    Love your design I expanded on it. Heavy duty polymer tool box, perminent magnet 800w motor, same that windmills uses, weld about a 14lbs fly wheel to the end of the motor (you'll hand spin this to start it) connect to a plexiglass box. Inside plexiglass box make a 1:642 gear train. Fill plexiglass box with gear oil for reducted friction, on the end attach a 4 ft long crank so you can get your entire body into rotation. With the brushless perminent magnet motor it doesn't matter which way you turn the generator and you'll get insane amperage and watts with your 1:642 gear ratio, just make sure you hand spin the fly wheel first. An object in motion wants to remain in motion.

    Great build. I'm really interested in doing one of these. A few quick and very minor suggestions: If you attach the capacitors to the lid instead of inside the box you can work on components inside without disassembling them. Also, hot gluing a few extra fuses inside the box will be a big plus if one of them ever blows.

    run a wood hole saw backwards if you want an easy way of cutting nice clean holes in plastic. spade bits don't work too well. running it backwards keeps it from grabbing and gives a smoother finish.
    Very cool project. I'd like to build something like this into my 4x4. Weak battery, just do a little cranking and you can get it started to get home. don't really need it. already have a small solar panel mounted that keeps a float/slow charge on it, but hey it may happen at night!

    Just found your videos and channel. Quick question; have you thought about using an ammo box as your container? They’re stackable, waterproof, come with their own handle, and they provide a little more accessibility for fuse changing or other minor repairs. Maybe even space for a larger and removable crank handle?

    Hey, Lasersaber I used a FW bridge rectifier on my crank generator so it makes no difference which way you turn the handle. MY generator is not as big as yours but good for charging phones and running LED lights. BTW: Like your channel.

    • @NuclearRobotHamster
      @NuclearRobotHamster 5 років тому

      In theory it should also charge faster as the single Diode will block half of the power cycle(??) of the handcrank, while a bridge rectifier will allow both halves of the power cycle to charge the capacitor Bank.

    • @NuclearRobotHamster
      @NuclearRobotHamster 5 років тому

      @MultiDavid997 so there is already a bridge rectifier or similar inside the hand crank generator.

    • @NuclearRobotHamster

      @MultiDavid997 most bare rotary generators will produce AC unless there is extra circuitry to prevent it from doing so.

    Thanks for posting this by the way..... although I would reconsider I'm putting the super capacitors in a box like that. I only say that because if you use a 5 gallon bucket it allows you to put more capacitance in there along with other components that you can open at any time as it also has a Rubber seal and a built-in handle for way less money.

  • @axiomV

    Made this project almost two years ago, didn't use a bridge rectifier to minimize losses from motor to the capacitor bank . I didn't put the supercaps lasersaber used in his videos (EATON 400F 2.7V) and had the geared DC motor used in his first video, but i can surely say that as a project it has potential. Yes batteries store way more energy but you can charge this in far less time than a battery and you dont have to worry about battery lifespan or charge cycles and weather conditions, it's also way lighter than a car battery (so portability is a plus too).

    thanks for posting. nice work. here are some late thoughts. imo, at 7:25, you were well on the way to cooking that diode with the soldering iron. thanks for the info about the small hand-crank generators. i am guessing nominal output would be about 18 watts. in lieu of replacing the pm motor, another stage of step-up gearing could be added, to 'speed things up'. you may know, in an application where a high-speed pma is desirable, the stator coils can be connected delta. then, output rises Amps over volts. lenz force drag at lower speeds is initially less, then gradually climbs with rotation rate; output power (watts) is roughly equal to stator coils connected wye/star. cheers
    in case you or your subs might be interested, here is a link to a video in which, just maybe, overunity is achieved, on a table top.
    the video appears to show an Energy Gain of 60-plus percent; where input power is about one watt and output power is about 1.6 Watts. this percentage corresponds to the Amount of Mechanical Advantage the drive motor has Over the load (generating coils), located Nearer to the center of rotation. if is is true, it is proof of my separate research, conducted in 2016. the idea is simply to use Leverage and modern power generating hardware, to Easily achieve overunity. (see the law of the lever; the wheel-and-axle, which is a Rotary, 2nd-class Lever.) see my channel for more info, if it suits. cheers

    There has to be some heat generated by those capacitors. How do they dissipate any heat? Also, you have so many wires soldered together on the Cap Block why not use a wiring terminal strip? Interesting project. One I would take camping and use the solar charge feature to keep it going as well as cranking.

    Don't know if someone has pointed this out yet. At 6:21, you place your adhesive tape over the pressure release vents of the capacitors. This could affect the proper function of those vents if the capacitors need to safely vent off pressure due to the failure of the capacitor. Instead of a slight pop and a hiss. It could now become a KABOOM! Other than that, I'm planning on building one of these to use as a jump pack.

  • @ScinnerNo1
    @ScinnerNo1 4 роки тому +2

    Answering my own question :)
    From what I have found out a hand cranked generator delivers approximately 10-20W. If we say it delivers 20W and your cap´s hold 0.34Wh x 12 the cap bank holds 4Wh. To fully charge them with a 20W hand crank it would take 4/20 = 0.2h in other words 12 minutes, and thats at best. If you want to charge your iPhone X from empty to full (10Wh) you would be cranking for 30-60 minutes ;) Wow, thats quiet a workout guys. Carpal tunnel syndrome here I come!

    What´s the output of the crank? For how long do you need to crank to fully charge the cap´s from empty?

    how hard would it be to make a bigger one a those & hook it up to a solar panel on the roof of a hybrid car & either run the car off that for a distance or use it to keepthe traction battery at full charge for a distance?

    A brace and bit would've got those holes drilled in a similar manner, but with fewer intervening stages :) The boost box could be a life saver in snowy conditions though. They come into their own for starting gasoline engines when it's so cold that even a good condition battery struggles. I've seen videos where people have permanently replaced their battery with these supercap banks. Nice job.

    have a question about all your capacitor boot packs and replacing the battery... why not use a car audio capacitor? there already self contained and I have found them up to 10f@12v.. which I know your capacitor are 300+f but there only 2.5v which is why you make your packs.. but then you wire them up don't they loose capacitance but gain voltage? anyways what I'm trying to get at is have you tried car audio capacitors and do they work?

    could you use a cordless drill to crank the generator instead of the crank? or would it run too fast?

    Hello Lasersaber, please answer this question: How long do you have to crank your capacitor bank for a second try after a car fails to start after caps intially run down? That question was posted under a YT video titled "Using capacitors instead of a car battery for 3 years and counting!" by Catrinsin. Thanks
