Your 3.9g hard rubber balls will give more impact on the subject (human) when shot because they do provide you more kinetic energy and energy density. The 3g nylon is only good on things like soup cans, pop cans, glass, and some hard targets for penetration, but they do not give as much impact on the subject (pain) as the 3.9g ball. The rubber does not penetrate as good as the nylon but they deliver the energy more. I have did zillions of test on these things and you are missing the most fun ammo - BREAKER BALLS. These things can surely be the best ammo for you if you are using the right gun. For your pleasure, search up Breaker ball MB68P and see my videos! I also have nylon, PVC, hard rubber and tons of other balls that I have tested. The yellow reball you tested is not 'medium rubber", it's made of some material that is very bouncy and because of that, the hardness is not even a factor, it's the bounciness that reduce all the impact when hit, therefore it is a safe to use round for indoor paintball games. Those are meant for the least impact energy deliver on the subject to make it 'safe" for games.
