Jr Pickett, I recently came across this video and want to let you know it was very helpful in fixing the issue I was having. My check engine light was on. (PO456) without this video I never would have found the location of this thing. So thank you.
Thx for the vid. Had p0441 code too. I also replaced gas cap. Remember to disconnect neg terminal on battery for 5 mins or so after replacing to get rid of chk engine light!!
Always make sure to disconnect your negative battery terminal before you start any work on your vehicle, especially work that involves electrical connectors. If you have an OBD2 reader You can use that to reset the code as well. Or you can just drive the car for a couple of drive cycles and let the car figure it out for itself 👍
I just changed mine on my 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.8L It is in the same place, as is the one in my 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.6L Very easy 15 minute change. Do not force anything. The plastic clips can be easily broken and then you have to buy a whole new van. Maybe new connections will do, but to make sure, I'd just buy a new van.
Thanks for the video. I would like to make one comment. I tried using a flat screwdriver to remove the side hose, but was not successful. Also, I was worried about damaging hose to the point where if this was not the leak point if would be now. Instead, I just grabbed the small S shaped hose and twisted the entire purge valve body around 360 degrees thereby easily breaking the hose set. Then I pulled the VALVE away from the hose, (Not the other way around), while firmly holding the S-hose. Much simpler imo. Thanks again for the video. I cleared my P0456 code on my 2012 Town and Country and we'll see if the error comes back. If so, off to the mechanic but it was worth a 28 dollar gamble to try to fix it myself before heading to the shop.
A MAGIC issue is that Pickett DID NOT take the connectors off in demo. It's important because one trying to RIP off the solenoid valve in attempting to take each connector off can damage the cabling, the locking mechanism or the part itself. It's CRUCIAL to show how each part is dismantled from the solenoid itself. Talking about it is only half the story.
@@zachis89 What is the average shoe size and would that be in ladies shoes or men's shoes? Does one need to take into account the width of said shoe? Also, will that be in standard measurements or metric?
Does a check engine light typically come on for a bad EVAP purge solenoid or can it occur without a code? My code reader is showing 60% for the EVAP with throttle open. I was of the understanding that the valve is either 100% open or closed?
Hope you get the message, what prompted you to change out the solenoid? Were you getting a check engine warning and an error code? I have been getting a recurring error code of P0441 and changing out the solenoid is listed as a possible solution.
Chris Lilly yeah we were getting check engine light, went to O'Reilly, had them check and clear the codes, googled the codes and went from there. Unfortunately I don't recall the error codes. Hope this helped!
Chris Lilly, did you ever find or fix the problem causing your P0441 code? I keep getting it also. The first thing I did was change this solenoid valve but the same code keeps coming back. Would appreciate any info you may have.
Was this affecting the engine performance? If so, what was it doing? Mine seems to misfire and it's saying it's something to do with the pressure in the fuel line. Trying to troubleshoot.
Thanks I just popped that part in really quick! Sadly I dropped the red clip. I’ve been looking for it on Napa website with no luck -any ideas on how I can search and get one?

Thanks for the input! Should've done that and will for sure in the future.
Thanks helped save me the time of locating it. At a small one man shop in Mississippi
This was perfect. Thank you sir!

You Sir, are awesome! Thanks so much, simple as can be. If I ever meet you, I'll buy you a beer.
Lloyd Cybart ha ha, glad it was helpful!
I will buy him a beer too. Thanks man
Awesome thanks!! Looks simple and i am encouraged to fix it my self.
Thank you for this video!!! Saved me time and money!! :)
I appreciate the video good job
thanks man

It's really not that hard if your iq is above the average shoe size

10-4, valid point but the video title is "locating the evap purge solenoid"

Yes, a check engine light then I checked the code and started digging. Sorry for the late response.
Thank you so much!! You just saved me some money!!!! Hate mechanics ...bunch of crooks!!
What a ridiculous thing to say, you haven't a clue how hard mechanics work for poverty pay to make sure people like you can drive safely down the road
@@bigjake352 he's right! Mechanics are F.N..CROOKS!!! THEY OVER CHARGE AND COMPLAIN ON EVERY GOD DAMN THING!!..LOL
Thanks!
Thanks sir by any chance when you van is running do you hear air leak sound near throttle body
No leak, just the engine through a code
Thank you for your vid!!
Which line goes to the fuel tank...? i would like to blow it with air hose because when i fill gas it keeps shutting the gas pump off..?
To be honest, I didn't research that far, just enough to replace the part
Good afternoon ! Something happened to your video ! Im not able to see it !! Can you up load it again ? Thank you.
Now Im able to see it ! Thank you.
Even when I pinch the blue clips on each side it doesn't come out. It seems like it's just stuck solid in there.
Hi, what will the code for this be?
What’s the reason you replaced it? Also what was the problem with the car that caused you to replace it?
Engine light came on so I checked the code and went from there. Sorry got the late response
@@jrpickett6392 no worries thank you very much for your time have a blessed day

@@joepeterson8704 I changed the gasoline cap first and the light came back. Now I'm going to change the purge valve.
Mine gave me a 0456 small leak error.
Will this work on a 2008
I have a routan 2011 we have the same engine and have p0456
Did you need to release that due to a small leak?
It was just a bad solenoid. I've recently replaced it again and ended up using my video since it had been a while. 😅
How did yiu know it was bad?..p0456 code?..
I believe that was the code when I had O'Reilly's checked the engine light code
Was this affecting the engine performance? If so, what was it doing? Mine seems to misfire and it's saying it's something to do with the pressure in the fuel line. Trying to troubleshoot.
If I remember correctly, it was a check engine light, went to O'Reilly's and had them give me the code and googled it from there. Hope it helps

Unfortunately no, I was lucky enough to hang on to mine. Google is your friend. Thanks for watching and good luck!
Did you had a code before you take it out
Had a cod? I'm not sure what you mean
@@jrpickett6392 He means an engine trouble light OBD code from the car's computer - like the "small leak" - 0426, for example.
What I want to know is how you bypass that piece of crap
Agreed!
