For 1 year they didn’t upgrade their software, while people had paid upgrade passes. They only upgraded Photo AI, making people believe this will be the company’s future. Now all of a sudden they release GP 7, when all upgrade passes are at an end. Bad move, really.
Brian you have provided an excellent tour of GigaPixel 7. I just upgraded my GigaPixel, and now I know how to use it based on this awesome tutorial. Thanks Brian!!!
Very well explained. I have 3 or 4 drone shots that I forgot to change the default settings from 12mp to 48mp. Now I'm stuck with a low resolution image, but this video is telling me that I still have hope to be able to print these images in 80 inches long. I will try this tomorrow and after that we'll see if they are worth printing in that mega size. For now...Thank you!
Hi again Brian, I have a 61 megapixel camera that produces wonderful files. What AI has appeared to have accomplished, is the ability for much less expensive cameras, to produce files that can be upsized with amazing results. What therefor, is the need to go beyond a 24 megapixel sensor in the hardware department when these results are now possible. As an aside, will G7 batch process? If not, that would be a significant step forward for those that want to produce great files for much less. As always, thanks for the excellent content. You have become one of the best online sources of info out there. Thanks so much!
Thank you very much. There is - as we all well know - SOOOOO much to know about the various vagaries and arcane mysteries of Photoshop, Lightroom and all things pertinent to them such as Gigapixel. That, the more I learn, the more I know I don't know but, thanks to guys (and even an occasional gal! sms) out there, who take the time to help us understand - it makes life much easier. Keep up your good work because? We inquiring minds want to know - and whatever you are doing? It's working. Take care.
Thank you for a very informative video. I do use the latest Gigapixel 7 that I think does a great job of upscaling low res images overall. The only issue that I have found is that it creates shadow contour lines around the area where the colour changes are drastic. In your own example of the iceberg image you will see it around the woolly hat and also at the top of the blue coat.
I have Gigapixel AI 6.2 version which has some of the same control options, but not the new AI models like High Fidelity and Low Resolution. Wondering if it is worth it for the upgrade. Probably depends on how much I use it and for what types of projects. Gigapixel 7 new ads started popping up again, now showing also a "Realistic" and "Creative" (enhanced style) option buttons as well, which is anl update 7.4 with some new AI, from your video from 7 months ago which might have been 7.0 original version.
Hi Brian, great tutorial. I've got the latest version of gigapixel but can't seem to find the info on the image as seen on yours in the top right corner. Thanks
I truly enjoy tutorial on giga pixel. Can you do one with artwork pleaser. I want to buy it-but I meanly do digital Artworks. Also what would be better for upscale 1. Photo Ai or 2.gigs pixel for digital Artwork? Thanks in advance:) 👍🏽
As always, Brian, you have done an excellent job in your tutorial, but I may need to wait to try it out. I upgraded to PhotoAI (2.3.0) so I wouldn't have to upgrade Sharpen, DeNoise, and Gigapixel separately -- not to mention the convenience of using all of these tools in one application. I now fear the latest Gigapixel version is a separate purchase. I have a question open with Topaz Labs support on that.
I use ON1. As you know they also have a very good upscaling option. Have you compared GP with the ON1 offering and is there a significant difference? Again, love your content. Thank you.
I got the full photography suite of 4 apps last November so was entitled to this upgrade. Nice app, more control to enlarge/upscale without any sharpening... Cool. It has crashed a few times on windows 11. 🧐
@@brianmatiash I got the pop up when I opened Gigapixel and clicked on renew, a checkout appeared in my browser and it was $99. I was logged in on my app. I'll stick with my old version!

Great Video! I have a question. Is the Denoise and Sharpening in GIGAPIXEL ai as good as the stand-alone Topaz Denoise and sharpening? I usually will use Gigapixel then take the file over to both denoise and sharpening for their specific process.
Great tutorial Brian! Thank you so sharing the info. Question though. You mentioned Lightroom does not have 3rd party integration so Gigapixel can't open up in Lightroom. I have LR Classic and I'm able to open any Topaz software from within. Maybe I misunderstood. Thanks!
Thanks, Patricia! That’s correct. Lightroom (the Cloud version that I use and teach on Desktop and Mobile) does not have 3rd party app support aside from Photoshop (at least at the time of recording this video). LR Classic has robust 3rd party app support, so you can send your photos to Topaz Labs directly from it. I don’t teach Classic, though, which is why I provided that disclaimer.
I own every topaz product- love them all - Photo ai seems sufficient to replace legacy denoise/sharpen/giga- sorry they have discontinued support on some older more 'creative' products especially Impression 2
Brian, good video. I will be upgrading to the latest version of Gigapixel. But I have to mention when I export a RAW file from LR to PS, It opens as a RAW (NEF) file in Photoshop.
