old rides that aren't Schwartzkof. The Top Spin (VooDoo) closed 2 years ago due to devastating damage to the ride's comp. The park has no plans to reopen it at this time.
@@AmusementLabs Which is Why they should just scrap it, it likely isn't reopening ever again, instead of just letting it sit there and rust.
I love the old Top Gun ride. Really cool.
@@darklordojeda it sure was. If you look at the Whizzer video on you tube you will see what they look the very same just different paint job.
@@darklordojeda also the track should be from the Whizzer also.
@@chrisandneke that’s really cool. Thanks for the information. I wish I had known that when I worked there. I would have told the older guests about it.
@@darklordojeda you are very welcome! Did you hear that Sea World is looking to buy all cedar fair parks?
Molly for president!!!!
Awesome! Thanks! Was thinking about stopping here later this year.... worth it? I have a platinum pass, so it’s just the flight :)
Where you flying from/have you been to the park before?
In the Loop From NJ, Never been to any NoCal Amusement park, only SoCal
Wow I remember when they built Great America before Google and Yahoo moved in and changed Santa Clara. Haven't been there in decades.
7:27
Used to work there in 1989.
Just sad
I think it’s alright, it has great potential
The train was great and how could you forget The Edge? I worked at County Fair 4 back in early 2000's when the Invertigo was there. There wasn't much theming even that far back. I think all the real theming was gone by the mid 90's. I miss Yankee Clipper and Logger's Run. I loved how they would run head to head almost.
But back then y'all didn't have Railblazer and Gold Striker haha
I live right by great America it’s hella fun
Where is Mass Effect theatre is was the original location for the Tidal wave roller coaster. When they removed it they built the theater and it was used for a Days of Thunder simulator attraction.
they also had a spongebob on there when i was younger
Tidal Wave and FX Theater were both operating at the same time briefly weren't they? God it was so long ago.
@@kawaiikoalagamer5158 I liked the Spongebob and Days of Thunder. The new one is ok but nowhere near as good as the previous 2.
Now they have cameras so if you do that you're banned from the park and possibly sitting in a police car for a little bit.
You are a jerk. Now if you do it you'll have fun in a police car.
This is evident with the addition of south bay shores in 2020 and the inevitable addition of a hyper in 2021
@@NorCalCoasterMedia 2021 came and went, no hyper. I'm hoping by '23 we get something.
@darklordojeda No hyper in 2023 unfortunately, it is too late for that. New hope now is for 2024
Great America should make the grizzle into a RMC hybrid coaster
This is what I've been saying for like 2 years. I really hope it happens.
I think a hyper coaster is really what the park needs
@@ql5481 I agree with you 100%. It needs a tall, big and fast steel coaster. I believe the reason they haven't gone big is because of FAA restrictions due to the airport being so close.
anyone know if they let you wear waist packs on the rollercoasters like railblazer?
Great video as always 👍👍🎢🎢😊😊
They have a ride like Berserker at Kennywood. It was actually really fun!
So is Berserker, their the only two left in the USA, and BOTH Fun, can't forget about BERSERKER, their both the same exact ride, Schwarzkopf Bayern Curves.
It's a really fun simple ride. I especially like that the cars are flat during loading but bank when the ride is moving.
Well this aged well for Kennywood…..
I miss invertago
I was supervisor of that ride back in 2002 season. Met my wife and best friend working there. Fun times.
is the park open early Jan? I tried checking their park hours but it only shows the current month (Nov) and the park ain't open in a whole lot of days :(
Not sure on that one. I know they run the winterfest Christmas event in December
I want to great America yesterday and I went on the flight deck
Did he just say grizzly is a smooth ride
yes he did and it's true
@j - k Gold Striker is just so much faster. Grizzly is awesome. Try it at night in a light rain. Changes the whole dynamic of the ride.
I get the gold pass every year 😂
Bounty Hunter same lol
Bounty Hunter same😂
Same to an I live in Florida lol
Actually I get premium
Bounty Hunter same :3
Railblazer is hella fun
I got a question for you guys, what is you favorite Amusement/Theme Park? Or a top 10 list? We want to know!
About the same as Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois near Chicago and Milwaukee.
OMG I SAW MYSELF IN YOUR VIDEO!!!!
I’ve been on every ride at Great America it is the best place in the world I used to go every weekend in summer now were in quarantine
Dang me too, every weekend (actually almost every day) every ride I love this place
If grizzly got rmc, i would cry tears of joy
THE IRON GRIZZLY ;)
I love America is great
Legend I can’t wait tell you and molly see galaxy-edge. Great video as always
June 14th. Super excited
flight deck was TopGun. great America is yo be Paramount's Great America. most roller coasters where themes after a paramount movie.
On Halloween this thing is packed my cousin works here and then her super viser told her 30,000+ people came here on the 19 of October
I almost fainted on the first one lol
PLZ ANSWER! Is gold striker still down for maintenance? I’m going tmr and rlly want to go on it
You should be fine. Was only closed for a little bit on the day I was there
Thank you for responding!!!!
Ok phew. 😅
Btw: Great video! I loved how straight to the point it was
I love that ride sm
At least my kid likes the water park.
you should go to six flags mexico I honestly love it!
I want to get to Six Flags Mexico sometime soon
I’m about to have hella fun!!!!!!!!!
I’m so sad it’s not reopening this year
You sound like Kermit the Frog. I love it!
Hi how are you doing today ❤️
Honestly GA is a great park.
Gamman I agree sucks that I live in la because I only go to great America like once a year because I go up north to see family six flags magic mountain is bad and universal studios only has one good ride in my opinion is the Simpsons ride the rapid ride in great America reminds me of a ride in sea world great America San Francisco Las Vegas and New York are my favorite place and hopefully next year I’ll go to Tokyo my family has wanted to go there but my step wants to go to Hawaii or Mexico but we’ve been to those places so like 3-5 times and my little sister wants to go to Disney land but we’ve been like 2 times already my family in up north lives in Windsor and sometimes they’ll rather take us to San Francisco so I really only go to great America 1 time every two years I’m 13 I always tell my friends about great America but they don’t know what it is yesterday I was at the mall telling about great America and the I saw dgg the UA-camr and his brother Dub vlogs / dub I live in Glendale California so yeah great America is really far ☹️ I love the vibes up north very chill 😎 btw Glendale is a smaller city in Los Angeles if you ever come to la a recommend that you go to the Santa Monica pier and the Beverly center which is a big mall rodeo drive Burbank, Pasadena my home town unfortunately I moved when I was in first grade and they got a big mall in Arcadia the West field mall San Anita, Griffith Park, Glendale mall/ America/ were I saw ddg I know this long hopefully you read this all 👍👍👍
Psycho mouse was my first coaster.
i prefer going here rather than six flags magic mountain
Delirium the bestt
Ehhhh I’m to scared to ride again yeah
I love Delirium but every year it gets harder and harder for me to ride. I think I have vertigo and it messes me up bad. Sometimes I just take Dramamine and go on that one first and hope for the best.
cant believe all of this will be relocated or torn down
Tomorrow I’m going there so I:just watching this
Saying the employees are miserable: anyone who has ever had to get around the South Bay will understand why.
Making minimum wage and trying to afford anything here doesn't help.
@@darklordojeda Yep, no wonder so much of the Bay Area is understaffed. You can make more $ working remotely than actually having to go somewhere.
