    Hey buddy! What are the basic kicking combos according to you to close the range, which can be used in MMA

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  6 років тому +3

      A safe kick to close range would be a side kick as it can push your opponent back if they are coming in and you stay sideways and for the most part out of range of a punch coming at you. :)

  • @panpiper
    @panpiper 7 років тому

    Question... I just finished watching a knockout compilation from Taekwondo fights, and in every last one of them, both fighters had their hands down at their sides pretty much the whole time. You train with slightly more guard than that, but frankly not much more. Back when I trained hard style, I was mostly invested in kicking, especially close range high kicks. I trained and sparred with a modified peek-a-boo guard, all the time. It is absolutely doable while still being able to kick effectively. Why don't most kickers have a better guard?

    • @locogiomotocroz4031
      @locogiomotocroz4031 7 років тому

      Peter Cohen, maybe most kickers use the advantage of the long range of attack, in order words they are sure that they can hit their opponents with their legs before getting punched, I don't practice TKD but when I practice with my friend, I keep my guard a little bit down when I'm using a lot of kicks

    • @panpiper
      @panpiper 7 років тому

      +Loco Gio Motocroz
      Well yes, they most certainly are relying on their kicking range, but by no means does that mean they won't get punched, or kicked for that matter. Arms may not stop the full force of a kick, but they can stop enough of it to turn what might otherwise be a knockout kick into just another blow. In my opinion, there is no excuse for dangling arms. It is lazy training.

    • @jacobarrowood3587
      @jacobarrowood3587 7 років тому

      Peter Cohen Because WTF sparring is a stupid sport of foot fencing

    • @AlexWongTKD
      @AlexWongTKD  7 років тому +3

      In WTF TKD they typically keep their hands down for 2 reasons. 1. Entice their opponent to attack so they can counter. 2. Because we usually move and avoid shots and instead of blocking. During training I do tend to keep a more "relaxed guard". But for sparring and competition I tend to keep a little higher guard. I definitely would never keep both hands straight down because there's always a chance of getting caught!
