- Heya! This is a practice project I've been working on while waiting for more lore to make another "main cast" animatic. It's not meant to be as good or as polished as the other animatics, I just wanted to get in a bit more animation practice in the meantime. I did have quite a bit of fun experimenting though, and working in an easier style let me try out some more ambitious transitions.

Quackity's Dream SMP Lore is pretty non-linear, and I wanted to show that in my Dream SMP Animatic. Actually, this is probably closer to an Animation at this point, but honestly I'm not a stickler for details. In this DSMP Animatic, we have some fun new characters, like Charlie Slimecicle, Foolish Gamers, and Purpled... Purpled! Thanks Quackity, for bringing in all these new people to draw. I draw so many things. Including buildings! Did you see the buildings of Las Nevadas? Wow, they sure are built. Speaking of Locations of the Dream SMP, getting to show El Rapids as "L Rapids" might be the peak of my artistic career. Wonderful.
Also woAH, this song is not in 4/4! That caused me to fumble my storyboards more than once! Fascinating. Maybe I should try somethin with a really funky time signature... 15/16 anyone?

Welcome back! For those that didn't read the description, this is an experimental project I made on a very tight deadline. It's not meant to be as polished or as well constructed, I mostly used it as a space to try out different techniques and such.

Card meanings:
Dream: Ace of Spades, Endings and misfortune
Techno: King of Spades, Selfish and ambitious
Tommy: Jack of Hearts, Good friend and young blond person (fits perfectly)
Wilbur: Jack of Diamonds, Unreliable and Dishonest
They fit perfectly

The Jack of Hearts card usually represents a young man who wants to form some sort of relationship (can be romantic or platonic). The man can appear to be immature, and a lot of the relationships he forms aren't long lasting.
*The Jack of Diamonds appears behind Wilbur.*
The Jack of Diamonds usually represents untrustworthy assistants or employees, or a very intelligent but untrustworthy man.
I believe that you can form a connection between the cards and the characters to understand why these specific cards fit Tommy and Wilbur.
I love the attention to symbolism and detail in Late August's animatics, since they are quite fun to learn about!
Tommy: A kind-hearted, brash person with a tendency to follow his views over others.
Wilbur: A villainous-heroic cross of a man, looking at the big picture and every little detail simultaneously.

Additionally, this is probably a stretch and/or completely unintentional, but the jacks remind me of the rules of Black Jack?? Like the point is to not go over 21 or you bust, and i think its funny how he wanted Tommy to join him (age 17) but not wilbur (age 24).

For anyone wondering about the meaning behind the cards assigned to each person.
Techno - King of spades:
King of Spades is a Crown authority of Wisdom and Mastery. They are born on the first day of the year, the top card in the deck. King of Spades represents the ultimate spiritual energy and wisdom. Through suffering and the hard road to wisdom, they make it to the final: Rulership.
Dream - ace of spades:
In it's most spiritual interpretation, the Ace of Spade personality takes the soul on a journey of sacrifice; not as punishment, but to forgo the need for adulation and acquire victory over the little self.
Tommy - Jack of hearts:
The Jack of hearts signifies an honest young man in love. He is attractive, nice and generous and would like to be kind to you. This card often announces a new intimate friendship.
Wilbur - Jack of diamonds:
Isolated, the Jack of Diamonds represents the Messenger. This card also symbolizes an unfaithful assistant or employee. The Jack of diamonds is a young man who comes and goes, and takes more than is allowed. This card is a sign that you will be dealing with an intelligent man, who is very untrustworthy.

Where is this info from? I tried to research the meanings after first watching this and couldn't find much at all
Where did you find these meanings? I found a site that had Wilbur's cards exact meaning and Tommy's card similar meaning, but Dream and Techno's cards were completely different.

I love how the chips are given to the ppl he could manipulate, and cards given to those he couldn't. So when he tricked both dream and techno, the chip was placed on top of their cards. So perfect.

What I like about Quackity's lore is that he was once good, and believed that peace could be achieved. But afterwards, after he was left, hurt, forgotten...