Thanks, Brian, excellent demonstration and informative. Can you please comment on the ART/CG model I have copies of Paintings and would like to upscale them, thank you
Hi Brian, I'm looking for a tool to recover photos from old phones or maybe some that are a bit blurry, is it advisable to purchase GP7 for this or the tech is just not there yet?
Thank you very much for your review. Personally, I think the processed image with Face Recovery looks horrible , but I get some people prefer that artificial doll look. For me the original file looks much better so I will test with High Fidelity 2 and see if it matches the Photoshop superesolution. I am not interested in inventing data with IA. I want upscale respecting the original image fidelity. It is good you have the choice to disable the Face recovery alltogether.
Maybe doing something wrong with settings but have just updated and wasn't impressed, much slower to preview image processing and results looked very Ai and not as realistic and not as good as the results I was getting with 6.3 version.
Hi Brian thanks for this video! I am a newbie for the past few months and just updated to Gigapixel 7 version but say for instance I used the "very compressed" option and would save art/photo to my apple Mac downloads, it would usually be at 300 dpi but now it stays at 72dpi and when I change it manually to 300 and zoom in its really pixelated still but the version before this did not happen, trying to figure out what I am doing wrong on this new version as it is a bit different. Should mention its for digital art/ai art to then print. Thanks!
So, you can't use plugins with Lightroom? Maybe you can't - but other people have been able to do that for years. You can right click the image, choose edit with Topaz Gigapixel. For lots of other plugins you can export images directly as raw data to the plugin.
Lightroom does not support 3rd party plugins aside from Photoshop. You are referring to Lightroom Classic, which is not what I use in this video. I know that Lightroom Classic supports 3rd party plugins, but I use-and teach-Lightroom.
Brian - Two things: 1) I normally use GP to downscale so as to get under my 25MB email restriction. I didn't see any scale but whole numbers. Are things like 0.80 still available? 2) Is this a free update to Gigapixel owners or are they charging for it?
What for? Simply reduce the JPG compression slightly and you will have much smaller files without sacrificing size. From 12 to 11 is already an enormous reduction in file size without any compression artifacts.
@@brianmatiash I always save on 12. I only use Gigapixel so I can email the over 25MB files My question was can I still use the program to make a smaller version to email? When I edit photos I want the highest quality only.
I don't know if GP is still needed, there are so many AI-based apps that do the same job at least as well or better. I think Photo AI is enough. Thanks
Is Photo AI good for sharpening? Or do you think Sharpen AI would be better? I have a lot of old photos I want to sharpen but I couldn’t get a straight answer from Topaz lol
@@pafredricks I don't have TP Scharpen AI so I can't make a comparison with Photo AI, but the "advantage" of Photo AI is that it also has the possibility of removing noise, improving faces and allowing you to mask the regions you want to improve. Even so, I find a program very expensive for what it offers and I use it for things that are not so critical and that have to be done quickly. Depending on what you want to do, it would be better to try the trial version first and see if it solves your problem. On the other hand, there are several videos on UA-cam that make precisely that comparison and can be a guide. In the end it is better to try with your own material
Great tutorial as always, thanks. Perhaps I misunderstood, but I am able to go directly from Lightroom Classic (Mac current 13.1 Release) directly to Gigapixel AI (ver 7 now). I simply right click on an image in the filmstrip - either in Develop or Library, scroll to 'Edit In' and all my Topaz plugins & others show up there. It will take me directly to Gigapixel AI, then return me to LR. Great channel, extremely helpful.
Yup, you can still send a photo directly from Lightroom Classic to Gigapixel 7. I was referring to Lightroom, which is the version of the app that I use to manage my photos.
Brian, will they integrate the models into PhotoAI or keep them independent? I enjoy my workflow, and currently, my only software outside of Adobe is Photo AI. I've uninstalled Luminar, On1, and even Topaz-everything except PhotoAI. I used to purchase every photo app on the market, but Adobe does it all and does it better, except for noise reduction, sharpening, and upsizing. I'm confident that Adobe will catch up in these areas soon.
Hard to say re: whether Topaz will add those GP models into TPAI. On one hand, it’d probably cannibalize GP sales by doing so, but if upscaling is the only thing you really need, then it is half the price of TPAI (when looking at MSRP, not promo pricing). I’m also with you - I prefer keeping my edits as much within LR as possible, but you can’t deny the benefits that 3rd party apps, like GP, have for specific use cases such as upscaling.
I still would like Adobe to cover it all in-house. I remember exporting files for panorama and HDR, and now it is seamless inside of Lightroom (LR). Not only is it an easier workflow, but also a superior result.@@brianmatiash
