Great video!! Been watching your different videos all day, my main question is what is that next device you previewed, I’m about to pull the trigger on the item in this video. What I really want is to be able to watch DIRECTV app but it doesn’t work on my magic box and was thinking I’d just take this route with a fire stick.
Thanks for watching. The device isn’t available yet. It won’t be sent to me until around middle of this month. So expect my review of it around mid to end of July. For more details go here www.indiegogo.com/projects/--2893772/ It’s pretty much the same tech but in a form factor that enables direct connectivity to the fire stick with a power loop to the stick. BUT you still have two cables to deal with that goes out one end of the adapter. So you still need to power the whole thing from a 12v adapter or powerful USB port as well as connect it to the CarPlay port in the car. I’ll be looking at this adapter again in this Friday’s video. So keep an eye out.
I bought two of these thinking the first one was faulty. I can't get it to connect. I have other devices including Carlinkit AI boxes that have connected to my car but this one recognizes it as "phone" and when I hit connect it tells me cannot connect make sure I have carplay on and my wifi and bluetooth on. I have them on and nothing. Any advice or am I missing a step in setup or is it just not compatible where all other boxes have been. I even had the Ottocast TV Mate HDMI that connects but only gives me 4x3 screen size so I don't like that one. Can you help. Thanks
You’ve mirrored my own experience. First arrival didn’t work. Second one did just fine. Ottocast TV Mate screen format wasn’t good as CarlinKit for certain HDMI sources. The CarlinKit is known to be less compatible than the Ottocast however I have been told they are looking to widen compatibility. I’m assuming that’s going to be via updates but seeing as it’s very hard to update I’d take that with a pinch of salt. Bottoms line is compatibility. I’d send it back and wait a few months and maybe try it again or if they or another bring out something similar (they usually do). Buying it again can mean it’s been updated at factory with better compatibility for vehicles like yours.
It needs to be wired CarPlay, so I doubt it will work with your BMW wireless setup unfortunately. The only option is a BMW supported AI Box, but I am not sure if there's any with HDMI IN and also if they will work with certain iDrive systems.
This video was very interesting and informative. I have an aftermarket infotainment system in my BMW 1 series which flicks between the BMW idrive system and a menu with Carplay and Android Auto by long pressing the Menu button. The head unit has 2 USB Ports going into the glove box, aswell as a Factory fitted USB Port in the center console. I have a Samsung so I use wireless Android Auto. Will this device work with my head unit?
0:40 "and it will only work on Carplay only systems" by this did you mean that the car needs to have carplay to work? It sort of aounds like you meant that your car cant support android auto but only carplay. Edit: I see that your car has android auto so i assume you meant that you need carplay for it to work.
Hello Anthony, First of all thank you for your great videos. I have a BMW i4 and it only has wireless Carplay, so no wired Carplay. I'm afraid this device won't work then. Is that right?
Watching your video it looks like my Apple car play will still work but you just leave the cable in or do you have to disconnect it then plug your phone in?
This takes over the CarPlay feed so no CarPlay whilst this is connected to the port. I’m not sure about wireless CarPlay I assume it will knock this out too because it has to display the hdmi feed so wireless connection wouldn’t work whilst this is displaying.
You’ll either need something like this or an ai box with HDMI in, which there are very few. If it doesn’t work on dodge then you could try the Ottocast but it’s likely going to act the same as the CarlinKit. I’ve yet to compare both in a vehicle that doesn’t support the other.
Noticed that it was responding to your touch when you were doing the sync test. Can you confirm if it touch works on youtube? Using chromecast as well maybe?
No that was just a coincidence 😂 I must have touched the phone screen and it looked like it had touch passthrough. Neither of these hdmi adapters can do touch passthrough. It would great if they did though 😞
It’s a lot of cables, unless you buy short run power cables to the hdmi streamers to give them power. Their upcoming fire stick adapter looks ok but you still have two wires to connect at one end of it 🤷🏻♂️. Thanks for watching
Has anyone had issues with this device? I bought one because of this video but it’s like it’s not being recognized as a phone with gmc sierra 2023 13.2”
It does seem compatibility is an issue with this adapter. If it doesn’t work out the box I would suggest you return it before your return window closes. I doubt they can make it work as well as their other adapters. Or wait until compatibility improves or a new model is released.
@@CarPlayLife have you had experience testing something else on a vehicle that this particular product wasn’t compatible with? I’ve love to buy something else just don’t want to keep guessing. Thank you!
Sorry I haven’t had the opportunity to try this scenario. I couldn’t get it to work in a 2024 VW ID.3 but I didn’t have the Ottocast on me to try that instead. There’s not many other alternatives around.
@@CarPlayLife I think it would make for a great video since compatibility it such a big issue with these but idk. I returned mine hoping to find an alternative. There’s a way I know will work but it’s a complicated install and will cost 750
They are near identical in their performance, but they do have slightly different features. Having tested both with an HDMI to USB-C connection to a phone, I'd say the CarlinKit handles things better. I'll have a video on this out very soon.

Does this work in iDrive8 that only has wirelss carplay support. If not what ways could i add hdmi in to an iDrive8 screen. Thanks

It’s a long shot but as long as it does wired CarPlay then it’s possible. Buy from Amazon for easy returns if it doesn’t work for you.
I’m in a very similar situation, curious if you pulled the trigger and if it worked out for you?
That would make Samsung Dex super useful. but I see touch doesn’t work through pass through 😢
Nope, sadly no passthrough 😞
If it only had touch support via usb c passtrough. It would be perfect
Yes :( Next time maybe :)

Yes it only works via the CarPlay platform. It wouldn’t work if the car doesn’t have this or only has Android auto.
Hope this helps.
@@CarPlayLife Thank you for clarifying!
Can i use this carlink adapter in my Bmw?
If it does wired CarPlay it’s possible
Anyone having issues with the sound being distorting. Tried to change the firestick sound options with no luck. Please help

That’s correct. You need a wired CarPlay port for this to work. None of the usb ports in the i4 offer wired CarPlay?

My dodge has CarPlay but I’ve read reviews that it does not work on dodge? Any advice how to use my dodge screen as a 2nd monitor for my laptop

Samsung Dex work?
So if my 2024 Kia has CarPlay and android auto this won’t work ?
It will work because your KIA has CarPlay. It uses this platform to display the hdmi feed
@@CarPlayLifeit should but when I plug it in it says reading usb then just goes back to car Home Screen😩
@@CarPlayLife tried it several times and does not work says reading usb then converts back to car screen

Hey Anthony, Can you use a usb-c to hdmi from your phone to this adapter?
That’s a good question. I’ll have to try and report back…
It works 🙌🏻. I’ve done a video on it and I’ll release it next week.
Thank You!
Your answer :) ua-cam.com/video/MYspESTGdqc/v-deo.html
Will I lose wireless Apple car play
I think so yes, wired will always be primary over wireless if you have both.
So according to both videos ottocast hdmi adapter is better?
They are near identical in their performance, but they do have slightly different features. Having tested both with an HDMI to USB-C connection to a phone, I'd say the CarlinKit handles things better. I'll have a video on this out very soon.
@CarPlayLife wow your videos are really good bro. Waiting for your new video with mobile connection.
Cool, next Friday if nothing else gets in the way of it :)