Villain is subjective because in a sense, yea, but I would call it more of him getting revenge on the people that hurt him and his dreams essentially. And especially the fact that he went after Dream and Techno mostly. And Sapnap, George and Karl were basically a collateral damage to his agenda with the dissolution of El Rapids. I haven’t watched Dream SMP in a while but I’m guessing that’s what it is at the moment. But Idk it’s up to y’all.

If you're gambling, and someone else gets that hand, the only way you can get anything out of it is if the dealer goes bust. If the dealer gets that hand, then you're screwed.
You move on to the next hand... and the dealer gets the ace again. But the king is nowhere to be found... and the other high cards are either in the deck, or you have already dealt.
Suddenly, being the dealer doesn't look so good.

I don't think we've realized the true power Quackity now holds. He has the Ace, the King, and the two Jacks of All Trades under his thumb.
Let's hope the syndicate or perhaps a nuke from a certain snowchester can rival them.

I mean the cards represent the people he can't control, and he doesn't have Tommy or Wilbur yet.
It’s sad to realise that the only people Quackity cares about now is George and Tommy. He’s become null to all past and current relationships, even though he cares about Las Nevadas he clearly only cares about the alliances of his citizens as he had to gaslight and manipulate them into joining. He even said that although he likes Tubbo he said he’s barely spoke to him and acts like they have no relationship when they were cabinet members together in manburg and started the butcher army together. He also avoids talking about Karl and Sapnap. With Tommy and George you still see some humanity in Quackity as Quackity wants the best for Tommy and wants his to stay away from Wilbur, he was really upset by Tommy’s death and asked foolish to go easy on him and give him what he wants as he’s going through a hard time right now. He also still cares about George as he rescued him from the red banquet and frequently asked him specifically if he was okay, he also defended George when Ranboo brought up the prank that went wrong on George’s house. It’s interesting that every one declined Quackity’s invitation to Las Nevada’s at first and then Quackity manipulated them into joining but he respected both Tommy and George’s decision to not join as he didn’t want to hurt them 🥺
I like the fact that he knew both tommy and george arent bad people, but even so, as a quackity apologist, that doesnt make him less of a bitch, though he can be pin point aggressive at times, he was more passive aggresive to other people that are not both george and tommy, him coping with manipulating due to him being a poor man who wanted some justice and finally peace snapped is sad for, i hope him and his dsmp fiances reunite soon :(

Although, i feel like he has an inkling of love for Charlie too because of the way their dynamic is, but i could be looking at it wrong.
I feel like that’s the last bit of humanization left in Quackity at the moment. Also, Dream and Technoblade are totally going to beat Quackity at his own game, sooner or later.
I've just realised that Quackity is a brilliant example of "You either die a hero, or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.". The reason being is that he used to be good, he used to want the best for L'Manburg, and he tried to help the people he could. Now, he's a manipulator, happy to harm people that stand in his way.
Can we talk about how Charlie is just smiling whilst being manhandled by quackity (1:45)

I like how when c!Quackity gives foolish the chip the background turns red, but c!Foolish doesn't. It shows that c!Foolish is good but c!Quackity manipulated him into making the wrong choices. Nice detail.

Rewatching this, I love how the chips represent the people he owns/controls. He's building his city from them. And also how the chip is thrown on top of the king and ace, once he has both Dream and Techno in the cell. The two greatest trumps, two greatest threats to his power, finally under his control.
And also how Wilbur and Tommy are wildcards!

Jack of hearts means a young man in love. (????) the card given to tommy.
Jack of diamonds means an untrustworthy person, the card given to wilbur.

