Thank you, thank you, thank you for this sooo much!! I am currently enrolled in a medical billing and coding program and was so confused on how they were teaching me E/M codes. They were making it way more complicated than it needed to be. They gave us about 10 pages to fill out before we could code each visit. I was getting frustrated with it. You explained it perfectly and now I get it! Thank you for teaching us 💗

I just have to tell you how big of a godsend your channel has been to me and my classmate! We are in our last semester for our Health Information Management associate's degrees. This semester is completely online and while we have had two semesters of in-classroom lessons on ICD-10-CM and PCS, we have not had any prior teaching on how to assign CPT codes. This semester has just begun and we have an online CPT course with a somewhat advanced coding textbook for the course. Not having been introduced to CPT prior, we decided to go online today and look up some intro to CPT videos. Yours was the first channel we chose to check out and we are so thankful we did! You do an excellent job explaining CPT and we are much less intimidated now. We will be subscribing to your channel, and we look forward to learning more from you. :) Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos!

So my issue for E/M codes is that I get a practice test question that says patient had comprehensive exam detailed history, and moderate decision making (for example) .Some times this matches multiple answers, hoW do I pick the right one when it can go with anything?
I am a very beginner and I would LOVE a video that just talked about what a typical day is like as a medical coder. Is there very much human interaction, typical salary hours, job prospects etc
Working on that for my other channel, MedicalCoderLife, now. I try to devote this channel, CodeMasterCoach, to teaching coding. But, excellent idea and I will definitely do that.

I study coding now and I’m really having problem understanding the E/M part and how to get the MDM. Also I don’t understand what happens if we don’t get 3/3 for new patient?
Or if we get 3 answers in 3 different spots ….
Fore example : detailed history, problem focused exam and high mdm? I’m very confused by this

Answer every question, even if you have to just fill in an answer because you fun out of time and use your code book for the medical terminology portion if you don't know the term. Also, pace yourself. The 5 hours will go by so fast. If you don't know the answer, skip and return later.

Please help, Trying to level the H.E.M using a e/m worksheet; 1st you have the History ( HPI, ROS, PFSH); say you have a level 2 HPI, Level 3 for ROS and Level 4 PFSH, now to get the History Type, do you use the 3 of 3 for a new PT and 2 of 3 for established PT.? With the examination is it just depending on body systems ? And with the MDM, is the rule also the 3 of 3 for new and 2 of 3 for established or is the MDM always 2 out of 3 components ? Thank you very much in advance.
MultiGreenfields, the History is determined by what content is included. Does the history include Past, Family, and Social History? You are correct, the examination depends on the body system involved. The MDM is based on the criteria, amount of data to be viewed, # of diagnosis, and risk of mortality/morbidity. I do have a video on my channel about each.
Would it be against AAPC rules to write this chart in the notes section of my codebook? Super helpful tool!

The key is "NEW", so you need 3/3. It would be the lowest level, straight-forward. What setting?

Good question. The sites that you test at handle books differently. When I went, they shook my books and looked inside to see if I had papers attached. So, I recommend writing on pages that have space rather than attaching anything. The guidelines state no attaching documents but you can have writing.

As for a job in the US in coding, it is my understanding that the issue with coding outside of the US is that the software companies for coding don't have license to operate outside of the US. More and more companies are expanding outside but until they do, coding cannot be done for the US from other countries.

That video was a couple years ago. I recommend my students create theirs. You can do it too. Just list the appropriate codes for each section. I will do a video explaining how to create one.
