This Musical is very dear to me . I have an anxiety disorder which I i was diagnosed with at age four. But this musical has always helped me with my anxiety . My mom told me that if I was getting nervous in the car she would put in the tape of the original cast and i would fall in to a trance like state when the first notes hit with the organ lol And I am singer now and i sing professionally thanks to this show . Happy 30th anniversary Phantom you have helped me so much and many others with your beauty
Not only is the clarity of this bootleg just beautiful but my god it is sooooo refreshing to read the comments and not have the perpetual Christine comparisons seen on every single Phantom clip I’ve ever seen.
Was fortunate to get to see Judy Kaye as Carlotta when she returned to the role for a limited time during the original Los Angeles run of Phantom at the Ahmanson. I had no idea she would be performing the role until I opened my Performing Arts mag (SoCal version of Playbill) and saw a small section welcoming her to L.A.'s Phantom. I was overjoyed and she was as great as I had been told by those who had seen her on Broadway. I still remember that was in September 1992. I saw my first ever performance of Phantom that March with some of my classmates. We sat front row center and was totally blown away by it. I had no one to go with for my 2nd performance so went alone and sat 7th row orchestra. So long ago. I was in elementary school and had my older brother drive me from our nearby East L.A. home to downtown L.A. Theatre is always magical but it was extra special, like entering a whole new dimension, when I saw my first few performances as a kid.
So glad that there’s some footage of Kaye in this role. She’s the only one I’ve seen who actually managed to stand out and not get swallowed by the scenery. And no one has sung it as well. Wish they’d waited to record the musical when she was in it.
Oh wow, this exists too? God again what I would pay or give to see something like this...Crawford was such a major influence on my stage career so far. I’ll keep my fingers crossed again for someday something like this getting shared into the world
As you can tell from my profile picture, this show holds a very special place in my heart. It was my first real theatrical love, and you never forget your first true love! Thank you so much for posting this today Spiderwoman- you made my day!
At this point we need a decent recording of the original show with Michael Crawford. Redciiculous that he is the greatest Phantom and we cannot see him!!!!
Seems like the lyrics "What a change, you're really not a bit The gawkish girl that once you were" was used just in the recording, I was expecting to hear it here
I think they changed it sometime before it hit Broadway, since I’ve still heard the line like that in old audios of the West End production. Probably because “you’re really not a bit” can easily sound like “you’re really not a bitch.”
I own this bootleg but it does not look anything near your quality. You must have a first gen master. Care to share where you got this gem? Does it include the missing bits?

Judy Kaye's Carlotta has stood the test of time and it's still among the very best all these years and Carlottas later
She did win the Tony afterall.
@@sweeney60 and she was one of Hal Prince's favorite artists was better than the original, Rosemary Ashe
@@XPRT10RBetter than Ashe how, in your opinion? 🙂
@@ChrisStockslager better actress and role interpretation
Historic! To have been there on Broadway with that cast.

This copy is so clear and crisp, no ghosting at all. This is great!

Christopher Bush same with me!
For whatever kind of music and vocal style she’s gone into in her later years, Sarah Brightman was lovely here. 😍❤️ Sweet, diamond or bell like voice🎶
I agree, and whenever I see other Christines I miss her sound. After all, the role was written for her.
the original. QUEEN
Katie Hall has that light youthful voice like Sarah. Katie and John Owen-Jones should have been the 25th concert cast. Scumbag cameron mackintosh

Happy 30th Anniversary!
Ooooh...Could We have "Prima Donna" with Judy Kaye please? :D

Do you have the full show?
WHERE DO YOU FIND BOOTLEGS AT SUCH HIGH QUALITY
I am glad to hear you like the quality of this, considering it's from way back in '88.
Steve totally ruins this performance for me by switching octave during the “how young and innocent” line.