Interesting interpretation: with Quackity’s pliers (is that was that tool is called?) and the blood coming from dreams mouth, it’s almost like it’s insinuated that for Quackity, getting Dream to talk is like pulling teeth

People have already done a bunch with the card symbolism and such, but I think it’s really cool that the chips represent people Quackity has already “won” over to Las Nevadas, while the cards are still people he is “playing”. The levels of interpretation you can do with this is amazing!
I love the visuals at the end with Techno being the king and Dream the ace. Especially since in blackjack, having the king and the ace together means you can't lose. Big Q is the most powerful person on the server ATM and I love it

I noticed that the people who were showed with playing cards were all people Quackity doesn’t really like too much and the chips seemed to represent people he liked/wanted on his side. Just thought I’d mention it :)

This is absolutely stunning and the symbolism is amazing. I love how at 2:33, even though no one knew at the time, Purpled isn't included (also because in the lore he didn't outright join Quackity like the others did), it seems like you just know that Purpled isn't loyal to Las Nevadas

Holy crap I think you're right, he does end all the animatics with Wilbur: the grave in Desolate, "I'm proud of you Tommy" in Resolve, and the revival in Shattered. I had never noticed that before.

Okay, I'm kinda a little, not at all salty over the fact that this "isn't as refined", because holy FUCK this is a god-damned masterpiece.
This made me realize how smart c!Quackity actually is. He calculates his every move and every possible outcome and plays his cards accordingly. He doesn't actively manipulate, he just makes sure that he is on people's minds, displaying himself as a place to run to when everything goes down in flames. Even though it might not be now, eventually all the cards will be his anyways because the house always wins. I also really like the returning red chip that he gives people. I think this video really describes all of that well, and even thought that might not have been the first intention, that is how I see it. I really really like this animatic, it's really well made. Good job :D
and yet, even in the height of his manipulation... he made one big mistake. the house always wins... in theory. you play long enough, you never change the stakes, the house takes you. unless, when that perfect hand comes along, you bet big, and then you take the house. and in that prison, he's just given them an unbeatable hand. an ace and a king.

King of Spades (Techno) the strongest person on the smp and the card symbolizing wisdom and mastery and is one of the higher cards in rank, which fits Techno since he is the best at PvP on the server and he is the most powerful on the smp
Ace of Spades (Dream) being the old big bad of the story and the card meaning death and bad luck
which we see as Dream has brought Tommy and others death and misfortune throughout the lore
Jack of Diamonds (Wilbur) someone who was brought back recently to the smp and we don’t know if we can trust
the card symbolizes an intelligent person who is untrustworthy
Jack of Hearts (Tommy) is one of the mc of the lore and we see that tommy goes through a bunch of emotions as the story progresses matching the card
this card has many meanings (usually for love) but when describing a person, they are usually emotional, dynamic and willful
which are some traits we see in tommy’s character

THIS IS SOOOOO GOOD, I love how you incorporated the cards with people like Dream, Techno, Tommy & Wilbur, and the las nevadas chips with other people. Also just in general your art style is amazing. Also the passing of the cup from quackity to Sam and the moving of the liquid inside was so good. Also what do you mean it wasn’t supposed to be as good as the other animations, like bruh this is fantastic. This experimentation Project was amazing.
I like all the small touches, like how the background turns purple when Quackity throws the chip to Purpled, and how Quackity places the three chips representing Slime, Purpled and Foolish on the top of the towers of chips which transition to Las Nevadas, showing how they're the finishing touches to his new country.
I think thats Fundy, Slimecicle and Foolish
But I don't think Purpled wears glasses, and even if he does the clothes are also grey and green stripes, not purple like Purpled's skin.

Quackity has always had one of my favorite stories, from being second fiddle to schlatt to his desperate attempts at power in the Butchers Army to finally clawing his way to strength in Las Nevadas, and finally now becoming a powerful force in the SMP. I love how you showed his progression trading favors and manipulating other SMP members to getting his long-lusted revengs on Techno.

I just went through and re-watched all youre DSMP animatics and holy sh!t. You capture the story of this series so so well. The symbolism, the designs, the subtle movements, the colors... its just absolutely stunning. I myself do art and you're a huge inspiration to me. I love how you show the story and you never fail to amaze me. I can't wait to see more work from you in the future ♡

I mean, yeah, compared to the other animations, this may seem unfinished, but in my opinion, the best one yet. I'm a big fan of transitions, and there's so many of those in this one and I just love it. Music is a banger too, designs are cool, everything's epic

It's not polished, which gives it that gritty and dreadful but also absolutely adrenaline pumping feel. The transitions are absolutely amazing, I cannot stress that enough. The art style is beautiful in it's own way, and you accomplished telling so much without saying a single word about what was happening. That in itself is pretty amazing. I can't explain how much happiness this animatic gives me, but I can say it's beautifully crafted. Props to you, for sure.
I love how when techno the king (which is usually the best card) visited dream the ace (in 21 can be 1 or 11 the weakest or strongest) it made a perfect 21 where quackity essentially won the 21 game. And is met with the red las Nevada’s chip meaning he betted on technos capture very good symbolism.

How does it come that this, despite being an experimental project, feels so perfect, from the clean art to the transitions, from the use of color to the music choice?
The way the animatic flows with the tact of the music and how it fits with lyrics is amazing;
They re-tell Quackity's new arc in a creative fashion with some of the lines fitting the narrative to a T - I, for example, love how "I'm genocide" references Foolish's past as a god of destruction, or how the "I know that you'll never feel like I do" describes Quackity's feelings in terms of both his friendship with George and the relationship with his fiances, since he believes that they do not care as much about him as he cares about them.
Also, the overall theme of "Blame/Put it on me": Quackity is causing trouble and enrages people with his actions, but he wants to be seen when he does it;
He makes sure that they see that he's the culprit, that they blame him because attention, making a name for yourself, is part of the plan, the gamble, the game.
In that sense, I also want to point out the symbolism of the assets of a Poker game.
It's very interesting how you make use of chips and cards - the chips signify a calling card that symbolizes power and control over those who receive it, that is also placed onto the cards that, in turn, stand in for the people Quackity needs to confine by force - the major other players, if you will.
Spades are pitch-black, sometimes connotated to hatred, and so they describe the people Quackity despises because they have power over him - Dream, the ruthless and powerful Ace of Spades, with a strong connection to death and war, and Technoblade, the dangerous and undying King of Spades, an enemy so well-versed in combat.
And then, there are also the two Jacks - Tommy and Wilbur, two people that Quackity doesn't actually hate, but that he'll take on if necessary.
Tommy is represented by the Jack of Hearts, a card that is tied to genuine care and love, kindness and youth.
And that's what Tommy, deep down, is: He is so full of love for the people he cares about that he'll never truly let them go, no matter what they might have done in the past.
And Wilbur... Quackity doesn't despise Wilbur, but he's unpredictable, a true Jack of Diamonds.
This card stands for intelligence, but it is also unfaithfulness and the hunger for more, for power;
And a card that seemingly appears to be harmless suddenly becomes a threat in Quackity's game.
(On another note, I can't help but wonder:
Would Quackity also be represented by a certain card, and if yes, which?
I actually think that, if you were to strip Quackity of the facade he puts up, the Jack of Clubs, might fit him rather well: An intelligent rival and entertainer, that is actually very loyal and caring.
But alas, corruption might have a too strong grasp on him already...)
Either way, you made me marvel and think.
And so I say:

I think that, for the key players he can't control, they're represented as wild cards, he can't place chips and bet for certain the outcome as a winner. But for those he has manipulated aka known he won the gamble, he can confidently place the chips and cash in on the prize.
Are we gonna talk about the fact that Quackity hasn't seen this?

The idea with coins is so creative and well executed, while also providing some guidance. The way you made George drop a coin to show Quackity being abandoned hurts like hell but is also really cool. Also, the transition between the stick thing being stuck in Quackity's chest to him pulling it out and turning it into a torch burning down El Rapids is such a smart way to show that this was caused by his grief and that he's weaponizing it for destruction
I literally just said “oh man that is so good, that is actually so good, how are people this talented, like, oh my gosh.”

Every time I watch one of your animatics I'm struck by your thoughtful use (or lack of) color and this is no exception. The use of Red to signal transitions of loyalty is just so incredibly cool. Keep up the amazing work, this might just be a drop in the bucket but you are hands down my favorite MCYT animator.
